Serb PM tells EU to choose between Serbia and Kosovo

BELGRADE: The European Union must choose between signing an accord with Serbia or deploying a mission to Kosovo as a prelude to an independence declaration by the breakaway province, Serbia's prime minister said on Thursday.

In a written statement, Vojislav Kostunica said that when EU foreign ministers met on January 28, the bloc would have to choose "whether it wants a whole... Serbia as a partner, or it wants to create a 'quasi state' on Serb territory".

"The EU must choose... whether it will sign a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Serbia or, under United States pressure, send a mission to implement (a plan for) supervised independence of Kosovo, snatching part of Serbia's territory."

Kosovo is expected to declare independence early this year. Thursday's statement echoes a Kostunica-sponsored parliament resolution that Serbia would shun offers of EU membership if the bloc recognises Kosovo as an independent state.

Kostunica indicated that instead of signing the agreement -- a first step towards EU membership -- Serbia might take a step back. If the EU took the "illegal decision" to send a mission to Kosovo, it would effectively be making "null and void" the initialling of the accord in December, he said.

I honestly do not understand US policy in this area. Realpolitik would seem to imply there is in fact a hidden economic motive for this. Where is it? Only thing I can think of is a trafficking entry point into central europe.

The EU & America are doing to Serbia what they’re about to do to Israel. Both will end badly.

Just to add on your remark. In 2006 Israeli action in Lebanon, Louise Arbour, high ranking UN official said “There are indications that Israeli commanders could be indicted for war crimes.” She wrote indictment for Milosevic.

US policy? It’s about satisfying our Muslim masters in Saudi Arabia.

Sadly, it’s about oil that comes from that hellhole.

Just a suggestion.

I have studied and educated myself in this area substantially and I don't understand US policy objectives in the the area any more than Wolfdog does. Why don't you just explain it to all us dummies. Just a suggestion.

Balls and truth.

This is similar to when the Brits created Pakistan out of nothing but Islamic hatred of infidels. It's just great to have the Pakis to deal with now. This will turn out worse.

"I honestly do not understand US policy in this area

There are only four things to understand and I guarantee that you won't like them. The rest is a smokescreen.

1. We are sacrificing Christian land in order to show that the US isn't "anti-Muslim" and to please Saudi Arabia. 'Metohija' in the name of the area, "Kosovo-Metohija" literally translates to "Land of Monasteries" and the US wants to turn it into "Land of the Mosques"

2. The Albanian American Civic League has poured millions into American Congressional and Presidential campaign coffers over the last 15 years, and the AACL is funded by the Kosovo Albanian Mafia.

3. Albania and Kosovo are completely and totally corrupt -- a dreamland for making money for a politician's corrupt friends and supporters.

4. We have screwed up and now we are not willing to admit that we have made a mistake, so we are trying to put "a happy face" on the Kosovo Albanians as being "only moderately Muslim" -- while they have desecrated and destroyed over 150 Christian churches right under the noses of NATO troops.

"This should be noted by both responsible leaders of Islamic governments, such as Indonesia, and also for jihadists of all color and hue. The United States' principles are universal, and, in this instance, the United States stands foursquare for the creation of an overwhelmingly Muslim country in the very heart of Europe." Representative Tom Lantos, Chair of the US House Foreign Relations Committee

Issat a fact?

Ok then, take the December 1992 "Chrstmas warning", put it together with Serbia's continuing inability to come to terms with what their police and armed forced did in Kosovo during 1998 & 1999, add in our "Europe whole and free" policy, and what's not to understand?

You're educated, so you know exactly what I'm talking about, right?

I could mention that in light of Kostunica's recent statement to the EU, it's ironic to the point of hilarity that none other than Slovenia's Dmitri Rupel took over the EU's rotating presidency on Jan 1st, as Slovenia's initial impetus to leave Yugoslavia derived in no small part from what they saw in Kosovo with Serbian mistreatment of K-Albanians, and Rupel was an ardent Slovenian secessionist, but you know all that, so I'd merely be belabouring the obvious.

Re: Post #13

I've reached the same conclusion as your point #1: i.e., We are supporting this islamic foothold in Europe - at the expense of Serbian-Christians - in order to provide 'cover' that we're really not anti-islamic as we try to hammer Al-Queda and Sadam's old regime...

Kind of dumb. And something that I'd like to blame on the State Department - since I know they don't serve our nation's interests - but President Bush has been in charge long enough, and he could have rectified this situation had he chose.
I can only hope that we're just playing lip service regarding our support for the mohammedan interests in Kosovo.

He speaks the truth.

Serbia’s demonstated brutality was - and continues to be - a warning to all.

How soon before they start more violence in Kosovo?

I know, I laughed so hard that I almost spit my coffee across the room when I read that whopper from Hoplite!

When Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia, Slovenia's biggest complaint was all the money that they had to pay to financially support the Kosovo Albanians. The Slovenians objected to paying welfare for Albanians, especially because Albanians weren't even Yugoslavs and many of them were even illegals, and I can't blame them for that. But as for "Slovenians concern for minorities", that's a joke, too. Slovenia is the most ethnically pure country of any in the region -- they have virtually no minorities at all -- especially on paper because they literally "erased all their minorities. Think I am kidding, I'm not. Here's but one of many stories about what Slovenia's "erased people".The crap Slovenia is giving Serbia about the Kosovo Albanians these days is coming straight from Slovenia's master, Germany. Slovenia's mouth may be moving but it's Germany's voice.

what a load of bull. how stupid do you think freepers are?

Do you mean the ones who are knowledgeable on the subject and are familiar with relevant material such as, say, Kucan's testimony at Milosevic's trial, or those who are ignorant and run off at the mouth about things they evidently know nothing about?

Step up to the plate - go ahead and expound upon the relationship between the revocation of Kosovo's autonomy, the Slovenian support rallies for Stari Trg's miners, and the blocked "Meeting of Truth" attempted by Milosevic in response, and *then* go ahead and explain yourself and your asinine question regarding stupid freepers in light of those seminal events.

Show me how stupid I should think freepers are.
