The half ton mum: Tragic story of world's heaviest woman
The Daily Mail (UK) ^ | December 30, 2007 | TAMARA HARDINGHAM-GI

Renee Williams became the largest person ever to have gastric bypass surgery earlier this year after ballooning to nearly seventy stone – but died 12 days later.

The bedridden 29-year-old begged doctors to perform the operation when she became so large that she couldn't hug her two children.

Her astonishing size meant that the operating table had to be specially widened for the procedure.

The operation was successful and Renee lost four stone due to her reduced stomach capacity before dying of a sudden heart attack less than two weeks later. Her story is told in a Channel 4 programme next week.

Renee, from Austin, Texas, had battled with her weight since childhood and was classified as super-morbidly obese at the age of 12.

I didn't think they were supposed to operate on the morbidly obese. Such patients here in the states (at least in CA) are required to get their weight down to a managable level first. At her weight I'm surprised the surgeon couuld even find her organs.

They told me she was only 25. They didn’t say she was only 25 stone!

The article says that 12 doctors turned her down before she found one who would do the surgery.

She was told all the risks—what I wonder is whether her family will probably try to sue the doctor over her death regardless.

My wife is a surgical PA. The stories she tells about the OR crew trying to move the morbidly obese is just gross.

The problem with a super huge woman like the above is that the OR table won't support such an one.

Or their fat is rolling all over the place, like a lump of dough.

I doubt it would go too far considering she was given less than a year to live before she had the surgery...

I saw a woman on one of those channels, she had a huge tumor removed and the surgery room had a crane rigged up to raise the tumor as they surgically removed it.

Wanna tell you a story

'Bout a woman I know

When it comes to lovin'

Oh she steals the show

She ain't exactly pretty

Ain't exactly small

Forty-two, thirty-nine, fifty-six

You could say she's got it all

Never had a woman

Never had a woman like you

Doing all the things

Doing all the things you do

Ain't no fairy story

Ain't no skin and bone

But you give it all you got

Weighing in at nineteen stone

CHORUS:

You're a whole lotta woman!

A whole lotta woman!

Whole lotta Rosie!

Whole lotta Rosie!

Whole lotta Rosie!

And you're a whole lotta woman.........

Second song I ever learned on rhythm guitar, after 'Free Bird'.

And for her. Given what I read, she had no chance at a real life from the get go.

What a tragic story; even though some may deem her a pariah for her weight, I find her just as worthy of sympathy as some “beautiful” celebrity who overdoses on drugs. However, it does seem strange and VERY UNHEALTHY that she lost 56 pounds in 14 days. That should have been an immediate indicator that something went dreadfully wrong in this procedure.

God bless her in her life hereafter - certainly somewhere, she was beautiful to someone. Certainly she was beautiful to God...
