If there's no FRed and no Hunter and we're left with the four headless RINOs, then what?
January 10, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/10/2008 3:40:52 PM PST by Jim Robinson

The question was posed to me last night, if the only two conservatives in the race were to drop out, leaving the hapless RINOs Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee and McCain to ward off the Evil Witch of the East then, Jim, what do we do?

Well, I think four issues that most of us conservatives will agree on that are at the top or near the top of our priority lists are National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life should be considered. We can argue all day long on whether or not these guys are constitutionally minded, small government fiscal conservatives, and I don't believe any of them are, but we'll leave that for another day. Let's concentrate on National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life.

Well, I can see right off that that rules out Rudy, the draft dodging, gun grabbing, sanctuary city abortionist. At least the other three claim to be pro-life, although Romney has been a pro-choice abortionist for all of his elected history until he decided to run for president. I think Romney's pro choice, big government nanny state (RomneyCare) record gives him two big black eyes and should knock him out of any further consideration. That leaves Huckabee and McCain.

Now, all four of these guys are terrible on border security even though they're all claiming now to be border hawks. McCain led the charge for amnesty and the rest fell in line like dutiful RINO troopers. Can't really make a distinction among these guys on the border issue. All fail, though I think most conservatives would rank McCain at or near the bottom.

Guns. Rudy's definitely out. McCain's out. Romney's not much better. Guess Huckabee the big duck hunter outshoots the others in this category.

Rudy fails in all categories, McCain and Romney fail on guns, and all fail on borders. So I guess Huckabee has more to offer over the others at this point as he is at least pro-life and pro-gun.

Now comes national defense. Sorry, but I can't see the draft dodging, gun grabbing, gay loving, cross-dressing, illegal alien pandering abortion activist Rudy Giuliani as a very appealing or effective guy to head up our military, even if he did make some rousing anti-terrorist speeches on 9/11. The "gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military" Romney (no military or national security experience that I know of) doesn't give me goosebumps either.

So, again, we're down to Huckabee and McCain. Now you all know that I like Huckabee as he is a likable fellow, and I hate McCain, but wait. If the whole shebang is going to be decided on which of the still standing Republican wannabes should defend America from the terrorists and the surrendering Democrats, I think I'll have to go with McCain over Huckabee. At least McCain served in the military and has a whole lot more military and national security experience while serving on various committees in the senate than does Huckabee. Huckabee has none. And I doubt Huckabee can defeat Hillary. But then, McCain probably won't either, so guess that leaves plan B. Squat down, tuck your head down between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.

Here's praying that the only two all around consistently reliable conservatives hang in there and one of them gets the nod.

Go Hunter!! Go, FRed, GO!!

Pretty good. I say, if there are no conservatives left in the race after it’s all over, of these four headless horsemen, let McCain have it. That way we’ll all hate him equally and none of us will want to let him get away with any shenanigans and no one will complain about all the McCain bashing goin on on Free Republic. It’ll be a virtual McCain hate fest. And Hillary won’t be Commander-in-Chief.

People are losing their ability to think rationally in this thread.

Oh, it's much worse than that! People throughout this entire country are losing the ability to think rationally... /grin

We think RINOs are just as bad as Hillary! So WHAT is the big difference!?

Either option leads inexorably to the destruction of our nation - one just slightly less immediately than the other. From my perspective, about the only difference is that by continuing to vote for RINOS we are actually sanctioning and giving our stamp of approval to our own destruction.

In a life and death battle it is always better to be victorious and survive. If we cannot win, however, it is still far better to be defeated and slain in honorable combat than to submit and be forced to sign your own death warrant.

An honorable defeat at least leaves a chance for the next generation to be inspired and continue the fight, but a craven submission destroys that hope and extinguishes the very remembrance of the ideas and principles for which we strove.

Re Fred’s laundry list of positions...If my state voted before May and could still affect the nominee selection, I’d run off copies of Fred’s positions and hand them out on the corner, put them in libraries, tack them up on bulletin boards. Maybe adjust it a little to include where he differs from Huck and John. But keep it brief. Unfortunately, I think Mitt has a lock on my state, Idaho. On the south, anyway.

I think a vote for Huckabee would be a wasted vote. He can’t win.

I could hold my nose and vote for McCain.

I could hold my nose (while puking) and vote for Romney.

But I don’t see how I could vote for Guiliani.

Vote RINO and split our principles.

Not an easy choice, my FRiend.

You sum up the Conservative quandary very well. We can’t leave the troops stranded in war zones with the SurrenderRATS in charge of everything. I’d have to vote RINO split my principles..unfortunately.

I lived in Coeur d’Alene for many years. Idaho is definately a Republican state, however, turning very liberal in many ways because of the California transplants. Larry Craign is certainly not helping in any way either.

LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE! DON’T FORGET THE DEBATE TONIGHT!

That is a false argument that has been knocked down a thousand times.

There is nothing false about it. Nor could you knock down my argument even once, much less a thousand times. I shouldn't do your homework, but I will.

The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, signed into law by Ronald Reagen granted amnesty to illegals aliens. Please educate yourself by attempting to disprove this fact. When you do so, you'll be able to note that Reagan at least had the courage to call it what it was, amnesty.

BTW, My wife met at least a dozen different people at Reagans funeral arrival at his library that were there to pay there respects to him because Reagan made them Americans and they will always be grateful and thankful to him for giving them the greatest gift of all, U.S.A. citizenship.

This stupid arse BDS over Bush really needs to end. I am sick to death of the abject ignorance that has been on display over the past year or two here at FreeRepublic. I am stunned at the number of people who now possess BDS because of some issue.

If one was to compare real records, Bush will come out more Conservative that Reagan ever was.

OK, I don't doubt that you are. But what does it have to do with the choices given in Jim's question and the way I characterized them? I'm not understanding your point.

I guess I should have just answered you "yes" it is like we are going to die horribly. Although I did describe our choice to do it fast or be tortured slowly first. ; )

Jim, look at just about any political thread on FR and you will find, in some shape or form, this thought that we must elect someone who can defeat Hillary. This, plain and simple, is the reason why we are going to lose this election.

Most people around here use it as as some kind of prophetic threat, as in, "If we don't hold our nose and vote for so and so, Hillary will win," or "If we don't vote for the Republican nominee (however liberal they may be) we are voting for Hillary." These Freepers are letting their fear compromise their principles as they cling to their liberal/moderate nominees.

To paraphrase President Reagan, these people are hoping that some how, some way, someone is going to save them. The only way we can truly win is to take charge and save ourselves by standing up for our conservative principles and voting for the true conservatives in this race, Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter.

At this point in time, unless there is some major ephiphany among conservatives very soon, we are well on our way to losing this battle and fast coming to the point where there is nothing left to do but hunker down in the trenches, give first aid to the shell-shocked and wounded and try our hardest not to shoot the deserters because we might be able to pull them back into action for the next battle.
