Barry Goldwater, Jr. Endorses Ron Paul
USA Daily ^ | November 16, 2007 | USA Daily Staff

Barry M. Goldwater, Jr. endorsed Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul for president.

“America is at a crossroads,” said Mr. Goldwater. “We have begun to stray from our traditions and must get back to what has made us the greatest nation on earth or we will lose much of the freedom we hold dear. Ron Paul stands above all of the other candidates in his commitment to liberty and to America.”

“Leading America is difficult, and I know Ron Paul is the man for the job,” he added.

****You’re sick of it??? These guys over here actually doing it aren’t “sick of it,” they’re sick of blowhard armchair generals back home telling them how it should be done. They’re sick of whiney, lefty cowards who want to pull them out of here before the job is done.*****

My source gave me a different message. When I asked a young platoon leader marine, who was leaving home for his second deployment in Iraq, what the general feelings of the troops were, he said that they felt like that had done what they were sent to do and were ready to get out. He also said that many of the older marine nco’s were not reenlisting as they were tired of spending so much time away from their families because of the repeated deployments. He is about 22-23 and will be the second oldest person in his platoon. Only the older man(who he says is a poor soldier) in the platoon has had any combat experience. So for all the rest of the platoon, this will be their first time under real fire.

“Don’t we check sources on FR anymore? I’ve never heard of “USA Daily” and it is the ONLY source on this “story.””

It is a Ron Paul site.

"You missed a fun thread."

Crazy busy at work today. A bunch of guys are already off for the holiday, so my action items are piled up.

I did get to see the thread and regret not having helped Zot the Paultard

It looks like you played a small part too. Is that an assist?

During a time of war, treason is punishable by death.

There is no current declaration of war.

Ron Paul ain't the Rosenbergs, pal.

The Rosenbergs were not convicted of treason.

Like he did when he said that Vietnam was a "useless war"? How encouraging for the veterans of that conflict.

You think the vets need a politician to tell them how f'ed up that situation was?

I suppose. It's weird, the dude was making some good points, but then he had to get all stubborn and not admit that he was wrong about Allegra's motives. And then he went and mouthed off to the moderator. Real smart there. 15 minutes till happy hour. Thank God.

He changed in his later years. Either that or he fooled everyone in his earlier years.

I disagree. In his later years, he gave different answers because folks were asking different questions. It's not safe to assume that a man who fights against communists will fight against faggots. That definition of conservatism is of recent vintage.

The average American did not think Goldwater was right.

That's because the average American has been dumbed down by history textbooks and the liberal media. Time has proven Goldwater to be correct. He had the foresight to predict almost everything that has ruined this nation now.

Richard Nixon did not trounce the Democrats by running as a Goldwater disciple. And after Goldwater smacked Ronald Reagan across the face with his non-endorsement, Reagan won with his own brand of conservatism, having completely outgrown Goldwater's petulant childishness.

A guy like Nixon wouldn't get elected dog catcher now. Like I said, Goldwater planted the seeds. These things take time, you know, once people read about his views they came around and embraced them. BTW, Reagan won because he's more telegenic and smoothed out the message with his excellent communication skills.

I appreciate the comic relief, certainly.

Laugh now, but when independents and libertarians stay home because the GOP nominated a turd like Rudy or Huckabee, the joke will be on you.

No, he's getting fringe types who normally vote Green, Democrat, New Alliance and Socialist to switch registration for the primaries with the express purpose of undermining the GOP's resolve to deafeat terrorism. None of these people will still be "Republicans" after Paul's candidacy finishes going down in flames.

Nonsense. Nearly all of the people who are supporting Dr. Paul are new voters and independents, in addition to angry conservatives frustrated at the GOP's big spending. Why would these left-wing groups support Paul when he's against their views, even right down to the war? If Paul endorses someone like Fred, most of his supporters will default to Fred in the general.

LOL! The GOP has more registered members as a percentage of the US population now than it has since before the days of FDR.

That's not a valid comparison. Of course, you'll have more members with a larger population than ever before too. Trust me, the GOP has alienated the libertarians, fiscal conservatives, and pro-American populists. Notice how the main GOP contenders are scrambling for endorsements from religious and pro-life bigwigs. Not to say they're not important, but people care more about dinner table issues than they do about Pat Robertson or Weyrich. If the other candidates don't start talking about limiting government and our national debt, they're toast.

So the base is the 55ish percent of Americans who consider themselves conservatives? Or the 70% of Americans who consider themselves religious? Or the presumably high percentage of Americans who would rather win a war than lose it?

They do want to win the war but they don't want us staying over in the Middle East for another generation, with permanent bases and such. Trust me, the GOP is in a tailspin.
