What Would Free Republic Do If Fred Thompson Is Not The Republican Nominee? (Vanity)
December 9 2007 | jveritas

It is very obvious that Fred Thompson is Free Republic most favorite candidate and by far. On the other hand every other top tier Republican candidate, Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee, and McCain are absolutely disdained by most Freepers. Therefore this is the important question:

What would Free Republic do if Fred Thompson is not the Republican Party Nominee?

PA is as blue as blue can be and the Dem base was highly energized in the election last year so I guess my vote will be a moot point.

You have to admit it...our Party has lost it’s backbone. There are very few conservatives (fiscal and social) left anymore.

Agree; and it will not take four years of a Hillary 'presidency' - in truth, more accurately defined as 'reign - for her to bend into something totally unrecognizeable; whatever is now left of 'Repub 'backbone'.

And the Libs 'PC' will just finish America off as well and for good measure.

Whatever it means. . .we must have Leadership with a Repubican name on it. Whatever it costs for someone to hold their nose and vote - should they need to. . .

I dunno... Moon the RINO nominee at FReeps? It won’t really matter to me. If the Party doesn’t nominate a conservative, it will have become obvious that I’m not really a Republican; at least not by their definition.

Support the nominee. Why would I want Hillary or Obama in the White House? To prove something to myself? What good would that do the country?

Im glad we are talking about this. I disagree with you, but I think this is very important for us to discuss.

I am a Conservative, and I do not see many Conservatives in office, this includes our President. He has many Conservative principles, but over all, he is far from being a Conservative. I knew this in 2000 and 2004, but I voted for him. If I the majority of the voting public that want Conservatives in office would have voted 3rd party, then Al Gore (or Kerry) would have picked the US Supreme Court Justices. That is a fact.

Here is what I am saying......

The Marxist Liberals want a Collective Socialist society, and they are changing the democrat party to just that. Look how much it has changed since President Kennedy. Changing a political party to move in a direction can be done.

If you vote 3rd party or write in, the end result is the dame as voting democrat. And all those people that did just that this last election can sit back on their "principle", but I now live in this Country with the democrats running congress. Those that voted 3rd party screwed America in 2006. Harry Reid is now the Senate Majority leader. Nancy Pelosi is now the House Speaker. Do you think for a minute this "Helps" us? President Bush is not a true Conservative, but he picked a couple great Supreme Court Justices, he certainly did better that Algore would have done, thank God President Bush won.

I am saying that the statement of"If it takes the complete destruction of the republican party as a viable political force to create a truly conservative party then so be it." is wrong. I do not think it will work. I think it is destructive to the USA. Roodie is a RINO, he stands for things I despise. He is pro-abortion, he is a gun grabber. But so are the democrats!!! Who would be better in the War on Terror? Who would pick better Supreme Court Justices? Who would protect Capitalism and the Free Market better? Him or Hillary? Vote 3rd party and the result is the same. As Rush says “Election Results have Consequences.”

I am not trying to get a flame war going, I am not trying to be insulting to you. I do think this is an extremely important thing for all of us to discuss. We need to talk about this allot for the next 11 months. All of need to get this out in the open, it is to important to get polarized and close minded over. We need to analyze the long term results. Rb ver. 2.0 believes the long term results of destroying the Republican Party would be a new strong Conservative Party. I disagree with that opinion. IMHO I believe the Republican Party can be moved more towards Conservative Principles. Destroy it, and you will destroy our freedom, and never get the chance to build up a new stronger party.

I think you underestimate the consequences of a Hillary Administrationher ....disdain of our Military; our Constitution - the ‘Electoral’ college...Imagine our Supreme Court...’

Absolutely outstanding post!! You are spot on!
You should send this to the RNC......for some reason they don’t seem to communicate the serious dangers of a Dem win.

“How is conservatism advanced by the likes of Rudy or Romney?”

I’m sorry, but the answer is blatantly obvious. Both are fiscal conservatives. You have a guy like Romney who vows to cut spending by inflation minus 1%. Those are conservative principles, my dear.

I’m not in the camp that says that Romney is a flaming liberal because he changed his mind on abortion. I’m glad to see him make that change, and if anything, I think he’s made the transition quite well.

I’m not sure what you mean by “advance” conservative ideals. I think Romney gets economics better than any of our candidates. Thompson is also someone who I consider very strong.

The two weakest conservatives I see are Giuliani (who I think could at least get something done economically) and Huckabee (who I can’t see accomplishing anything).

Thompson and Romney are our best. Those two are where the money is.

"America, our country, is more important than a political party."

You believe that yet you will still vote for anybody with an 'R' after their name? Confusing.

I will cross that bridge when and if I have to. My mom always told me not to count my chickens before they hatch.
So I guess time will tell. When the convention is over and we know who the nominee is, I will then be able to know what I will do.

[Write-in or possibly 3rd party. Why waste a perfectly good vote on a RHINO?]

If you do that, make sure you’re in a state that’s going to go Democrat or Republican without your vote. We saw in 2000 and again in 2004 that states can swing on a narrow number of votes. I would hate to lose a Florida or Ohio to Hillobmama Bidenwards over a small number of discontented voters.

jveritas, thanks for beginning this dialog. Grego, thanks for your very reasoned and respectful post.

It’s good we’re all ‘discussing’ this...and, when all is said and done, I hope we all come to the conclusion we are AMERICANS before we are conservatives, republicans, independents, etc. Except for Paul, sure seems like any of the R candidates would be better for America than Hillary or Obama.

To those who feel they cannot vote for the candidate of the Republican Party in 2008, there is but one honorable act to perform: leave the party and form another, or cleave unto a different party.

Shouldn't you be posting your jackbootism on a republican site?

America, our country, is more important than a political party. imho, a Democrat with Socialist tendencies who leans toward a one world order and is not willing to defend America is MUCH more dangerous than a RINO.

The betrayal of Conservative principles is worse than the opposition to them. Republican RINO Globalism also desires a one world order, and the Republican Amnesty plan flies in the face of defense and security.

America is my concern too, but I do not believe the Republicans have her interests at heart.. At least not the Republicans in power. They are without the moral sense one associates with the conservative party.
