I am not convinced a VP selection helps in the general election. The problem is every positive is usually balanced by another negative.
I hope Senator McCain chooses to pick a person for VP who would make a great President. This is his first job, and in some ways, the most important. Especially so considering his age.

It was completely unnecessary since McCain is going to win the nomination anyway.

I agree. Fear instead of core values is what has caused many of us to vote they we've been voting for a few years and now look where it's gotten us.
