Barry Goldwater, Jr. Endorses Ron Paul

Barry M. Goldwater, Jr. endorsed Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul for president.

“America is at a crossroads,” said Mr. Goldwater. “We have begun to stray from our traditions and must get back to what has made us the greatest nation on earth or we will lose much of the freedom we hold dear. Ron Paul stands above all of the other candidates in his commitment to liberty and to America.”

“Leading America is difficult, and I know Ron Paul is the man for the job,” he added.

Barry Goldwater Sr. was a prominent traitor to the conservative movement: to wit, his wholehearted advocacy of abortion and of sodomy in the ranks of the military.

Barry Goldwater, Sr. died a disgusting embarrassment to the conservative movement: it took 16 years to recover from the damage he did in 1964 and he spent the 1980s trying to bring it down a second time.

He and Ron Paul are perfect together: a long legacy of fake conservativism.

I wonder too, but I fear it was just the peer pressure that a real man could have resisted. Being liked is too important to some people.

“I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwanted financial burden. ... And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ ‘interests,’ I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and in that cause I am doing the very best I can.”

— Barry Goldwater, Republican Presidential candidate in 1964

It’s a truly great speech. I’ve only read it. Does Mark Levin actually have the audio of Goldwater giving it?

Very true. I believe he was a true conservative when I supported him in 1964. However, by the end of his days, he even came out against gun owners. That is no conservative.

Yes, and the Yankees promised they would never again negotiate with Alex Rodriguez.

What an anti-semite pig Goldwater is. Ron Paul hate Jews, hates our troops, has horrible dental hygeine, is a New England Patriots fan, and checks out 11 items in the express lane.

He's already gone on record as stating that -- unless the eventual Republican nominee is willing to cut and run immediately from Iraq: he won't support 'em.

If Giuliani wins the nomination, will you vote for him or gind a conservative 3rd-party candidate?

He obviously wasn’t getting enough quality time from daddy, who was spending all his time trying to defeat communism.

So many issues.

"Just look at Reagans son."

Nah!

Look at the Republican Party.

Those with eyes to see and a memory longer than last night's tv shows can see where the problem is.

Yes, and the Yankees promised they would never again negotiate with Alex Rodriguez.

If your argument then, essentially, is: "Why, no, Ron Paul's own words can't actually be taken at face value, now that you mention it"... I have no problem with that interpretation, whatsoever. ;)

And keep on going...

Duncan Hunter in '08.... ;-)

He's like Dr. Paul, but without the anti-war nonsense.

Barry himself was under the sway of his Liberal wife by the time he passed away and was becoming a bit of a crank.

He had already been a crank for quite some time before his first wife died in 1985.

There is a long list of Goldwater's scummy moves to demonstrate that he talked a good game but never actually acted like a conservative.

I'll select one: in 1976 Ronald Reagan asked Goldwater, whom he had once considered a mentor, for his endorsement in the Republican primaries.

But Goldwater endorsed Ford instead, because Ford was the GOP's champion of abortion on demand.

As a result, Reagan narrowly lost the NH primary and we wound up with President Jimmy Carter.

Being useless would have been an aspiration for Goldwater.
