I'm a young college student that was brain-washed by my parents. I can't count the number of times I was told "Think for yourself...you have a brain for just that purpose."
I've opted to bypass the college student liberalism and be realistic.

Who wants to smell like perchloroethylene and acetone, anyway? You are giving the nanny staters more amunition - smokers are forcing them to be subjected to dangerous chemicals because they must purge themselves of the nasty smoking smell.

ATC: You misread my response. It was intended to be for College Repub.

Or maybe ATC I misread your response which was only intended to be a comment. LOL

Good riddance to smokers!
Have you a complete list of the undesirables that you would like to see expunged from the earth? Out with it, boy. I can't believe that of all the evils in the world, smoking is the one vice that you simply cannot tolerate. First, they came for the smokers....

It was for general comment only. I’m an 80 year old wrapped in an 18 year old body.

Lol! Actually, I’m remarkably unstinky under my arms, but I make up for it by smoking. :)

...and I write that as I listen to Glenn Millers WWII-Big Band Swing. Do you have the History Channel's 2-CD set called "Til Then". Excellent. This is not the music of my era but it is my favorite. My mother's era but I loved it so much I claim it too. Many years ago we attended a New Year's Eve dance affair and had the privilege to dance to the Glenn Miller Band under the direction of Buddy Morrow. A night I will never forget and the dance steps we love to dance to learned through Fred Astaire studio. See your Private messages.

Back when I was a bride-to-be, I registered for gifts at the now belly-up Folands. Walked around with a clipboard in one hand and a smoke in the other.
I also remember visiting my husband, before we were married, while he was at work at Radio Shack. We'd hang out on the salesfloor, smoking. That was back in 1990.

so, any word on how many budget bills are still floating around? No idea, but I bet it's quite a few. Our state budget is nothing more than smoke and mirrors...a magic trick which adeptly makes money from our pockets disappear.
Funny, isn't it? The House dims have the time to vote on legislation which is sure to be killed in the Senate, and they still haven't wrapped up the budget...

I'm shaking from laughing. Let me get this straight: You were staying out of establishments which allowed smoking because you were what...concerned for your health? And now you're pleased as punch because you can go out and
drink more?
You are soooooo on the wrong forum, dear! Thanks for the chuckle

The economy in Michigan is the worst in the nations. Employers are leaving in droves. Lansing is in chaos and THIS is what the democrats are wasting their time on???
To: ShadowDancer
Yup, thank goodness they’re finally taking steps to strengthen our languishing economy, crippling unemployment, and bloated government.
To: grellis
Just Damn—gave myself away. LOL
To: grellis
yeah, its really, REALLY irritating, especially to me. i have a job offer that’s dependant on one of the budget bills being passed.
*sigh*
and in the mean time, they’re passing around bills about helmet laws and smoking bans.

This is what I can't figure out, especially given the mitten's current financial state: Why try enacting a ban? Why isn't our state gubmint trying to cash in--FURTHER--on smokers?
If the dims had put any thought into it, they'd have realized that this is a money-making opportunity. What does a store, restaurant, bar etc do if they want to sell alcohol? They apply for a license ($$$). Let's imagine our state gubmint goes that route: How else, besides licensing fees, can they make money off of establishments friendly to smokers? Why not require--as a condition of licensing--special ventilation systems? ($$$ KA-CHING $$$--unionized mechanical contractors making money, permit department raking in the fees, code compliance heavies finding faults everywhere, assessing all kinds of violation fees...)
I'm astounded that the dims would go for an outright ban, when a golden calf, chewing on tobacco leaves, is just a-sittin in yonder pasture!
Kinda scary, just how easily I can slip into the mind of a dim...
