In a time when many Americans, especially Republicans and other conservatives, talk about the current illegal immigration problem, many either dont realize or dont care that the only presidential candidate who has actually done something about securing the border is polling about 1 percent and, as a result, is being left out of the debates Duncan Hunter.
Congressman Hunter built the double-border fence along San Diego County, reducing illegal immigration by 90 percent and drug smuggling by 50 percent. He is also the author of the Secure Fence Act, which was passed into law last year.
Immigration is not his only strong asset, as Congressman Hunter is a veteran, former chairman of the Armed Services Committee and father of a son who served three tours in the War on Terror.
The GOP wants to tout itself as the party that is tough on terror and tough on illegal immigration, but the polling of someone with Duncan Hunters credentials and the lack of talk about him on conservative talk radio tell a completely different story.
If fighting terrorism and securing the border really are priorities of the GOP, then what credentials do Romney, Huckabee and Giuliani have?

BUMP!!
Yep; and propaganda movies about the guys from Hope and Georgia. I mean like who knew the man from Georgia was in love with our enemy and I am not even going to get into who or even what the man from Hope is.
Very good find and start. We need to know who is really backing who.
nope
That tells you something when you can have all kinds of deep arguments and discussions here on FR over the philosophies and track records of Giuliani, Huckabee, McCain, Thompson, Paul, Romney. So many objectionable things have arisen about all six of these men.
But when it comes to DUNCAN HUNTER, just about all they have is "He Cannot Win!"
What kind of country have we turned into? What kind of conservatives have we turned into?
I swear, sometimes I think those supposedly on The Right have balls made of marshmallows rather than steel. The MSM did a pretty good job, this year.
Maybe it is payback for "Buckhead" four years ago.
This is a Hunter thread, and I picked him and Thompson to support. However, the media is doing the same to both. However, in Thompson's case, the polls BEFORE he announced showed him beating all other candidates on both sides--hence the media put downs since he got in.
I guess in the instance of Hunter's campaign, it is difficult to hire the best people on a shoestring budget. Those heavy duty, scintillating, witty campaign flaks get big bucks. Boy am I glad McCain-Feingold got all that big money out of campaigns so everybody has a level playing field /s
vaudine
Don’t buy it.
>>>>Are we voting for personality or the man? LOL
A man, a personality, some issues, and the times.
If it were merely the issues, a candidate could run on well-crafted position papers.
Calvin Cooledge didn’t have a personality period. LOL
I thought they did.
You are right and the most repeated excuse for not voting for Hunter is they all like him; his positions; leadership ability; best candidate etc; yet they won’t vote for him????????
Hmmmmmmm
I am proud to say that I voted for Duncan Hunter yesterday...He certainly connects with me...
Face it...Hunter was black-balled by the media and the Republicans are led around like sheep by the media just as much as the Democrats are...
It is not merely the issues; it is the issues.
Hunter is finished.
His entire strategy is hopeing that everyone, INCLUDING RONPAUL, screws up and drops out before Feb 5.
not going to happen.
His best bet if immigration is important to him, is to find and endorsethe candidate who is the same or close to his own views.
Duncan Hunter is a great man and his positions on the issues are outstanding. One of his problems is that he’s a member of the House. Many people don’t regard that as being a big deal. They see it as representing only 1/435th of the country. Since the New Deal, people have viewed their representative as just someone to get local contracts and goodies for their district, not someone who deals with a broad range of national issues. Even a guy like Hunter who has always tackled tough issues and fought for the national interest is still seen as just a local politician from a small district.
Voters tend to prefer governors, because they’re perceived as having experience “governing” a region. Likewise, senators are seen as big time politicians who deal with “big” issues. Vice-Presidents, of course, are also seen as having been in the big leagues.
No House member in modern history has made any headway in a race for president. The closest possible example would be George Bush back in 1980. He made a good showing against Reagan in the GOP primaries, though ultimately Reagan pulled away and won. But in his case, Bush had vast foreign policy experience in the CIA, in China, etc., to supplement his brief House tenure. Gerald Ford, of course, doesn’t count since he became President via appoitment to the Vice-Presidency.
It is more than just that.
Thomson, not endorsing him, has been erased a few weeks ago. But he has managed to survive.
That is a one on one bus effort.
Hunter could have done the same, Hunter could have bypassed the MSM like Reagan.
Hunter did a FR web appearance.
It was just a cluless campaign.

John Cornyn(R) was a sponsor of RINO Kays totally irresponsible amendment that she inserted into the approved $555 billion Omnibus Spending Bill at the last minute. This was the fifth time RINO Kay tried to gut the SFA. This time she was successful hiding it in this huge both sides of the aisle pork-fest bill. Her and Cornyns action were of no surprise. Texas is a pro-illegal aliens State with its chief shepherd being Governor Rick Perry(R), and previously Governor George W. Bush(R). My born and raised City of Houston, Texas has been an illegal aliens sanctuary city since 1992.
