Don't underestimate McCain

WASHINGTON — The continuing drama of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination should not diminish what John McCain has accomplished on the Republican side of this campaign.

The senator from Arizona still has to finish off the challenges from Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, but after Tuesday's victories in such key states as California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Missouri, and a commanding lead in delegates, the question is when, not if, he will secure the nomination.

What is more, he has emerged — despite all the negatives of the George Bush legacy — as a serious possibility to win the presidency in November.

On Super Tuesday, I placed calls to knowledgeable Republicans, Democrats and neutral observers to check their appraisals of McCain as a general-election candidate.

Arizona's Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano, who sees her home-state senator at close range, said, "He is not to be underestimated." An Obama supporter, Napolitano said McCain is "a gifted campaigner with a great life story. When everything seemed to go wrong for him last year, I told people, 'Never write John McCain off.' "

I don’t underestimate McCain. He’s got the nerve to have Lieberman as his running mate and make amnesty his first priority when elected.

I’ll never vote for the proven open borders traitor Shamnesty McCain.

No more, “drink the RINO arsenic, it’ll kill you more slowly than the ‘Rat cyanide.”

I won’t lift the cup of hemlock to my own lips with my own hands.

I have a couple of lib friends that would vote for McCain over Hillary. They don't want a return to the Clinton crap.

Not sure if this sample would equate to the quality polling done by Zogby, but that's the result of my long and exhausting research.

I don't. He's a dangerous mental case being forced on us by the media...under the guise of a "war hero"...who are in bed with Soros, who is hell bent on destroying this country.

“Don’t underestimate McCain”

Not much chance of that, I’m afraid.

A couple I'm friends with told me Sunday they've always voted Democrat but were voting for McCain this time around.

The fact that McCain can draw liberals to vote for a Republican doesn't impress me.

Not one bit.

That's exactly what you are doing if you give the election to the democrats. I hear the constant refrain that RINOs are killing the Republican Party but, IMO, it is conservatives who are to blame...we elected people like Newt, Tom Delay, Larry Craig and got paid back with embarassing scandals. We elected others and were paid back with pork barrel deficits that President Bush gladly signed...the lone two achievements of this administration and "conservatives" have been Roberts and Alito NOTHING ELSE! At least McCain gives us a chance to clean up the mess left behind--a victory in Iraq and the WOGT!

We won't, but there are plenty who will attempt to force it down our throats.

There just may be a few surprises in store for some. Starting with 2006 in spades.

McCain can actually win California, just like Arnold did. Hispanics and Asians make up a huge part of the electorate and they don’t like Obama.

"McCain can actually win California..."

Nope. Once he has the nomination locked up, the media is going to KILL this guy. This is a huge "rope a dope" on their part.
