Thompson finance chair signs on with McCain (McC hopes to get endorsement from Fred)
Austin American Statesman ^ | Jan. 24, 2008 | Ken Herman

Scooter Clippard, who spent the past few months trying to get folks to open their wallet for Fred Thompson's ill-fated presidential campaign, now is dialing for dollars for John McCain.

Clippard, former national fundraising chairman for Thompson, is now national finance co-chair for McCain. The move came two days after Thompson shut down his campaign.

Says McCain, who hopes to get an endorsement from Thompson, "We are honored to have a key leader from my friend Fred Thompson's campaign. Fred made an invaluable contribution to this race and always enriched the discussion of ideas for America's future."

And worked ever so closely with him on the McCain-Feingold-Thompson bill.

That, he did, because he was sick of the corruption of the Democrats and some Republicans when it came to financing political campaigns. He knew that the individual voter was being edged out by the big money people, and he wanted campaigns to go back to relying more on the voters, so they'd be accountable to them.

Is Keyes still in the race?

Huh. Go figure.

It’s spelled Keyes.

And he has a passion for this country and its founding principles that NO other political figure in this country even comes close to. It’s genuine, and it’s deep.

Tepid RINOs ain’t gonna cut it, unless you want another decade or more of the destruction of this country.

Wake up, before it’s too late.

No — it’s more like proof that the Fred Thompson candidacy was never about Fred, but about helping McCain.

Oh, really? Then why is McCain beginning to stumble, now that Fred is out?

That may be true but McCain-Feingold was a vast over kill.

With thinking like that, there never would have been a Revolution. “Ah hell, the Brits are gonna win anyway...”

Keyes is a dynamic guy and certainly says the right things, but he comes off as only marginally sane.

I’m pondering if who we eventually put up can beat Obama.

I feel he will win the nomination.

We can have a month-long block party - Her Thighness is Finally dead!

But then we have to actually beat Barack. Think we can do it?

Excellent post!

McCain has been a real stinker since he lost in 2000.
Huckabee received votes that would have gone to Fred.

If Fred were going to endorse a candidate in the primaries,
he would have done so already.

Just a reiteration of your excellent post. ;o)

Fine. Explain to me how any one of these other candidates is superior to Alan. Show me how any one of them but him is in agreement with anything you’ve ever said you stand for. Then tell me why it isn’t “sheer nonsense” for anyone who agrees with your stated principles to vote for anyone but Keyes.

Sheesh Jim, he’s on the ballot, and he’s the best candidate. By far.

yeah that whole Chuck Norris bit in the debates and that very odd moment when McLame was sucking up to Rudy. That was really bizarre!

He still had a chance, if he had “hit the ground running” when he got in, but he didn’t do that either. He hardly campaigned, did just enough to help McCain win in S. Carolina, than he gave up. I personally don’t like being played for a sucker, I don’t know about the rest of you.

You have been suckered, but it wasn't by Fred. You're still repeating the MSM talking points about Fred's campaign. He DID hit the ground running, visiting many states before the Primaries got started. You could be forgiven for not knowing it, if you only relied on the MSM for that information. But if you were a Fred supporter, you could have accessed his website, and you'd have seen just where he had been and where he was going, at any time.

As for the timing of his campaign, I don't see how gettting in July would have been any better than entering the race in September. It was shown that many voters in IA and in SC were still undecided in the week just preceeding their primaries, so that two months wouldn't have made any appreciable difference for Fred. We who supported him were happy to wait for his entry, and the fact that he waited in order to honor his professional obligations, only reinforced our respect for him.

I’ve never met anyone smarter than Alan Keyes, or more cogent, or more committed to the American creed and our form of government. Never known of anyone who understands it better.

You, I know nothing about except your posts on this thread.
