Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008

SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.

The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.

McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.

Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.

Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.

Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

I think its time to stop the Ron Paul bashing...and focus on stopping McAztlan.

I can think of nothing more horrible than the American Hermann Goring winning the GOP nod. Yeeech

McCain will never be tough on illegal immigration.

The GOP and Democrats are just as much to blame for the illegal mess as McInsane.

W has virtually stopped fining employers who hire illegals.

National identity card legislation, which could solve the illegal problem overnight, has been deep sixed by both parties.

As I asked above, tell me why I, or anyone else, should?

Tell me something new

As I watched Guiliani endorse McQueeg at the Reagan Library, of all places, I was struck by the absolute desecration of such a sacred conservative venue as The Gipper’s own Library in hosting an event where a Democrat, Rudy, endorses a faux Republican, as the Republican nominee for President.

If God would allow him to, Reagan would have struck the place with a bolt of lightning.

I have prayed that McQueeg loses his cool in the debate tonight, so we can see the real maverick in action. I did not start out a Romney fan, but I have never trusted McCain.

I’m pulling for Romney now. I’d rather have a recent conservative convert than a lying, amnesty loving, free speech loving, Gang of 14 globaloneyist loving SwiftBoat Vets hating creep as President.

Yes. The usual media buzz on this debate has been strangely silent. Have you noticed that?

Most likely a manifestation of bias for McCain. They desire to milk that McCain Florida win for as long as they can.

I’m sorry to feel compelled to say this, but tonights debate will seem like a Hillary vs Gore debate to me.

I am embarassed to be a part of a party that couldn’t do better than this.

Awwwww.... Romney is like David vs. Goliath tonight, imo.
How ironic this all happens next to Reagan’s burial place.

My prediction is that Romney grabs McCain and does a pile-driver move, McCain does a figure-four leg-lock on Romney and Ron Paul will grab a steel chair and try to knock them over the head. Opps...my bad...pro wrestling was last night.

Romney needs to stay light on his feet because of the possible double-team of Huckabee watching McCain's back. ;-)
