Save our Elk
Save Our Elk ^

Wolves in Salmon, Idaho Decimate Elk Hunting This is something I received from an Idaho outfitter regarding the impact on elk in the Salmon, Idaho area. Although it is about Idaho, the same things hold true for Wyoming. There are some in the G&F who like wolves and will go out of their way to skew their studies to let the wolves off the hook. On the other hand, there are some in our Wyoming G&F who hate the wolves for what they are doing to our big game herds. Name withheld.

I don't know about Idaho though.

I've seen deer along I-15 just east of the road from the Utah state line to about Malad (mile 13). I've seen moose and elk tracks in my front yard last year, but none this year. My 2nd house in Pocatello had moose or elk tracks in the backyard over the last 3 weeks. My son saw a herd of mule deer on the east side of I-15 near mile marker 63 when we returned to Pocatello around Feb 16.

Following quotes from Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation web site:

Predators are an important part of any ecosystem, including the world that elk inhabit.

Calving time, in late spring and early summer, is a period when cow elk especially need a safe place with good food and water.

My comments and no wolves ripping the baby calves out of the Mother cow elk. Did you see those pictures disgusting.

...10 hunters harvest 9 bull elk.

Sounds like a farm. Oh wait, they don't own the land.

Lack of free lunches seems to bring out the worst in "live free or die" Westerners.

That is good eastern reply who cares the wolves are waying wasteland to all the animals who cares they are stalking children who cares that in a few years hunting will be closed down to save the elk. Who cares the wolves are the most important thing right?

Ya know in Alaska, without serious wolf control; old wolf will quickly work the moose numbers down to about 10% of what the land can support (if they practiced predator control). The the wolves start eating each other and that's the true balance of nature.

I like having wolves around where I live but it's a never ending battle to keep their numbers in check. I have seen places along the upper Yukon where the moose have gone extinct from bear & wolf depredation. Handwritting is always on the wall too. Before the moose collapse, you'll see the local pack go from 5-6 to 20-30.

It all comes down to either the sportsman shoot the game or the wolves get 90% of it. Bounties for trappers seem to be most productive in the control of wolves, just common sense but the politicals will try sterilization, relocation, and every crazy scheme they dream up first.

No elk are left in Idaho. The INTRODUCED wolves (re-introduce is redundant)have eaten them all. My twelve year old just happened to get the last 4X5 in the state on the first Saturday in October before his 11 am football game (we were a bit late). We drove back to our hunting unit that afternoon (160 mile round trip) and I shot the last 5X6 in the state. It was not luck, rather it was that preparation meeting opportunity thing. Wolves are bad, but do something about it rather than complain. If your huntin you have a gun.

It’s always been part of the eco-fascists’ plan to drive ranchers, farmers, outfitters and hunters out of rural America and into the liberal cities.

Back around 2001, Rolf Peterson, the Isle Royale wolf researcher, sent one of his graduate students out to the Yellowstone area to study wolf predation. The report was a devastating indictment against the damage caused by Canadian grey wolves on moose and elk. Naturally, the eco-fascists tried to bury the report, but it got out anyway.

Freep-mail me if you want a synopsis.

When I was a kid there was a German Sheppard from a nearby farm that killed 5 of our sheep on two successive nights. He tore their throats out and left them.

I just found a link to this thread today. I would like a synopsis. It will be interesting when the elk on the northern range fall to the point that the wolves leave the Lamar and the enviros with their high dollar scopes find nothing. Guess who they are going to blame? anyone think they will blame their greed at wanting more and more wolves, nope it will most certainly be the fault of the ranchers and the hunters. Enviros take no responsibility for any of their mistakes.

“It’s always been part of the eco-fascists’ plan to drive ranchers, farmers, outfitters and hunters out of rural America and into the liberal cities.”

These wolves are going to begin decimating ranchers and driving them out of business. You can’t lose half of your herd and keep the doors open.

Liberal idiots know this. The sooner they can get the ranchers off the land and reclaim what is “naturally” “federal land,” the better.

Notice how much of the West the feds control. It’s downright pathetic.
