Certifying Parents
Wall Street Journal ^ | 3/22/08

Posted on 03/22/2008 8:02:47 AM PDT by captjanaway

In the annals of judicial imperialism, we have arrived at a strange new chapter. A California court ruled this month that parents cannot "home school" their children without government certification. No teaching credential, no teaching. Parents "do not have a constitutional right to home school their children," wrote California appellate Justice Walter Croskey.

The 166,000 families in the state that now choose to educate their children at home must be stunned. But at least one political lobby likes the ruling. "We're happy," the California Teachers Association's Lloyd Porter told the San Francisco Chronicle. He says the union believes all students should be taught only by "credentialed" teachers, who will in due course belong to unions.

Absolutely correct. Some supposedly intelligent FReepers don't understand the concepts of causation or correlation.

I think it is merely a case of the government getting scared that government school systems are getting too much competition. The public schools might also be worried that their prospective pupils are being wittled down to the dregs. That will make them look bad statistically and make it not very much fun to be a teacher at a public school.

These are just random ramblings on my part. I really don’t have any inside info or knowledge of the inner workings of education systems. I don’t have any kids.

This inbred retard is NOT using this to arrogantly say my kids are smarter than anyone elses.

Well sure you are. Why else post it?

I'm just terribly sorry, but you are not ever going
to get me to agree your kids are better than mine.

You're on the right track.

When I pulled my two boys from public school and put them in Catholic School, I got a call from the public school admin office asking "why?" They're not really interested in my boys, just the money they lose with two fewer students. I said I didn't have an hour to explain, but gave her a few choice reasons:

You get the picture.

It is polite and customary to ping someone when you are talking about them.

LOL! That's a good one

Is this what they mean by “self-loathing”?

You will kindly note that I am not posting threads about how my
homeschooled son is far superior to his publicly educated brother.

If indeed that were the case, which it is not.

It’s not about indoctrination for the NEA or the govt. It’s about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Where we live, they get $7,500 per child per year for public school enrollment. My daughter who is Special Education, they get $17,500 per year for her. They were TICKED when I withdrew four children from their income — I mean, schools.

Let's see, I posted it because Twink said there is NO statistics.

I'm just terribly sorry, but you are not ever going to get me to agree your kids are better than mine.

Your way off base. I really don't care if your kids are smarter than mine or if mine are smarter than yours. I really, could care less. Today, I'm having fun at YOUR expense. I haven't had this much fun on FR in awhile (and I have the somach flu). Your so maniacal about proving to us we're "elitist" - you're incoherent and worse knocking your own kids.

Yes, I found it interesting also that he tells me to go to hell, and then reminds me about Emily Post. I’m a single homeschooling adoptive mother of four precious children, and I am usually not considered a thoughtless, arrogant person. I am not accustomed to being told to go straight to hell (which I will NOT be doing, because of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, commonly referred to as the Easter season). Praise God that “humblegunner” will not be getting his wish for ME. :-)

Shrug it off.

Homeschooled kids are, in fact, the future of the country.

For the most part, the rest will be the ditch diggers referred to earlier.
