Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

Hunter definitely has some nanny state impulses. That was a negative that I was willing to look past but it could be why he likes Huckabee.

Tancredo was my first choice and he prefers Romney. The fence means nothing if you don’t punish employers and the illegal employers are Huckabee’s best friends. His Tyson Foods buddies should be fitted for orange jumpsuits.

after polls came out showing that 47% of people will vote against Romney.
Which polls are they?

“Among the leading Presidential candidates, New York Senator Hillary Clinton and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney have the highest level of core opposition among voters. Forty-seven percent (47%) say they will vote against each of these candidates no matter who else is on the ballot.”

Two slick politicians, both with liberal records, who both come across as condescending on TV.

They may have been “on the same page” on the issues about which they happened to SPEAK at the debates. Even the briefest look at their records, like Malkin’s, shows a dramatically different picture. But hey, you go on believing in ... that stuff you believe. Beats reality, perhaps.

Before I answer with the requisite Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, I will point out there is exactly one thing Hunter and Huckabee saw eye-to-eye on; the "Fair"Tax.

That having been said,...

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?!?!

I think he might be trying to figure out a way to blame Fox News or the “republican establishment” for this latest development.

I'm shocked.

Huchakbee has no record on China and, until this month, was a religious-Zealot on open borders.

I have lost respect for Hunter. Other candidates have flip flopped, but they didn't convert after the primaries began.

1. Fred will not endorse McCain.

2. If I'm wrong about that, my head will not explode. I wil simply decide, like I have with Hunter, that it was better that he didn't catch fire because we need a President who can tell the sheep from the wolves.

I can see why he did. I would say a lot of, if not most, Hunter and Thompson supporters have serious problems with each of the remaining candidates, and, if they don't plan on sitting it out, will simply vote for the one they find least objectionable.

Who that is depends on which issues are most important to them and which issues they're most willing to compromise on. That's not going to be the same for everyone.

My only conslusion is that he has no idea about Huck's record.

For a guy to make an endorsement without being aware of that candidate's record tells me that he wouldn't make much of a president. Makes me glad he's not in the race anymore.

I think this one hurt all the FR Hunter fans more than Thompson’s withdrawal hurt us Fredheads. Ouch.

I think you are dead on.

Lots of things are divisive issues. Picking Bork or Roberts for the Supreme Court were divisive.

I know you’re typing quickly, but it’s a hot-button with me when folks imply we should avoid doing what’s right, etc. because what’s right is unpopular. Who knows, maybe you’re right politically (that closing Gitmo could help teh GOP win a close race in 08, etc.), but it still bugs me.

Now that Huck has run out of evangelicals and Hunter has endorsed, this studly ticket may win the election in the Faulkland Islands. When in power they can try and get an NFL franchise. They’ll call it the Faulkland Islanders. lol.

I wouldn't vote for Huckabee again if God himself endorsed him.

a huck/hunter ticket? third party? huck is fading fast and hunter never caught on ... between them they don’t have enough strength/delegates to factor into a brokered convention.
