HUNTER FIGHTING TO OVERTURN HOUSE DEMOCRATS FENCE REDUCTION

Washington, D.C.–Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter returned to Washington this morning to immediately begin his efforts to overturn provisions contained in a Democratic spending bill that eliminates current legal requirements for double-layered border fencing. Congress last year passed legislation authored by Hunter, the Secure Fence Act, mandating double-layered fencing and related infrastructure at strategic entry points along the Southwest border.

“Now is the time when those who take the threat to our nation’s borders seriously stand up and be counted,” said Hunter. “Last year, Congress successfully passed legislation that mandated a double fence requirement based on the success of the border fence we’ve built in San Diego. The Democrat majority in this Congress has taken it upon themselves to overturn federal law to pursue a policy that does nothing but harm our border enforcement capabilities. This is not leadership, it is irresponsibility.

“Border enforcement is too serious of an issue to pursue only when politically convenient at election time. If Congress is to reverse its border stance after just one year, what message does that send to illegal immigrants and drug smugglers who are watching to see how serious we are about protecting America’s borders? I believe we must uphold our nation’s immigration laws, support our agents serving on the border and protect our border communities and I am going to make every effort to overturn the damage this Democrat leadership has caused.”

H.R. 2764, a bill that provides funding for several federal departments and agencies, was brought to the House floor and passed late last evening by the Democratic leadership. Not only does the bill contain provisions removing all specific locations as outlined by the Secure Fence Act, it also removes all requirements to construct any fencing or physical barriers along the border. This action basically repeals the Secure Fence Act and undermines past efforts to secure our nation’s border.

H.R. 2764 has been referred to the Senate for consideration and then will be returning to the House with any changes in the form of a conference report. Congressman Hunter is working with his colleagues in both the House and Senate to ensure that these dangerous provisions do not remain in the final version of the funding bill.

Well we know what Hunter and Tancredo have to say. Now lets hear what the other candidates have to say if they’ve got what it takes.

Agreed. In particular, if Fred Thompson wants establish his bona fides, differentiate himself and break away from the pack he needs to grab this ball and run with it.

This fence isn’t going to be built. It’s all political posturing. It costs too much, and people don't want to give up their property to build it. That's reality.

I must say the Fred supporters have a great handle on reality. The reality is it doesn't cost anything compared to the cost burden illegal invaders put on US taxpayers. People don't want to give up their property to build it? They are not building down the middle of residential neighborhoods. The border fence will be on the border. I can't imagine there is a place more congested or populated on the border than San Diego, yet the fence got built there. I will agree the fence entails a lot of posturing, but certainly not from Hunter. The political posturing came from a congress that wanted to appease the sheeple just before the 2006 elections. The posturing came in from all the presidential candidates because it is politically expedient. You ever hear Huckabee, Fred, Mitt, McCain or Rudy talk about a fence before their presidential runs?

If Chertoff and Bush hadn’t been fiddling and stalling, the fence would have already been built and it would be a non-issue.

Has anybody heard a RAT give specifics as to why this was ripped from the bill?

Thanks for the ping, nic.

The reasons Duncan Hunter hasn’t got a prayer of inhabiting the White House, even though he is the most suitable candidate to serve as leader of the free world are:

(1) He has no ‘charisma’ – and, in modern America, ‘charisma’ is significantly more important than allegiance to the Constitution, faith in our republican system of government, honesty, intelligence, integrity, and dedication to ensuring America’s sovereignty.

(2) The other candidates are busy pandering to countless special interest groups, and solving frivolous media-created 'crises'. Such pandering/superficiality gains instant media access. Hunter is busy proposing genuine solutions to what ails us. The media throws such serious, high-level proposals into a ‘un-newsworthy’ black hole. After all, such stories are neither entertaining nor attractive for the five-minute sound-bite garbage that passes for ‘news’ these days.

(3) The average American, whose desire to hold the mainstream media accountable in order to ferret out the truth is virtually non-existent, hasn’t even heard of Duncan Hunter. But he can tell you that he’s not quite sure he could vote for a Mormon candidate … or he can recite a litany of reasons that human beings are evil and are destroying the planet with their carbon emissions … or he can provide you with the moment-by-moment whereabouts and tribulations of Brittney Spears. Hitler’s belief (that constant repetition of simple lies is among the most powerful propaganda tools) is being tested, and proved absolute genius, in America 2007.

Can’t fault only our corrupt, power-hungry Congress for the lack of a fence … and the widespread devastation that will eventually occur as a result of its non-existence. Our President has broken countless promises in that regard as well. I believe that 90%+ of the politicians in Washington place the amassing of power, the health of the ‘business community’, and the placating of powerful special interest groups far above the need to ensure the safety of our citizens and the sovereignty of our republic.

I’ve often said that the only thing that could help us reclaim our republic from the scoundrels who are bent of her destruction would be the election of another Reagan. But I don’t believe even Ronald Reagan could win election in today’s political climate … which goes a long way toward explaining Duncan Hunter’s media-created anonymity as a candidate. When people, or groups, have a vested interest in evil, they are eager to silence those who proclaim the truth.

It’s not being ripped per se, it is being worded in such a way as it will never have to be built. It is more a suggestion than a law, if the Director of Homeland Security wants to build it, basically. Two of those Rats are Kay Bailey and Corny. It’s disgusting.

You've got a way with words, joanie. Sadly, I must agree with everything you said, completely. What a tragic state of affairs for this country, present and future. America's longevity as a leader is dim, just as dim as an electable leader emerging from this country with America's best interests at heart.

If every person who said “He’s a really great congressman but...” were to send him $25, he would find himself with a few million dollars immediately.
