Barry Goldwater, Jr. Endorses Ron Paul

Barry M. Goldwater, Jr. endorsed Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul for president.

“America is at a crossroads,” said Mr. Goldwater. “We have begun to stray from our traditions and must get back to what has made us the greatest nation on earth or we will lose much of the freedom we hold dear. Ron Paul stands above all of the other candidates in his commitment to liberty and to America.”

“Leading America is difficult, and I know Ron Paul is the man for the job,” he added.

I’m claiming that this is a conservative site. And I’m claiming that it has been infiltrated by folks who support the war, but are not actual conservatives. They feel that just because they support a war, then BAM, all of a sudden that makes them a conservative.

Dingdingdingdingdingdingding!!!!!!!

We have a winner! Have you happen to have noticed what a high percentage of the Paul bashers happen to be Rudy fans?

What more needs to be said ? Simpy suggest a candidate running who has more conservative values than Ron Paul.

As a reminder:

“Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We’re working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!”

*************

LOL! A reminder:

How many times do I have to tell you that I am NOT interested in Ron Paul’s antiwar moonbatism. Can’t you take a hint? As far as I’m concerned, he’s allied with the enemy within. And I do not appreciate Ron Paul’s spam monkeys wasting our time and resources. Why don’t you take your obnoxious spam to some forum that might appreciate it? Might I suggest Alex Jones’ moonbats-R-us.com?

Neither are the freepers who are Paul fans. Almost all of us disagree with him on the war. I'm sure Jim has no problems with Paul's outstanding domestic positions.

OK, you are lazy. So I did a quick google search for some of his quotes in later years. Here is what I came up with — and they match exactly with what I remember. If you want documentation on his votes, you can find them on google-uncle-sam, in the Senate archives.

When Senator Barry Goldwater first heard that a madman had walked into a schoolyard in Stockton, California, with a rapid-firing AK-47 and shot off 100 rounds in just two minutes, killing 5 children and wounding 30, Senator Goldwater was quoted as saying, “I’m completely opposed to selling automatic rifles ... and I’ve been a member of the NRA.” He said, “I collect, make, and shoot guns. I’ve never used an automatic or semiautomatic for hunting. There’s no need to. They have no place in anybody’s arsenal.”

He voted FOR the “Brady Bill” and also for the “Assault Weapon Ban”.

He criticized the military’s ban on homosexuals: “Everyone knows that gays have served honorably in the military since at least the time of Julius Caesar.” He also said, “You don’t have to be straight to be in the military; you just have to be able to shoot straight.”

A few years before his death he went so far as to address the right wing, “Do not associate my name with anything you do. You are extremists, and you’ve hurt the Republican Party much more than the Democrats have.”

He changed in his later years. Either that or he fooled everyone in his earlier years.

House Republicans have been doing a great job, its the Republican leadership which is too elitist. Leadership is the presidency and a portion of the Republican Senators.

Let's try this, should Ron Paul supporters be imprisoned?

Again, there is no federal statute requiring a prosecutor to bring a case against anyone on any charge.

Unless you are suggesting there is such a statute of which I am unaware.

That from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God, and that government of the people by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth.

The question stands, even though you, and other liberals like you refuse to answer it:

“What more needs to be said ? Simpy suggest a candidate running who has more conservative values than Ron Paul.”

I would have to imagine Jim Robinson would support the most conservative person running, being that he runs a conservative site.

Barry Goldwater Jr., Ron Reagan Jr., two examples of conservative principles sometimes DO skip generations.

Maybe you should ask him. As for liberals, I suggest you look in the mirror.

I’m sick of it, and would’ve supported carpet bombing every single city, THEN drive into it.

You're sick of it??? These guys over here actually doing it aren't "sick of it," they're sick of blowhard armchair generals back home telling them how it should be done. They're sick of whiney, lefty cowards who want to pull them out of here before the job is done.

And guess what? IT'S GETTING DONE.

Thank God nobody listened to the Code Pink set. History is being made here and it is amazing. Victory and peace are settling upon us in SPITE of all the hand-wringing, clueless surrender-monkeys back home.

In fact, everything you quoted from Goldwater makes sense to me. Thank you for looking it up.

I think there is a clear difference between the necessities of civilian-owned weapons and weapons for military use, by the way.

I guess we’ll have to see won’t we ? If we had nuked all of Iraq, that would’ve cost 0 American lives. I understand your bleeding heart for the innocent Iraqi’s. But in times of war, there is no time to feel sorry for those folks. We’re talking about preserving the security of OUR nation.

I’m not talking about surrending, I’m talking about wiping them out. You want our soldier’s hands tied, I suggest we give them more power.

You’re content with a loss, and then just blaming the Democrats later about the loss. I’m content with nuking Iraq, because the Democrats will complain either way.

You’re also welcome to suggest a more conservative candidate than Ron Paul. But since anyone else running is a liberal, this puts you in a difficult position. Choosing a liberal just because he fights the war one way, compared to choosing a conservative who fights the war, with more integrity.

In these times, there are many ways to be at war without having a country to declare war upon. That was our problem with the escalating problem of Islamic radicalism and acts of terrorism leading up to the Sept 11 attack. Seeking out strongholds of those who would wage endless war against us requires some attachment of blame to nations, but it's been no easy task in dealing with the complexities of doing so.

Radical Islam is taking hard root throughout the globe. So we can either take the war to them and preserve our freedom from daily fear of attacks on our cities and neighborhoods, or we can do it Ron Paul’s way [similar to the Clinton way] in which we talk a lot and maybe even and slap them here and there but basically ignore the fact that they want us dead and are spreading like throughout the world like a virus. Securing the borders is definitely a necessary part of the equation, but so is continuing to take the fight to those who wish to bring it here.

That being said, we simply can't "declare war" on every nation which is breeding threats. We have adopted a strategy which, though clearly far from perfect and which can always be improved in hindsight, has kept America free from another major terrorist attack for many years.

The threat to our national security was, and still is, real. Do we really want to live under regular terrorist attacks? They have already demonstrated that it does not take a large standing army with high tech weapons to wage war against us and do serious damage to our way of life. Islamists don't respect talk or turning the other cheek. They only respect a willingness to fight and win. Hopefully, we will only get better at this as time goes on, and not just stop trying as some would advise.

Ummm, can you show me where the 2nd Amendment allows for restrictions on firearms? No wonder you hate Paul. You're afraid of freedom.

This thread is doing wonders in pointing out what motivates the majority of the Paul-haters.

So, you are saying you support the Brady Bill and “Assault Weapons Ban” (both of which Goldwater voted for), which we all know did not ban any “real” assault weapons, just the ones that the mere sight of them makes liberals go ickey-poo in their pants?

Arguing with you is about as intellectually stimulating as taking a dump.

Do all Paulistinians attend the same charm school?

Fine, I'm a traitor for not wanting gun laws and wanting Roe v. Wade to end and liking Ron Paul as a result.

Upholding the Second Amendment and abhorring the murder of the unborn are not incompatible with (1) supporting America's soldiers in time of war and (2) refusing to humor morons who believe that 9/11 was "an inside job."

Your support of Ron Paul cannot be solely ascribed to the two unexceptionable motives you mention.
