Dominique Samuels is easy to check on. There are several stories about her on the net.
She didn't disappear without a trace. She wasn't listed as a missing person. The first sign anything was amiss with her was when her body was found; the circumstances were not photogenic (an understatement).
About 15 years ago, a female student "of color" from a city near my home disappeared while she was at college (the college in question is also nearby). She was missing for several months. Her story, name, and picture were on the news every night during that time. The college she attended offered a substantial reward for information about her fate.
Her remains were eventually found in a basement in a seedy part of the city. The details were extremely graphic and revolting; think Jeffrey Dahmer.
The perpetrator was caught soon after her body was found. He was also "of color," and had a long history of -- shall we say -- problems.
The story quickly disappeared from the local news. Do you think it disappeared because of racism? Or do you think it would have been racism for local media to keep the story alive? To do so would have meant putting nice big pictures of her killer on local TV every night.
Do the majority of killers of women of color themselves share any particular racial characteristics? Are most of them rich white playboys from wealthy European countries? Or do they (the killers) come from other ethnic communities? Communities whose local leaders are not anxious for wall-to-wall mass media coverage of their sorrows.

This is a racist statement if I ever saw one. Obviously this person must not read or see as there have been many of all races represented. I’ll only agree that for some reason Natalie coverage has been ridiculously large. I’m so sick of it that I change channels whenever her disappearance comes up.

This is America! Broadcasters are free to broadcast pretty much what they wish and there is a channel selector for the people’s. I see no reason to change either. There is a channel called BET(Black Entertainment Television) Maybe they should start covering all the missing black women?

If you go to America’s Most Wanted and search missing person’s by region on the map, you will find approximately seven African American Women missing in the United States.

My wife calls FoxNews “The Missing White Chick Channel”. Night after night Gretta has nothing on but missing white chicks, followed by other hosts having nothing but that as well.
Actually, pretty colored girls get pretty good Press coverage, too. Ugly girls of any color just don't get the Press one might hope for.

And the media wouldn't be able to hide the fact that crimes perpetrated on black women and children are almost always committed by black males. That doesn't fit the Liberal paradigm, so those crimes seldom get much airtime.
Oh I see, black folk should concern themselves with black folk and whites with whites. Is this the "separate but equal doctrine" brought to broadcasting? Wow what a helpful tool for those who wish to assuage their conscience with the "well they got thier own" defense.
You might continue advocating this position. After all it was pretty much law of the land until the 1960's and who knows it might make a come back. They got their own colleges why are they trying to go to ours, they got their own churches why are they showing up here, they got their own soda shops ... etc...
To pervert a phrase: You might be a racist if "they got their own" comes to mind when some raises an issue with equal treatment of blacks in the broader culture.
No one said anything about changing free speech, the comment was simply about the ratings driven media's racial bias. But hey see above paragraph. Yes, I am naming you a racist.
Why are we surprised that incidents like this happen? What can you expect when you have a culture that:
1. Allows teens to travel, sometimes completely unsupervised, to ‘romantic’ third world countries which have little or no interest in the welfare of their teen tourists.
2. Parents who submit to pressure from their teens to travel tours like this.
3. The prevalence of teen—and young people in their 20s— drinking culture that glorifies drinking “shots” and other ways of drinking until reaching levels of drunkenness that lower inhibitions and may reach lethal levels.
Inevitably you are going to have some deaths, some ‘girls gone wild’ and some serious shame at their antics when they sober up.
You can feel for their parents, but with a caveat that their lack parenting contribute to all these outcomes.

Counterpoint: Name one black women who has disappeared in an exotic locale, on a class trip. It’s not about color. It’s about the prurient appeal. I am as disgusted about salacious coverage as anyone, but it is not about color.
You need to get a life! I was merely answering the complaint as to why only missing white women were in the news. But since you bring it up there is no WET( White Entertainment Television).
I agree, good point. A great many factors go into elevating a straightforward disappearance into a national media circus, far more facets than the reductionistic view of race alone.
You may not like this, but here it goes. An ASIAN cab driver recently told me that ALL men like white women.
