A Hard Loss for Romney (He's all but doomed now)

A Hard Loss for Romney By John Ellis

It's one thing to lose as you are. What you lose is an election, but there's always another election and in the case of presidential primary politics, a new electorate that awaits you in the next state. It's another thing to lose as you aren't. Mitt Romney was never the 700 Club right-winger his campaign managers conceived. He was and is a man of business and a very capable one at that.

He's all but doomed now. Senator John McCain will beat him in New Hampshire, probably by a lot, and Romney's media coverage will evaporate and his candidacy will consequently die. On January 9, his managers will walk in and say that the campaign needs $10 million or $15 million to continue and that he, Romney, will have to write the check. Everyone who would contribute has maxed out. Everyone who might won't. Two-time losers don't get new money. It's a basic rule of politics.

I know Fred’s views, even stood a few feet from him when Sean Hannity interviewed him here for his national TV show.

I live in the City of San Diego and 20 miles N. of the largest and busiest border crossing in the world.

There is no one candidate who has it locked up here.

Because San Diego is in the SW does not mean that is the type of people here.

Am also a ret. Legal Support Asst. with the County Attys
dealing with homicides, child abuse, and everything inbetween.

Huge European population, over 30,000 Iraqis, Huge East Coast population. Over one million Mexicans, etc.

Accross the street from me are over 600 people in sr. high rises, mostly from Russia and Europe.

So San Diego can’t be narrowed down.

I worked for Reagan in his first campaign for Gov. Saw him many times in person and when he was Pres. also spoke with him.

And the idea of a scientologist Reagan is ridiculous. He was a life-long Christian. That is part of what made him such a great President.

Pro-homosexual NEA endorsed Huckabee. Thos litmus tests wont matter because Huckabee is all about nanny-statism in so many other areas, the liberals will be in 7th heaven.

It’s all about gays and not about how Huckster was ranked 45 out of 50 on fiscal responsibility scale ... getting an F from Cato? As long as he’s pro-life and anti-gay, he can be a tax-and-spend John Edwards and a Jimmy Carter on foreign policy?

CLUSTERHUCKED.

So you are hoping for a McCain nomination.

Of course not. Out of the four candidates that appear to have a chance, I favor Huckabee. He is the only candidate I would trust of the four to keep a promise, the only social conservative in the group and only one I would trust to nominate judges to the courts.

Question: What is Mitt’s view on abortion? Answer: What office is he running for? [DoDoDreamer]

As NeoCaveman responded last night when I asked him the following question:

Me: ...why did he bother to write a letter to the editor of a Salt Lake newspaper, saying...? "I do not wish to be labeled pro-choice." [This, being in the midst of his pro-abortions years] (Source for quote: Mitt Romney, Letter to the Editor, The Salt Lake Tribune, 7/12/01)

NeoCaveman: Maybe he had pondered running for governor in Utah instead of in Sodom on the Puget Sound?

Are you really such a fool that you’d vote Carter over a Scientologist Reagan?

Are you really such a fool that you’d vote Carter over a Jewish version of Reagan?

Are you really such a fool that you’d vote Carter over a Mormon version of Reagan?

Name a single decision Reagan would make differently if he were a Mormon instead of evangelical.

Name a single decision Reagan would make differently if he were a Jew instead of evangelical.

Name a single decision Reagan would make differently if he were a Scientologist instead of evangelical.

You don’t get it. America wouldn’t even support or listen to a Scientologist. Reagan wouldn’t have been Reagan without Christ. Read his letters and his diaries.

“Of course not. Out of the four candidates that appear to have a chance, I favor Huckabee. “

Oh joy, you favor the least responsible, least ethical, least qualified, least electable, and most liberal of the top four.

Huckabee is not a conservative.

What a CLUSTERHUCK

Every few years it shows up again with different wording.

That's par for the course in Mormonism, isn't it?

You can take it as a slam by me on Governor Romney but it really isn’t.

Speaking only for myself:

If I was running in Utah I could be myself. If I was running in Massachusetts I’d have to work off the rough edges and make some status quo pledges on things I couldn’t change anyways if I wanted to get elected.

I didnt ask about America, who are overall far more religiously tolerant than you, I asked about you.

I asked what decisions Reagan would make differently if he were Jewish or Mormon. No answer.

Of course Reagan’s faith informed him, but that was through his values. Don’t Jews share those values? Don’t Mormons?

Are you really such a fool that you’d vote Carter over a Jewish or Mormon version of Reagan?
How come you can’t answer that question directly? What are you afraid of?

Besides, why should either of us give a rat’s patutie? Romney’s campaign is on the ropes and is likely just a shell after he loses New Hampshire. He’ll be irrelevant in a few days.

Pro-homosexual NEA endorsed Huckabee.

Yup. (glad ya mentioned that...another sign of weakness there)

Hey, if I had my druthers, it'd be another candidate starting with "H"--not Huck. But as Ol' Sparky just said, we've got to start to narrow our choices about who has a chance to win, & the "H" I was lookin' at only got 1% of the IA vote.

You see, unlike you, who seems to think everything about your fave candidate is to be defended to the teeth--including what they believe about their base voters--I don't. I think accountability is about holding everybody accountable, including mine & everybody else's "fave" candidates.

But you now seem to be wearing 2 different shoes--one on each foot. On the one foot you defend to the hilt Mitt & attack to the hilt Huck (think of a movie battleground track in the background). But on your other shoe you resort to this "we need to be unified" Republican brothers & adhere "to the GOP ideal" of hand-holding (think of Kum-ba-yah or elevator music in the background).

(I suggest you'd come across as a more "matching" dresser if you changed one of those shoes; 'cause right now, your shoes & background music both clash badly)

Of course Reagan’s faith informed him, but that was through his values.
_______________

Really? Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? Christ? Or just values? We have a fundamental disagreement here. My view is that Reagan as a believer was guided and protected by the Holy Spirit. He believed exactly that as well. He believed that he was saved by God for a special purpose in the assassination attempt.

“Yah. Huckabee didn’t show the ad. You never saw it. I never saw it.”
What was in the ads and the message was in multiple news reports. Which was the point of Huckabee’s ploy. Use free media instead of paid media to respond.

He is personable and even glib. That is true whatever one thinks beyond that. He also, while in the survice, performed well as a supply officer, whatever one says beyond that. As for the rest of what you say, that is why I asked. I am baffled by such a criticism of Governor Romney that then offers up Senator McCain as somehow different. I don’t see the difference and can even say that a comparison works in favor of the Governor, who, while coming to views that we can identify with late in the day, does not appear to be likely to go back on them, which is somewhat different than going back and forth. Flipping may be better than flipping and flopping. I will also concede that Senator McCain can be right about things as he was about the need to change the Iraq strategy to that advocated by General Petraeus and that he, as a former supply officer, has a good sense of logistics in warfare, which is very important. But I can’t see in any way that one would be against Romney for the reasons stated by the poster and instead back McCain who is at least no different and possibly worse on the points raised. I think it important that we examine these finer points instead of making blanket assertions.

Romney is actually in great shape right now.

SNORT!

Huckabee has had his moment - mostly media and Jesus-freak created.

Yah, calling Christians freaks is a great way to approach potential voters for Romney. Keep up the good work!

“we going to be stuck with Huckster and McCain?”

We are going to suck with Huckster and McCain.

Whatever drug it is that let’s you think Thompson still is in the race for real, pass it ‘round, reality is hurting too much.
