Obama struggles to limit damage in pastor row as white voters slip away
The Guardian ^ | Saturday March 22 2008 | Daniel Nasaw, Ewen MacAskill

Listen for a few minutes to Joey Vento, owner of a south Philadelphia institution that serves gut-busting sandwiches through a takeaway hatch, and the scale of Barack Obama's problems become apparent. Obama is having the worst week of his campaign. It is, some believe, a week that threatens his chances of becoming president.

"That minister, that was terrible, all his sayings. He's preaching hatred," Vento said. "The thing I didn't like about Obama; you're telling me for 20 years you been going to that church and you never heard that?"

Vento, 68, was speaking about Obama's former pastor and spiritual adviser, Jeremiah Wright, whose sermons have been aired repeatedly on US television denouncing the US as racist.

The clips have alienated the white voters, such as Vento, that Obama needs in his next contest with Hillary Clinton, to be held in Philadephia and the other towns and cities of Pennsylvania on April 22. But it goes further than that. The danger for Obama is not just that he could lose badly in Pennsylvania but that senior Democrats will wonder whether the loss of white votes could cost him the November general election.

Phil Singer, spokesman for Clinton, told reporters: "It's no secret that the Obama campaign is in political hot water."

Obama attempted to defuse the escalating row with a speech on Tuesday in Philadelphia in which he spoke in detail about his relationship with Wright and race in the US. It was widely acknowledged as one of his best. He wrote it on Monday night after his wife, Michelle, and their children had gone to bed. Although acclaimed by the media and political activists, his speech has failed to win over voters such as Vento.

Obama has since redoubled his efforts. Usually reluctant to offer himself up for interview,

How very muslim of them.

I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial.

Or especially, characteristically, or to a greater extent than other churches?

Sure, the dummies will buy your lies. When your campaign volunteers go door to door to drag the politically ignorant, indifferent, and lazy folks to the polls, you may still have a chance. But Hillary supporters will most likely be hauling them to the polls, also.

Well, Obamanation was in town (Salem, OR) today. I was SO tempted to go to the rally with my “typical white person” protest sign, but I had the kiddies.

However, as I was coming out of the grocery store today I saw a woman with her “Obama 08” t-shirt on. It really was disturbing. His face was plastered all over it. It looked more like a concert t-shirt. Just one of the faithful paying homage to their false god I guess!

Parmy, I'm a White American Female and I know that both genders all over the world have a vital, yet unique value in society, which is made up of families. When young married women bought into the modern feminist propaganda that they could "have it all", I saw this trend as taking jobs away from men...men who supported themselves, their wives, and their children. It also relegated the care of children to outsiders. Believe me, others saw the pitfalls too.

One link I read shows:

In 1940, 28% of women worked outside the home

In 1996, 62% of women worked outside the home.

When children enter the picture, many of them spend their young years in "Hillary's Village". Sad. They need to be with a loving parent and, ideally, they benefit most by having a good mother AND father.

Seriously, I smell Hillary in this.

She waited until obama had an insurmountable lead in delagates then dropped the crazy-pastor bomb? Doubtful.

I can hear the vile screeds from “Pastor” Wright now if the DNC doesn’t pick B.H.O. in August or the Nation doesn’t pick B.H.O. in November.

You'll hear sirens on the streets in the big cities.

You must have picked up on the six or eight large American flags lined up behind him when he attempted to "explain" that he was unaware of Wright's anti-American rants despite his 20-year membership in that church. And, yeah, yeah, "Let me tell you about the good works of Reverend Wright!"

The Democratic Slogan: We have to move on from this.

"That's the way we think, as a people," said Brooks. "It may be a big thing to the white race, but you know, these things happened to us. All these things that he's talking about happened to us."

Only if you were born before 1865. If that's really the way they think "as a people," they'll always be unhappy and bitter and feel like they can't accomplish anything. What a miserable way to choose to live.

George Brooks, a cook in the A1 Soul Food truck, parked on the street in front of the Temple University campus in north Philadelphia, said Wright's comments reflected the thinking of many African-Americans. "That's the way we think, as a people," said Brooks. "It may be a big thing to the white race, but you know, these things happened to us. All these things that he's talking about happened to us."

A "people" don't think...a "people" is the definition of an unthinking mob.

Tell us that YOU think, Mr. Brooks...if you can.

I’m an Aussie, watching from a distance. I’m still inclined to believe most people in the US do not realize obama is not what he claims to be, he is not an african-american, he’s a lot of arab from his Kenyan-born father, a lot of white Kansas from his mother and a tiny bit of Luo Kenyan from a Kenyan great-grandmother...

http://kennethelamb.blogspot.com/2008/02/barak-obama-questions-about-ethnic.html

True Negro tribal members of western Kenya where his father was born have Christian names, not Arabic. His father’s decision to name him with an Arabic name is a matter of his father establishing his ethnic identity in Africa - it is done deliberately to separate him from the African tribes. He may live among them, but he is not one of them. His father’s message is that he is Arabic, not Negro.

Many will find these truths unsettling. I’m often asked, “But I thought his father was Kenyan. How could Mr. Obama not be African-American, how could his ethnic composition be so Arabic?”

The definitive clue to that answer is to look at his name, his father’s name, and the names of all his ancestors on his father’s side. They are all Arabic.

Researching his roots reveal that on his father’s side, he is descended from Arab slave traders. They operated under an extended grant from Queen Victoria, who gave them the right to continue the slave trade in exchange for helping the British defeat the Madhi Army in southern Sudan and the Upper Nile region...

He wrote his own speech? That's another BIG LIE! I have yet to see anything BHO has written except excerpts from the 2 juvenile books he claims to have written.
Where are any writings from this highly educated Professor of Constitutional Law? I'll wager his writing skills are minimal, very much like his so-called intellectual thinking being even quasi rational.
He is just another AA BUM with no real talent except spreading BS via a Teleprompter and his internalized bigotry & oppression! He's dead in the GE!
