McCain to offer up a Rice Prez

U.S Elections 2008

By Nigel Nelson

Presidential wannabe John McCain is poised to ask US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to be his running mate - in a bid to see off Barack Obama.

Republican McCain believes Afro-American Condi could be his secret weapon now Obama looks most likely to become Democrat candidate.

And political pundits believe a McCain-Rice ticket would be unbeatable.

Washington columnist Nicholas von Hoffman said: "She is pure political gold. The woman is tough, fast on her feet and able to give better than she gets."

Polls say Obama would whip McCain by 50 per cent if they went head to head now.

The Republican is expected to win the backing of former President George Bush Snr tomorrow.

Meanwhile Obama's weakened rival for the Democrat candidacy, Hillary Clinton, is trying to appeal to middleclass and Latino voters ahead of the primaries in Wisconsin, Ohio and Texas.

Wow, I’d heard this rumor but whatevered it.

Looks like TPTB are serious about at least four more years of hardass Middle East transmogrification.

Condi is accomplished and staminaed.

We can’t hang on her the albatross of the traitorous State Dept., we don’t know the backroom stuff, and at any rate, recent dealings in the ME, we need all hands on deck.

I have some misgivings, but I trust her.

Plus, figure the Obama voters that will defect when Her Thighness steals the nomination from Obama.

Got Black? Yes, indeed we do.

The John McCain track record on judges should disqualify him from consideration on that point.

The guy voted for Ginsberg and Breyer, for Pete's sake.

Absolutely! I would consider it an affront if my race or gender was the reason for me being a choice. I would like to think that is something liberal and moderates would do or think, and not conservatives. Actually I would vote for McCain before I would Rice. At least we know what he has done and likely will do. I have no idea what she has done or would do. I suspect she is far from a conservative. What I have seen of late causes me to suspect there are few conservative left, even on this forum.

“The guy voted for Ginsberg and Breyer, for Pete’s sake.”

The Senate then approved Ginsburg’s nomination by a vote of 96 to 3.

Breyer was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 87-9 on July 29, 1994.

Condoleeza Rice is an awful Secretary of State. She might be OK as VP just so long as McCain doesn’t keel over.

I would look somewhere else. Condi is kind of ridiculous

Condie Rics as a VP?

The dude is off his meds.

She may be well educated, she may well be the smartest woman in America, but...

She is a faliure as a manager (State dept is a mess)
She is no politician
Does not seem to see the obvious in world realPolitik
and has made no friends for the US of A.

She has little -if any - cred with the average American.

Bzzzzt - wrong. Try again.

Condi is pro-choice. If she is on the ticket, kiss good-bye to the social conservatives this fall.

The only time she expressed her opinion about abortion she said “mildly pro-choice”. If she explains it tactfully then she won’t have any problems. One way is to say that until there is infrastructure to handle the extra babies that it is pointless to ban abortion. The pro-life movement needs to hear that more from the politicians. She can also say that she supports many restrictions on abortion such as parental notification and many others which sometimes get struck down by the courts. She could also talk about Roe vs Wade was probably badly decided. Even if she doesn’t believe that, she can at least point to the polarizing politics that came out of it.

What in the world is “mildly pro-choice”?

Look, I admit that I totally disagree with her on her approach to middle eastern affair, but that being said, I do think she is a very intelligent woman. Too intelligent to associate herself with the likes of McCain. I bet even if he asks her she will pass.

Two, I think, honestly, that her star has really faded during W’s second term.

It has, but she's a good, smart speaker. She could drum up support quickly I believe.

Soooo, is there any source for this, or is it a "my buddies are speculating..." kind of thing? And then there's this...

Polls say Obama would whip McCain by 50 per cent if they went head to head now.

Umm, what? Terrible wording. I assume this means there's a poll out saying Obama 60% to McCain 40% since 60 is 150% of 40, and not 75%-25%.

Janice Rogers Brown and maybe we can talk..

Janice Rogers Brown on the Supreme Court. She just didn't have enough high court experience during the last round of nominations. Now she has been on the D.C. circuit and her next step is SCOTUS.

Maybe having Condi Rice as VP would help get Janice Rogers Brown on SCOTUS.
