Huckabee on the Offensive in Iowa
The Washington Post ^ | November 11, 2007 | Perry Bacon Jr. and Michael D. Shear

Posted on 11/10/2007 9:32:34 PM PST by dano1

If Mike Huckabee is right, the millions of dollars that his rivals for the White House have poured into their campaigns have been wasted.

Buoyed by polls that show him in second place among Republicans in this state, the former Arkansas governor has turned aggressive on the stump, picking fights last week with his competitors and promising to hit the airwaves with the $1 million he raised online last month, after raising just over $2 million in the first nine months of the year. He has moved almost his entire Little Rock operation to Des Moines and is preparing to hire more staff here soon.

The onetime Baptist preacher is betting that his mix of down-home Southern charm, social conservatism and economic populism will deliver a surprise on Jan. 3, when Iowa's voters cast the first ballots of 2008. He is encouraged by a sense that he has finally become a threat -- and a target.

Last week, former senator Fred D. Thompson of Tennessee called Huckabee pro-life "but liberal on everything else." Iowa front-runner Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, recently accused him of supporting "special tuition breaks" for the children of illegal immigrants. And critics of his Arkansas tax policies released a Web video renewing their claims that he is a "serial tax hiker" and a liar about his record.

In response to the attacks, Huckabee flashes the toothy grin that helped him twice win the governorship of a state not all that different from Iowa. While admitting that he raised some taxes, Huckabee says he lowered 94 others and raised the gas tax for roads only after a public referendum showed strong support for the idea. He said Thompson's claims that ...

Ahh, dano1, this is he same man who said:

“There are people who are opposing this bill (Amnesty) for racist reasons”

Jules I can laugh at because he is merely clueless, Mitt is a bit slick, not the sort I am likely to meet, Fred is alright not glib...Huckabee however, went out of his way to question my principles, and that is a non starter..end of story, he can peddle illegals for Tyson Foods as much as he would like, maybe they will vote for him...

Sure, I have links.

And here’s another one of Huckabee’s gems:

“Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority,” Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter.”

Very nice, Huckster. Yet another reason to loathe his man.

I note he’s speaking right beside the Tyson CEO. Appropriate. Both are sponsors of illegal immigrants.

Well, he’s not saying that everyone who opposes the bill is racist. He’s saying that a minority of people who oppose the bill are doing it for racist reasons. some != all.

You don’t punish the child for the parents having broken the law.

Makes sense to me.

Well, the Republican leadership always said they wanted a Big Tent.

Now we’ve got our very own Dennis Kucinich: Ron Paul.

And our very own Bill Clinton: Mike Huckabee.

Now we just need someone to do a Joe Biden imitation and we’ll be complete.

It makes no sense. Granting citizenship is a gift, some say our greatest gift to others. But not giving a gift is not the same as punishment. You are simply choosing not to improve their lives over what they would normally experience. But if you want to be charitable to these children, that’s another animal altogether. But it’s not punishment. Let’s tone down the liberalspeak.

Be careful padre, there is a HUGE difference between

“There are people who are opposing this bill (Amnesty) for racist reasons”

and

“People who oppose this bill are racists”

The first is almost certainly true. The second is a broad generalization that incorrectly paints everyone who opposes amnesty with the same brush.

Uber liberal political reporter for the WaPo, Michael Shear, has had two pro-Huckabee stories in the last few days. That’s all I need to know about Huckabee.

[The big Yuck has taken McCain’s support from the vaulted slimers in the MSM...not a good sign for the Yuck!]

Can the media or democrats or rinos even write truth or know truth anymore? I like Hunter and believe he is the best candidate for President but the rino GOP wants to run a big government liberal like Rudy or Mitt. What happened to the GOP?

Well let’s think about that for a moment, did Huckabee bother to point out “who” was a in opposition because they were racists and who was not?

What is the inference that is drawn if he did not?

Who would “some” be? Why anyone who doesn’t like Amnesty could be “some” of course.

That was my impression too, so I was shocked. Maybe it isn't official....

Ron Paul Revolution

I thought it was official because I thouhg it was posted by ronpaul2008.com, but I see now it was posted "in response to" a Ron Paul internet video contest.

If this has nothing to do with the campaign, I apologize, and my faith in his character, if not his views, is restored.

What hogwash, if a child receives the same treatment that his/her parents receive for a crime then that sounds like punishment to me.
