The Most Successful President the Press Ever Destroyed
Letters to the Editor | 2/15/08 | HMV

Posted on 02/15/2008 8:20:03 AM PST by Hillary'sMoralVoid

George W. Bush may go down in history as the most successful president the media has ever destroyed. Virtually everything that he has sought to accomplish, with perhaps the exception of immigration reform, has gone his way, whether its the No Child Left Behind Act, Prescription Benefits for the Elderly, Tax Cuts, or the conduct of the war in Iraq.

What's remarkable is that his successes continue despite the Democrats controlling both the House and the Senate. The most recent passage of a measure by the Senate to give President Bush exactly what he has wanted in terms of domestic spying against terrorists, and the failure of every single Democrat amendment to place limits on it, is but the latest example.

Maybe the Democrats are right, Bush is the most incompetent, out-of-touch president un U. S. history. If that is so, then what does that make them?

Yep, I agree with all of these ‘Failures’ and more. I completely broke when he gave the Medal of Freedom to Bremer and tenet I knew then that it was all loyalty far, far out in front of competence and I just shut down on him.

He is hardly innocent in this. He has done some wopper wrong things. He will go down in history as a pretty decent president I believe.

You forget - the media hated him and would not allow him coverage.

He gave weekly radio talks - did you listen.
He gave press conferences - did you listen.

The media twisted what he said, ignored him and printed out and out lies.

An example is the Iraq War. Remember all the lies when the media wanted us to leave. Remember the silence when the surge was working. Remember the soldiers realizing home was not reporting their successes?

The media is to blame for any communication problems. If you could not understand a George Bush who spoke in simple words - you could not understand anybody.

"I think there’s going to be a good market for my “I Miss Bush” bumper stickers."

I think you're right, but only because things are going to continue getting worse in America no matter who is in the WH. There isn't a one of them, (candidates), who wants to bring America back to what she once was. They are all globalists who want to drown American culture, Christian tradition and the economy in a sea of globalism and multiculturalism.

Him and MCain were going to give retroactive benefits to illegals, including SS savings accounts, paid for by raising the cap on social security on americans(Bush said the cap was on the table.)

People like you destroyed the party - Bush did not have a thing to do with it.

You “teach the GOP a lesson” guys brought us this election and a democrat congress. You brought us McCain, Hillary and Obama.

You are responsible for destroying the GOP - and you will always do that.

All you want to do is complain.

Those who criticize Bush for making compromises in this political climate are ignorant of the alternative.

Bump that.

I noted that it's just a letter to the editor, not an editorial. We had one similar to that, and the liberals on board trashed Bush up one side and down the other. As usual.

He has been a disappointment in some ways, but I don't see his presidency as failed.

I can't track all the details of all the goings on, but I don't know why they want to hang Miers and Bolten from a flagpole. That is so ugly. Look what the last administration go away with.

I think it was a bit of both. The press definitely tried to avoid covering him, or if they had to, they ridiculed him and put the most negative slant on everything.

But at the same time, he doesn’t come across enormously well on TV or radio. He’s great in person, though, and I have seen him give positively inspiring talks to groups of people (live real people, not studio personnel or journalists).

I also think he lost a bit of his nerve after so many years of hostile coverage, and to some extent did withdraw from the public eye. I can’t say I blame him, and he probably thought his policies had a better chance if he wasn’t out there as a lightning rod, but at the same time, I don’t think he was very effective in explaining or defending some things that were actually quite successful (but portrayed negatively by the press).

“A president with all his successes and you come up with “communicate”.
I would bet you are from the east, feel superior to all mere Texans and jumped on the “he’s stupid” bandwagon.”

You did not post this to me but I will jump in. I believe the poster was being polite. Are you kidding me? Please the guy cannot communicate and if you think he can than perhaps you are as bad as he is. Communication skills are a 100 percent failure and most here would agree with me. The poster probably did not want to add CFR, no child left behind, middle east disaster (not Iraq), spending like it is his money, Supreme Court picks that were turned down, port disaster...need I go on? It is one thing to be proud of Texas but it is another thing to be truthful...they SHOULD go hand in hand.

Toppling the Taliban government in Afghanistan and replacing it with one more friendly to the U.S. required winning over Pakistan and using mostly armed surrogates (Northern Alliance). Part of stabilizing the region required developing a whole new U.S. relationship with India which has succeeded.

In November when I was putting Halloween decorations back in the attic I found a newspaper I saved from long ago that I forgot all about.

Tacoma News Tribune
December 20, 1998

Headline: CLINTON IMPEACHED

If that wasn’t amusing enough to read again after all these years, now with his wife running, I notice a story at the bottom on the very same front page that must be read:

U.S. and Britain halt airstrikes against Iraq
Sub-headline, Citing ‘significant damage’, Clinton says Saddam must be ousted to avoid future threats.

BAGHDAD, Iraq – President Clinton ended the air campaign against Iraq on Saturday saying: “I’m confident we have achieved our mission.” Yet despite suffering more than 400 punishing bomb and missile strikes over four nights, Saddam Hussein’s government remained defiant and said it would bar any return of U.N. arms inspectors to the country.
SNIP
In blunt language, Clinton called for the ouster of the Iraqi leader. “So long as Saddam remains in power, he will remain a threat to his people, his region and the World.” Clinton said.
SNIP

So lets look at just how much of a ‘continued threat’ Saddam really was AFTER Clinton made the above statement. This is just a partial list of the times Iraq fired at American and British aircraft patrolling the Northern No Fly Zone during Operation Northern Watch. Most of the data was not available, like the entire year of 2000. The list also does not include other violations, such as locking air defense radar onto Coalition aircraft, nor does it include the violations in the Southern No Fly Zone, which had an even longer list of violations and firings than in the North. If all the violations were included, the list would be much much much longer.

So with all of these documented attacks on our aircraft patrolling the Northern No-Fly Zone AFTER Clinton said “Saddam must be ousted”, WHY IS BUSH AND CHENEY BEING PERSECUTED FOR DOING JUST THAT?

Iraqi Firings : Since 2000, Iraqi forces have fired on U.S. and British pilots 1,600 times. In 2002, Iraqi forces fired on U.S. and British pilots 406 times. Since September 18, just hours after Saddam promised to “allow the return of the United Nations inspectors without conditions” and expressed his desire “to remove any doubts that Iraq still possesses weapons of mass destruction,” Iraqi forces have fired on U.S. and British pilots 67 times.

Again, this is only a Partial list. I also highlighted other important events……

20 Dec 1998 President Bill Clinton says Saddam must be ousted.
28 Dec 1998 Coalition aircraft were attacked by Iraqi surface-to-air missiles
13 Jan 1999 SAM systems track and fire on coalition aircraft
25 Jan 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to surface to air missile launch
28 Jan 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to Iraqi AAA fire
11 Feb 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to Iraqi AAA fire
12 Feb 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to Iraqi AAA fire
15 Feb 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to Iraqi AAA fire
1 Mar 1999 Iraq fires anti-aircraft artillery at coalition aircraft
6 Mar 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to Iraqi AAA fire
14 Mar 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to Iraqi AAA fire
25 May 1999 Coalition aircraft respond to Iraqi AAA fire
12 Oct 2000 USS COLE ATTACKED
Year 2000 I’m missing details for the year 2000 attacks on coalition aircraft. It was by far the worse year with over 1000 attacks on our aircraft. See the Iraqi Firings note above.
20 Jan 2001 BUSH INAUGURATION
24 Jan 2001 Iraqi missiles and AAA fired on ONW aircraft
12 Feb 2001 ONW aircraft fired upon and targeted by radar

14 June 2001 ONW aircraft respond to targeting radar and AAA
7 Aug 2001 ONW aircraft fired upon and targeted by radar
27 Aug 2001 ONW aircraft fired upon, coalition responds
4 Sep 2001 Iraqi fire AAA at and radar targets ONW aircraft
11 Sep 2001 AMERICA ATTACKED
7 Oct 2001 WAR IN AFGHANISTAN BIGINS.
4 Feb 2002 Iraqi fires AAA at ONW aircraft
28 Feb 2002 ONW aircraft fired upon and targeted by radar
1 May 2002 Iraq fires AAA at Northern Watch Aircraft

4 July 2002 ONW aircraft threatened, coalition responds
22 Oct 2002 Iraq fires AAA at ONW aircraft
30 Oct 2002 ONW aircraft defend against Iraqi anti-aircraft threat
17 Nov 2002 Iraq attacks ONW aircraft monitoring No-Fly zone
18 Nov 2002 Iraq attacks ONW aircraft monitoring No-Fly zone
28 Nov 2002 Iraq attacks ONW aircraft monitoring No-Fly zone
2 Dec 2002 Iraq attacks ONW aircraft monitoring No-Fly zone

RE “People like you destroyed the party - Bush did not have a thing to do with it.”

Brilliant, Bush is head of the party but has nothing to do with it. He had nothing to do with his 2007 claiming democrats winning has positives because now (2007) he can cut a deal with democrats for amnesty and SS for illegals. We were all supposed to say “Hey, go with Pelosi on amnesty, for the PARTY”
