Thompson finance chair signs on with McCain (McC hopes to get endorsement from Fred)
Austin American Statesman ^ | Jan. 24, 2008 | Ken Herman

Posted on 01/26/2008 10:48:16 PM PST by FocusNexus

Scooter Clippard, who spent the past few months trying to get folks to open their wallet for Fred Thompson's ill-fated presidential campaign, now is dialing for dollars for John McCain.

Clippard, former national fundraising chairman for Thompson, is now national finance co-chair for McCain. The move came two days after Thompson shut down his campaign.

Says McCain, who hopes to get an endorsement from Thompson, "We are honored to have a key leader from my friend Fred Thompson's campaign. Fred made an invaluable contribution to this race and always enriched the discussion of ideas for America's future."

In your dreams, McCrazy.

Fred would never endorse McCrazy, their positions on the issues were way too much different.

They come from opposite ends of the GOP spectrum!

McCain won’t get Fred’s endorsement unless he first gets the GOP nomination.
Scooter needed a job though.
But if he brings the kind of fundraising skills he brought to the Thompson campaign to the McCain campaign, then the Mac might be out of money and out of the race sooner than we thought.

If Thompson endorses McCain then McCain must have pictures.

Several others from Thompson’s group went to help Romney already.

Yuck Foo, McCain.

I don’t begrudge this campaign guy who has a mortgage to pay.

While I’d vote for McAbee in the general, no WAY in the primary.

I hope Fred does not endorse McCain. That will be such a disappointment if he does. I can’t imagine that he would, but then who would have thought Duncan would have endorsed Huckabee? No FRed No!!

I truly wish there was a way Fred and Mitt could hook up. Perhaps Fred could be persuaded to be VP. I know he has said all along he was not interested. From watching the debates, you could tell that Mitt had a lot of respect for Fred. That’s one of the reasons I’ve decided I’ll be voting for Mitt now.

I thought one of the reason Thompson was hesitant in running for president was because McCain is a friend of his? So endorsing him now would not surprise me.

Didn't Thompson endorse McCain in McCain's earlier run for president? I am thinking he did?

Last week, before Thompson pulled out, Rush made the example of why he wasn’t going to endorse anyone in the primary, saying that for instance, he could endorse Thompson and the Thompson could pull out and endorse McCain, and then where would I be?

If, Fred loses his mind and actually endorses mcloon, I will have lost all hope for the country.

That would be a betrayal of everything he professed to hold dear. In essence, a repudiation of conservative ideals and principles.

Regardless, mcloon will never be my president.

Don’t worry, Fred will not endorse McCain during the primaries.
He is no Duncan Hunter.
He has way more class and self-respect than that.

And worked ever so closely with him on the McCain-Feingold-Thompson bill.
