Obama: My wife sees need for rural gun ownership
The swamp ^ | November 25, 2007 | John McCormick

HARLAN, Iowa -- From his days of campaigning in Downstate Illinois, Sen. Barack Obama has been asked plenty of times about his views on gun ownership.

But the Illinois Democrat and presidential candidate added a new wrinkle Saturday night while campaigning in conservative-leaning western Iowa, when he said his Chicago-native wife, Michelle, recently commented that she could see why rural folks might want to own guns.

Here was Obama's discussion of gun ownership and his wife's thoughts during a campaign stop at a middle school:

--snip--

"And by the way, Michelle, my wife, she was traveling up, I think, in eastern Iowa, she was driving through this nice, beautiful area, going through all this farmland and hills and rivers and she said 'Boy, it's really pretty up here,' but she said, 'But you know, I can see why if I was living out here, I'd want a gun. Because, you know, 911 is going to take some time before somebody responds. You know what I mean? You know, it's like five miles between every house.'

"So the point is, though, we should be able to do that, and we should be able to enforce laws that keep guns off the streets in inner cities because some unscrupulous gun dealer is, you know, letting somebody load up a van with a bunch of cheap handguns or sawed-off shotguns and dumping them and selling them for a profit in the streets."

I am more convinced than ever that Barack Osamabama is a creation of the Shrillary campaign. He’s SOOOOO stupid that he makes the witch looks sane, smart and moderate in comparison.

“But you know, I can see why if I was living out here, I’d want a gun. Because, you know, 911 is going to take some time before somebody responds. You know what I mean? You know, it’s like five miles between every house.” Gee, Osamabama & Michelle, let’s Fisk that contemptuous bunch of crap a little, shall we:

1) I couldn’t give a rat’s arse what Michelle Osamabama thinks about anything. She’s not running for office. Though I must state that the fact that she appears to be even more of a nasty, preachy beech than Shrillary doesn’t exactly give me the warm & fuzzies about going out and voting for her de-balled, Moslem-educated, husband.

2) Osamabama is dumber than a log for mentioning that - because it shows (once again) that he’d be a weak leader. First he says that he’ll talk to any of our avowed enemies without any pre-conditions, then he promises no use of nuclear weapons under ANY circumstances, and now this. To quote Bugs Bunny, “What a Maroooooon!”

3) Ever here of Equal Protection? That’s the concept which says that what’s good for one citizen is good for any other one. So if rural folk can have guns, so can everyone else. Or maybe you mean that only YOU would get a gun (that’s right, I can read and understand “I can see why if I was living out here, ***I’d*** want a gun.”), not the rest of us - and that you do, indeed, believe in Equal Protection since you’ll screw all of us equally as bad.

4) The whole basis for the “you don’t need guns” argument is that the police will protect you. Well, guess what: even assuming that 10 armed cops are walking by your house and see a motorcycle gang armed with sawed-off shotguns breaking into your house, THEY HAVE NO LEGAL OBLIGATION TO DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT YOU. They can go to the local Dunkin’ Donuts for a health food break and show up an hour later to chalk your outline, and nothing will happen except that your blood will have congealed more than if they walked in 5 minutes after the fact.

5) We’re not asking you if we can have guns. We have them (somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 million, many millions of which are centerfire rifles accurate to minute-of-skull at 500 yards, by the way), we’ll buy as many more as we’d like (and lots of ammo for them), and you have to deal with that. We’re not giving up our freedom and liberties, or selling out our children’s and grandchildren’s birthright, because you were either so traumatized by criminal acts in your past that you can’t think straight, or else you are so tripped-out by the power you can almost taste that you feel the need to be a dictator’s bossy wife.

6) By the way, if either Michelle or Osamabama know, care to know or give a damn, the origins of gun control in this country are decidedly racist. Yeah, that’s right, gun control as we know it today got its start in the effort to keep guns out of the hands of blacks - even Free Blacks. That’s what made the Dred Scott case so abominable: It concluded (among other things) that **only because Dred Scott was property** was he without the right to own firearms. Look in the mirror a bit and think about that one, morons. Taking away the guns of most of the population would put you in the same position as the bigotted cowards who wore (and still wear) white sheets. Great company you keep.

So, Michelle and Osamabama (and anyone else who “thinks” like they do about guns), in conclusion I’d just like to say the following: “Persian, COME AND GET THEM!!”

The 2nd amendment doesn’t distinguish between urban and rural gun ownership. Does Mrs. Obama know this?

My prediction for Heller is even if SCOTUS finds an individual right, they will leave room for some regulation. They won’t clear Ma Deuce for sale at WalMart.

Don't give up hope so fast: the DC Circuit Court concluded that a law which banned the possession of an entire class of weapons (i.e. all handguns not registered in DC prior to sometime in 1976) was in violation of the 2nd Amendment. If the Supreme Court upholds that ruling (and they should, or they risk the validity of every other part of the Bill of Rights in which any right of "the people" is stated), then we have almost a slam dunk on the issue of full autos. Here's why:

Title 18, Section 922(o) bans the possession by a civilian (i.e. non-Class 3 dealers, police officers, National Guard and Armed Forces personnel) of any full auto firearm manufactured after May 19(?), 1986. All other full autos registered before that under the terms of the 1934 National Firearms Act are still legal in most states (and there are some 200,000 out there). In other words, Section 922(o) bans an entire class of firearms. It is exactly as unconstitutional as the DC law. Oh, and it is federal law - you don't even have to delve into whether the 2nd Amendment has been incorporated against state and local governments by the 14th Amendment. Further, there already IS some regulation of full autos - you have to pay $200 for a tax stamp, which you can't get unless your state's law allows for you to own full autos, you have to get the permission of your local chief LEO (though if you can't get it then form a corporation and you don't need the permission), and you have to pass a background check. That seems like plenty of regulation to me (too much, actually, but that's me).

I sincerely hope that shortly after the USSC confirms the DC Circuit's ruling we have the Congress pass a repeal of 922(o). It'd be a shame to have to fight a whole other court battle to take back more of those rights that are plainly ours, and which have plainly been infringed for too long.

Gee Michelle, my wife and I were traveling through Chicago, Cabreenie Green to be exact and she remarked how she can see why these residents should be armed.

Court agrees to consider D.C. gun ban (The court...will limit its ruling to one question!!!)

"The court said yesterday it will limit its ruling to one question: whether D.C. laws 'violate the Second Amendment rights of individuals who are not affiliated with any state-regulated militia, but who wish to keep handguns and other firearms for private use in their homes.'"

You have to like how they framed the question. I don't know how you regulate without infringing.

Isn't the phrase, "in inner cities" usually a code word for "ethnic and/or racial minorities"? The statement certainly gives the appearance that Michelle Obama wants to use what amounts to racial and ethnic profiling to keep guns out of the hands of "minorities", and Barack Obama seemingly does not find that objectionable...

If some gun-control-freak were to come out honestly, and assert his opinion that blacks were stupid little monkey children, who can't be trusted with guns ... the screaming and hollering from everybody ... left, center, and right ... would be deafening. And rightly so.

When they say essentially that, without the inflammatory language ... the left slurps it up, and the right barely notices the truly foul and insulting nature of what the gun-banners are saying.

Ah, but Anthony Kennedy will be in the middle on this one, and he can do some very creative writing.

"...commented that she could see why rural folks might want to own guns."

Nice to say that, because "rural folks" don't really matter - they get out-voted by 'rat-infested-urban-hell-hole-folks' 99% of the time...

>>a lot can happen in 2.5 minutes (average police response time) in the city too, michelle.

2.5 minutes? In L.A., you’d be lucky if the police got there in under an hour.

LOL. It's sure not like that fast 911 response in Chicago where they are able to haul your dead carcass off to the morgue before it even gets cold.

Call 911 for clean-up service.
