Tuning out Rush Limbaugh
The Guardian(UK) ^ | February 6, 2008 | Niall Stanage

Posted on 02/07/2008 7:06:49 AM PST by Dane

In mid-January, talk show host Rush Limbaugh told his 13 million listeners: "If either of these two guys get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican party. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren't going to vote. You watch." Those of us who watched last night only saw Republicans favouring the two alleged destroyers over Romney, whom Limbaugh consistently favours.

Snip

The irony in all of this is that McCain actually is a staunch conservative on many issues, including abortion, and is not above the occasional pander to the hard-right himself. (Last year, he seemed to back off harsh criticisms he made of religious right leaders during his 2000 presidential bid, for example.) But his strong performance yesterday indicates that grassroots Republicans are, in fact, willing to tolerate his departures from party orthodoxy. They continue to admire his heroism as a POW during the Vietnam war. And they still seem him as the most electable candidate in a general election.

“I find it refreshing that Limbaugh is making good on what he’s told his listeners for decades: He’s not a Republican... He’s a conservative.”

I do too!

Many are finding out their really NOT conservatives and this is hurting their little feelings. It’s no wonder they back other juveniles, McCain with the temper problem and the Huckster with the truth problem.

Won’t vote for either of them under ANY conditions.

Let the Demoncrats have the WH. Like the disaster Carter, it’ll be ONE term and then even the dumbest of the dumb will vote Republican for a REAL conservative.

Right on! Right on! Conservatives are suppose to act like good sheeple while being thrown under the bus by the party.

Thanks. So do I.

We have to look back over the last 10 years to see what has happened.

“You mean they care so much that they’d be willing to have Hillary Clinton appoint as many as six new Supreme Court Justices? They’d be willing to see Barack Obama pull our troops out of Iraq, thereby squandering the sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform?”

Some of us are principled and some of are Democrats.

If that’s what it takes to WAKE PEOPLE UP -

so be it!

McCain is no better than Hitlery or the Obomination.

WoW. It appears the media's attempts to quiet Rush's influence with his listeners has gone international! Like we care what Britian thinks? This article was a twofer - slam talk radio and Romney. From Tuning out Rush Limbaugh :

The candidate of the conservative political establishment saw his hopes of winning the Republican nomination expire yesterday.

Mitt Romney's poor showing in the Super Tuesday contests is a welcome development. It demonstrates that the GOP's grassroots supporters - always more sophisticated political animals than liberal caricatures are prone to suggest - are willing to stand up to the hectoring bullies of talk radio and the right-wing political world.

McCain is Bob Dole Part II.

We will lose this election just as we lost that one - by choosing a doddering old fool that the dims will tear apart limb from limb.

Sometimes it seems like the GOP actually wants to lose elections.

Look at how the Huckster justifies thumbing his nose at our LAWS on THE BOOKS NOW! He twists the “Golden Rule” to fit his self serving agenda - not at all Christan.

Yep...he and McCain are birds of a feather!

McCain will get us to the SAME DESTINATION

at a SLOWER pace. The end result will be the same.

"Under English law, people may devise their own way to settle a dispute in front of an agreed third party as long as both sides agree to the process. Muslim Sharia courts and the Jewish Beth Din which already exist in the UK come into this category."

The “electability” myth is deeply set, even in a place like this.

"Conservatives care about the United States so much ... that they're willing to DEFEAT McCain to save the nation!!!

And they are foolish enough to think that electing a Radical Leftist to the Presidency will save the United States?

They'll never get the U.S. back. The Radicals will change it forever. They have said so. Believe them.

Only fools did not believe that Hitler meant what he said.

The American people might be able to undo the damage done by a RINO.

The damage done by a Radical Leftist will be permanent. They intend for it to be.

If the Democrats get elected, it's going to destroy the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA as we have known it and our forefathers created it. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. You watch.

Oh please. Enough of the hysteria. We survived 8 years of Bill Clinton. 4 years of Jimma Carta. We'll survive whatever politician is in the White House.

“Yep...he and McCain are birds of a feather!”

The people claiming to be “conservatives” are so da** stupid they don’t see it.

It makes NO DIFFERENCE if McCain gets the WH or Hitlery and the Obomination! It doesn’t matter. ALL OF THEM will get us to the SAME destination. The ONLY difference is the SPEED on how we get there.

It’s time people made a stand and STOPPED THIS - and stop this silly compromising on PRINCIPLE. You don’t see Demoncrats compromising on PRINICPLE. NO, they know the Republicans WILL. I will NOT bend over for Republicans that are really Deomcrats. Heck they’re SITTING with them - there’s no “out reach” going on!

It is more important to save the U.S.A. than to save the Republican Party. We can do the former without doing the latter, but we cannot do the converse.

We survived 8 years of Clinton...we can survive 4 more. The hysteria associated with "we must follow" the Republican candidate is absurd. What are we, sheep?

The analogy that comes closest to justifying stiffing McCain in November is what’s known as “tough love.” It’s usually instituted by adults in the case of children whose whose decisions propel them toward self-destruction.

So, too, is the country on the road to implosion through poor lifestyle decisions crafted by “caring liberals,” which have had the effect of creating a nation of liberal program addicts.

McCain is not the solution. He is a continuation of the problem, for whatever his motives may be, whether self-absorption, megalomania, or simply blackmail going back to the Hanoi days.

Like any lifetime addict, the country needs to hit rock bottom before being able to admit having a problem. Like hillary and obama, McCain is the latest vehicle to transport us down that highway.

We don’t need the likes of the guardian to define our terms, whether they are “conservative,” or “problem.” Conservatives, true conservatives, are the adults in this equation, and will provide for themselves as they have always done, notwithstanding all pretenders trying to infiltrate our ranks, or, like the guardian doofus, trying to tell us how we need to think.

That said, the british doofus writing the article needs to acknowledge that conservatives have decided the election outcome, not by voting, as he fantasizes, but by withholding their votes in an act of tough love. Let him put that in his dentifrice and continue rotting his teeth.
