WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan formally denounced on Thursday the Tennessee Republican Party's use of Barack Obama's full name in a recent news release questioning the Illinois senator's commitment to Israel.
"The RNC rejects these kinds of campaign tactics," Duncan said in a statement. "We believe this election needs to be about the critical issues confronting our nation."
The statement in question, which was released Monday, said the state party is joining a "growing chorus of Americans concerned about the future of the nation of Israel ... if Sen. Barack Hussein Obama is elected president of the United States."
It also included a photograph of Obama from a 2006 trip to Kenya, in which he is dressed in traditional attire.
The news release was sparked by recent praise for the senator from Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan, who has made derogatory remarks about Judaism and has indicated his support for Obama.
At Tuesday night's MSNBC debate, Obama said he denounced those comments and did not seek Farrakhan's support.
On Wednesday night, the party removed both the photo and the reference of "Hussein" from the statement after Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander called to express his belief that using them had become a distraction, Tennessee GOP Communications Director Bill Hobbs said.

Be exposed to whom? The majority voters that are idiots? The Oprah watchers and American Idol worshippers? The Leno/Letterman geniuses? The Daily Show stoners?
And what makes you think this expose will turn of the indocrinated masses that believe in the government to solve all of thier problems from global warming to wiping the asses of their babies?
Just read the posts on this conservative forum and you’ll find probably 30-40% of posters agreeing with the premise of the left and they only wish to fight to slow their progress.
The current American elecorate actually are dumb enough to fall for the candidate that performs your clever handle.
The "GREAT" one, Mark Levin has been
calling him Barack "Milhous" Obama !!LOL!

There ya go. And turn yer speakers up a bit to hear The “GREAT” one.
:)
Well, the most current issue is the War on Terror. This character Barack "Milhous" Obama ready to pick up that war come Jan. 20, 2009 ?? I think NOT !
His voters won’t wanna miss Oprah or will be stoned on election day, relax. We haven’t even started defining him yet.
For those who are having a fit about "Political Correctness", they can pretend that this entire controversy is a deliberate and diabolical dirty trick which has managed to get everybody discussing his middle name.
Maybe folks should say, “Barry H. Obama” or some such. Our current POTUS has been known as “George ‘Dubya’ Bush.” No one complained about that. Even Bubba was called “William Jefferson Clinton” and sometimes “Billy Blythe” or whatever. Reagan is known as Ronald Wilson Reagan. Bush 41 is known as George Herbert Walker Bush. Richard Milhous Nixon. James Earl Carter. John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Lyndon Baines Johnson. Dwight D. Eisenhower. Harry “what does the S stand for” Truman. Franklin Delano Roosevelt. I start to lose the middle name stuff around here though there are a few I recall. Did George Washington have a middle name? Jefferson? Lincoln? (JQA, WHH, WHT are a few more I can name off the top of my head.)
I looked up Hussein. It means “good looking” according to a whole bunch of baby name sites. What’s the big deal? I’m far more concerned with Obama wanting to yank troops out of Iraq but send them back in if al Qaeda gets uppity there. I guess Barry didn’t get the memo that we’re takin’ the battle to their territory rather than fight it here. Taking out a murderous dictator was a bonus for the folks who value freedom. And then there’s the whole geography thing. What’s in between Iraq and Afghanistan????
Yup. Stating the name Hussein over and over again doesn’t matter one bit.
Lose? Not a chance. John McCain is revitalizing the GOP by bringing in millions of new voters. November will be a Republican landslide.
Exactly!
Lets deal with the issues and behave like adults.
If Ronald Reagan’s middle name had been “Adolph”, what would you have thought of people who harped on something he had no control over? Obama didn’t name himself, and his middle name has only recently gained notoriety; trying to use his name against him only comes across as bigoted
However, Obama’s socialistic policies and lack of executive experience, not to mention his weaseling out of taking a stand on so many votes, is fair game. We should be asking him why he couldn’t or wouldn’t make a decision on those votes, why he thinks increasing taxes would be a good idea when it’s never worked before, and why he would attack Iraq if Al-Queda built a base there but didn’t support Pres. Bush holding Iraq to account for the same reason.
I'm sorry, but what ended up happening was a "scorched Earth" encounter with a supporter, who was so completely outraged and insulted over the treatment for performing the job that was asked of him that he turned on McCain on the spot and announced that he'd support Hillary.
I just don't see where mentioning someone's middle name would warrant such an attack on one's own staff. The whole incident could have been warded off with a shoulder-shrudge and the comment "It's the man's name, why does his name upset you so much?"
It was an easy opportunity to turn the issue around on the enemy, who is obviously more upset about "Hussein" that we could hope.
To that end, it was a major political blunder. Mind-numbingly stupid.
If this is a sign of how McCain is going to operate, I fear we are releasing a mouth-frothing RINO in a China shop.
I'm not flaiming you , Southhack, I truly respect you over the many years you've posted here. I'm just that concerned about a McCain candidacy. I really believe he should be jettisoned ASAP and we should be planning a brokered convention.
Refusal to wear an American flag pin or place his hand over his heart in its honor--that's "Bs".
The Communist Cuban Flag with Che Guevera imposed upon it in his Houston HQ, and he refuses to do anything about it-That's "Bs".
His racist church-"Bs".
Farrakhan's endorsement-"Bs".
His mostly incoherent campaign platform-"Bs".
His marxist economic policies for the country-real "Bs".
His track record of doing absolutely nothing of substance while in the US Senate except run for president-"Bs". All of those and many other issues with Osama taken individually probably not much in your narrow view, but taken together not really "Bs", except perhaps to you Bs "intellectuals".
Your ignorant attack on me for having the audacity of hope...er,uh the audacity to question why McCain may not have the guts to be a president, not surprising for a "Bs" McCain sycohant, but Bs nonetheless. And not very intelligently stated either.
Oh, and have a nice day-"Bs"!
What idiots the GOP leadership must be.
These are the same clowns who said I was racist for opposing amnesty.
Gillespie and Rove.
Cowards is what they really are.
Bullshit.
The people who think it's clever are the ones who are trying to lose the election.
I'm opposed to it because I think it will rally mushy middle voters to him. If you can show me otherwise, I'd be fine with it.
But I'm pretty sure I'm right.
And I will refer to by B. Hussein Obama.
Or maybe just Hussein.
The GOP is such a cowardly organization. It is time for it to die. It serves no useful purpose. It’s focus is liberal-light as opposed to the DemonRats liberal-socialist. Either way we move the ball every time on down the liberal direction.
No more. I’m just getting to the edge of the cliff a little more slowly. (And with McCain it’ll be at a brisk walk.)
