Israel: Forget U.S. intel, Iran nukes at full speed

JERUSALEM – Israel has "incriminating" information Iran has continued its nuclear weapons program, directly contradicting last week's U.S. intelligence report stating Iran suspended its ambition in 2003.

"The Iranians continue their push for nuclear weapons in specific ways, including the acquisition and development of missiles," said a senior Israeli security official who has access to classified Israeli defense material and intelligence reports on Iran.

"Iran hides its nuclear weapons program but it continues nonetheless," he told WND, indicating the U.S. estimate may have been "politically motivated."

The security official said Israel possesses "incriminating" information that Iran continues its purported drive to obtain nuclear weapons.

But he said the government here has not yet decided what to do regarding the information and material Israel purportedly possesses.

The official said the U.S. estimate has "many holes in it." He said Israel is "gravely concerned" the report may remove the U.S. military option against Iran from the table, and is likely to be the foundation for Russian and Chinese vetoes against further sanctions on Iran scheduled to be discussed tomorrow at the United Nations.

The U.S. National Intelligence Estimate, which represents the consensus view of all 16 American spy agencies, released its report last week judging with "high confidence" that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003.

The report judged with "moderate confidence" that Iran has not restarted its nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007.

"But we do not know whether [Iran] currently intends to develop nuclear weapons," stated the NIE report.

The report totaled nine pages. The first page was a colored cover with no information. Four pages gave the background history of the NIE, with one page focusing on the scope of the report on Iran and another page including a coded chart on how to read the report.

Does smoking cause cancer? Well, it’s debatable.

Is global warming occurring? Well, it’s debatable.

Does Iraq have WMD? Well, it’s debatable.

Does Iran have WMD? Well, it’s debatable.

I’ll say it a million times but when a country’s best scientist, engineers and intellectuals have no voice and politicians and lawyers rule, then everything is debateable.....

If the CIA is so dumb as to believe their own propaganda they need to be fired. If they are on the take from forces that seek to lower our guard and destroy us then the CIA should be gutted. Anyway you look at it, the intel community needs an overhaul...

Could this be the fingerprints of poppy bush 'protecting' his cronies and cohorts to the tune that junior pays the price???

No. No. Say it isn't so!! Let's see, who to believe? The CIA or the Mossad? Boy, that's a tough call.

I just wonder if this is sandbagging Israel into concessions later this year to the Palestinians.

The “peace process” is moving forward right now.

The “peace deal” will be pushed on Israel right after the election next year.

The CIA and State Dept. need some serious house cleaning.

For some reason Condi hasn’t had the courage of her convictions, sufficient to overcome the departments ingrained belief that talking solves all.
Never mind that the U.S. counterparts in these discussions are ALWAYS lying with the twofold objectives of buying time and stealing our money.

Who’s intel to we most trust? I believe Israel has a good reason to have accurate intelligence - it is their nation directly in the targeting system of Iran’s weapons.

A question emerges, how are MREs packaged?

I agree with the premise of your comment, but would add that scientists, engineers, and intellectuals can be equally political and driven by self interest. Further, how does one define who are a country’s ‘best’? The most innovative scientists are not necessarily the ones with the most NIH grants or the most publications. The ‘best’ intellectuals are not necessarily department heads at universities. I think everyone needs to have more voice.

There are 3 things that we know for sure...

1) Ahmanutjob has publicly stated that they were developing nuclear weapons and would use them against Israel. One of the leading mullahs once stated that the deaths of 10s of millions of muslims would be worth a nuclear exchange with Israel, if it would wipe out half of the world’s Jews.

2) The CIA and state department have been working hard to discredit the President’s policies pretty much since he came into office. They seem to not understand that they’re supposed to implement the President’s policies, not set them.

3) Our intelligence agencies have a really lousy track record of keeping track of what’s happening elsewhere in the world. They did such a good job of believing what was happening with North Korea and their nukes, and I don’t think that we’ll ever know for sure what was and wasn’t known before the invasion of Iraq - Frankly I think that our Intel was good, but politics has kept us from revealing what was happening. And the silence of the arab and muslim world over the Israeli raid in Syria speaks VOLUMES! I think that things are a lot farther along than anyone wants to admit.

I just wonder how closely this release was tied to “Annapolis.”

The definitive answer about Iran’s nuclear ambitions will be when they detonate their first nuke, which I would bet will happen by the end of 2009. All of these pundits and experts will have a lot of explaining to do when that happens. Of course the Democrats will blame Bush for allowing it to happen or goading the Iranians into seeking nukes. Let’s just hope that President Hillary won’t have to make the decision what to do about a nuclear armed Iran.

“In the middle of the previous century the Americans received intelligence reports from Auschwitz on the packed trains going to the extermination camps. They claimed then that the railways were industrial. Their attitude today to the information coming out of Iran on the Iranians’ intention to produce a nuclear bomb reminds one of their attitude during the Holocaust,”

OUCH! That’s gonna leave a mark...better put some ice on it.

AI think everyone needs to have more voice.

Einstein was a horrible husband. The idea of Socrates to establish a country ruled by philosophers wouldn't survive over the short term. The reality is "everyone needs to be respected and have more voice".

Whats pretty clear to me is that this technological information has been around for ages. I believe every country has them one way or another.

israel is right because this bush report doesn’t sit right with me. Iran is always applauding their advancements, (anybody remember when they said they cured aids a while back?) but really, are we that blind.

I sometimes see reports that iran will have a nuke by 2015 or some year in the distant future. Really, who doesn’t have them now is my question? But what has been found, whats above ground whats underground, who has been inspecting is a different story.

I totally think iran has them, and has for a while. Whatever smokescreen they used worked, but let’s not kid ourselves. It’s almost like asking the country next door if they have the color tv yet.

-hunter - back.

I’ve not eaten many MRE’s. I’d rather go without eating for a few days. I tried to feed one to a large male Akita I once owned. He growled and wouldn’t eat them.

I do have a few old MRE packages at home. Seems they are in an aluminized vacuum pack.

The U.S. National Intelligence Estimate, which represents the consensus view of all 16 American spy agencies, released its report last week judging with "high confidence" that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003.

WRONG!!! The NIE stated that Iran had stopped its military program to develop nukes. It said nothing about the civilian program - which is racing ahead with thousands of centrifuges in operation and tens of thousands more in the works to produced enriched uranium. That substance is THE critical component of any beginning nuke program - and developing a workable bomb once you have sufficient enriched uranium is not terribly difficult for a nation that was able to produce the uranium in the first place. We built 2 bombs and shipped them halfway around the world via ship in 3 weeks in 1945 - what makes ANYONE think that Iran can't do the same 62 years later?

The report judged with "moderate confidence" that Iran has not restarted its nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007.

If you had a revolver with one live round of ammo in its chambers, and someone said that he had "moderate confidence" that the next chamber was empty, would you point the gun at your head and pull the trigger? I wouldn't, and apparently Israel is not so stupid as to do so, either.

The CIA and other intelligence agencies are so riddled with Leftist ideologs that can't see the forest for the trees BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO DO SO that I question why anyone relies on them.
