Report: New N.Y. Gov. Paterson, Wife Admit Affairs
Couple Comes Clean In Stunning Daily News Interview
Mar 18, 2008 6:00 am US/Eastern

NEW YORK (CBS) - Hours after being sworn in, a report has just surfaced that Gov. David Paterson had an extra-marital affair. And the accusations don't end there.

Not only does the report detail the alleged affair by Paterson, it also claims his wife, Michelle Paige Paterson, also had an extra-marital affair.

According to the Daily News, the governor's affair started back in 1999 when the couple was going through a rough time in their marriage.

In the interview, Gov. Paterson says he maintained a relationship for two or three years with a woman other than his wife, often having rendezvous in a Days Inn on the Upper West Side.

Paterson is quoted as saying, "This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point."

"Like most marriages, you go through certain difficult periods," Michelle Paterson said. "What's important is for your kids to see you worked them out."

The Patersons have two children, a 19-year-old student at Ithaca College who is from his wife's previous marriage, and 14-year-old who attends public school in New York City.

Paterson has been hailed as a politician of integrity and a man who can build consensus in Albany after a tumultuous year under Eliot Spitzer, who was forced to resign in shame last week after a report surfaced linking him to a high-priced call girl ring.

The Daily News is also reporting Gov. Paterson flat out denied another rumor flying through Albany – that he had fathered a love child by another woman.

” Bling fits. “

And so a running joke is born. Remember Mr. T? He was legally bling, too.

Well, a big percentage of the “conservatives” in the state (including my brother-in-law) are busy getting legally-bling rich on the ultra-cheap labor of the illegally non-bling poor immigrants, and pushing the rest of us who just want to earn a living playing by the rules that got set up by the liberals, that the conservative house has been divided. So you will be ruled by liberals, be they Dem or Rep.

Who’s making love, with your old lady, while you were out making love?

“The question is now: Is this all there is,”

While immoral, at least out here in fly-over country, having an affair is not illegal within itself. However, the gotcha which may nab Paterson is whether or not he used state funds or resources in the course of having extramarital intercourse....

FWIW, I don't care. Degenerate, crook. I won't vote for either.

And again FWIW, I wouldn’t bet against Mr. Serial Adulterer being guilty of a lot more than he’s copped to...

Did we really have to know this?

Agree. I think all marriages often do go thru a rough patch. These two are still together. Do we all think that Newt Gingrich, Livingstone (from LA) and Larry Craig lack integrity? Unless this affair was happening last week, I think it is irrelevant to how he governs - and how he works with the other party.

No question. This was an announcement to trump what was already in the can at the NYT and elsewhere.

I’m sure Patterson himself did the leaking. Timing was just too perfect.

I’m tired of New York news.

They love to talk about themselves. Can’t help it if they hire leaders in heat to run their business.

“Integrity” just doesn’t mean what it used to mean. Now, it means “for purposes of this latest sound bite.”

” I pray to God that NY will turn conservative in a backlash “

It would take a miracle of Biblical proportions ...

Too far gone ...

Like that will ever happen.........

My Sister and Brother in Law are both NYC Democrats and they spout the same thing, “it’s only sex! They did nothing wrong”, to which I say, “So, if I had an extra-marital affair, it’s okay because I’m still taking care of your Sister and the Family?” They both go on to say, “It’s not the same thing!”........

What am I missing here?

This is the difference to me- if you cheat on your wife, and did nothing illegal, you shouldn’t lose your job over the affair. Having an affair is not illegal in most cases. Wrong, but not illegal. If your wife forgives you then it really shouldn’t matter to anyone else.

Yes, sadly, this will make New Yorkers more determined than ever to prove that their liberalism “works”. Even though it’s doomed, the people of NY won’t catch on.

Okay, I can understand that, but I’m not the one in charge of a State, or one better, a Country. A person in Public Office must be held to a higher standard, if only to show they can be trusted with decisions that will make a difference to the Public life, not their Personal life.

I just don’t trust someone in power who is asked a question, can give an answer and then is shown to have given false information later. It doesn’t go with what I was taught about integrity.

I may not have done something illegal, but if it has a CHANCE of interfering with my job, and will bring discredit to the my Company, then they should look at disciplinary action at the least.
