EXCERPT William J. Bratton, former NYC police commissioner under Mayor Giuliani endorsed Gov Spitzer's plan to license illegals. Chief Bratton was NYC police commissioner from 1994-96, during the first term of Mayor Giuliani, but the two men famously feuded, with Giuliani resentful that Mr. Bratton — a pioneer of the city’s Compstat program — was getting credit for the city’s reduction in crime.
In March 2007, Giuliani began trying to mend fences with Bratton and met privately; afterward, Mr. Bratton said he “enjoyed” the tête-à-tête.
In May 2007, the two men met in Los Angeles.
In a statement released by Spitzer’s office, Chief Bratton said: As former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department and now Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (since 2002), I support efforts that have the potential to solve crimes and improve traffic safety. That’s why I backed legislation in California that would give undocumented immigrants the ability to get a driver’s license once they have provided proof of their identification. It is my belief that by doing that you would reduce the number of hit and runs and increase the number of insured motorists on the road. We would also now have undocumented immigrants’ identifying information on record such as photographs and addresses which could prove helpful in the fight against crime and terrorism.

Particularlty when 80% of Americans oppose illegals licensing. Any response Giuliani makes now will be focus-groouped to the nth degree.
Mayor Giuliani moved hell and high water to make NYC "sanctuary city" for illegals.....even suing to the USSC to keep the government from sharing info w/ the then-INS.
The INS, Giuliani claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to “terrorize people.” Though he lost in court, he remained defiant to the end.
On September 5, 2001, Giuliani's handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential "to preserve trust between immigrants and government."
Six days later, on 9/11, several visa-overstayers participated in the most devastating attack on the city and the country in history.
New York conveniently forgot the 1996 federal ban on sanctuary laws until a gang of five Mexicans—four of them illegal—abducted and brutally raped a 42-year-old mother of two near some railroad tracks in Queens. The NYPD had already arrested three of the illegal aliens numerous times for such crimes as assault, attempted robbery, criminal trespass, illegal gun possession, and drug offenses.
The NYC police department had never notified the INS.......thanks to Giuliani.

You are so ill informed. Why, you’d just present your counterfeit driver’s license with your fake name and address to get your new legitimate drivers license with your fake name and address. Now you have twice as much identification as regular citizens, voila!

Bratton is a crook. I have no idea what his agenda is but it sure the hell is not for America. His latest proposal is to take the money designated for the police and do whatever it is he wants. The guy is a goon, we need police protection more than anything else here in Los Angeles what with the city protecting the identities of illegal aliens and gang bangers. Can you imagine a former police chief taking money from the police. Let us know who is an illegal alien and let us know who is a gang banger. We really don’t want them living in our neighborhoods. We don’t want them killing or threatening us. Because they are protecting those that are under 18 years old, I want to know what kind of punishment you are giving to the taggers such as THX, why is it all over my city. Is it too simplistic to put up a billboard with the underage taggers scribble and let the neighborhood know what the fine and penalty was when caught? You Ahole, I can remember getting pulled over because my license plate light didn’t work, now you don’t pull over anyone because you think you may have to deport them.
