[Harold] Ickes is Clinton's not-so-secret weapon
LA Times ^ | March 31, 2008 | Peter Nicholas

Posted on 04/01/2008 6:47:46 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

Harold M. Ickes never forgets a favor, especially if he's the one who did the favor. So the veteran political operative made sure that, when the time was right, he alone would call Garry Shay, former chairman of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party... And once Ickes started calling, he didn't stop until Shay said the words Ickes wanted to hear -- that he would support Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August... the man in charge of Clinton's feverish effort to lock up superdelegates is Ickes, whose enthusiasm for no-holds-barred politics sometimes rattles friends and foes alike. Ickes once got so carried away that he bit another political operative on the leg... Aggressive, profane, openly scornful of rivals, Ickes rules Clinton's superdelegate operation with an intimidating style and a mythic persona... He is the son and namesake of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's famously irascible Interior secretary... He worked in Sen. Eugene McCarthy's 1968 campaign to unseat President Lyndon B. Johnson. He joined Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) in trying to deny President Carter renomination in 1980. He worked for Jesse Jackson's presidential bids in 1984 and 1988. Unhappy about the way Jackson was being treated at the '88 convention, Ickes hatched plans that included a threat to hand out 1,700 plastic whistles to Jackson supporters so they could disrupt the proceedings. Some of his ideas unnerved even Jackson; Ickes remembers him saying, "Ickes, you want to get me run out of white man's America." Ickes is Clintons not-so-secret weapon

He worked in Sen. Eugene McCarthy's 1968 campaign to unseat President Lyndon B. Johnson.

That was successful

He joined Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) in trying to deny President Carter renomination in 1980.

More success

He worked for Jesse Jackson's presidential bids in 1984 and 1988.

Well damn. I'm impressed.

Those were cited in the context of his being a maverick. The fact is, “Clean Gene” showed LBJ that he couldn’t win the nomination, and he dropped out of the race. RFK entered the race, was on his way to the nomination, was assassinated, and Humphrey wound up the nominee.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_McCarthy#The_1968_campaign

“Despite strong showings in several primaries, McCarthy garnered only 23 percent of the delegates at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, largely due to the control of state party organizations over the delegate selection process.”

(some things never change, eh?)

Harold M. Ickes

"..Ickes is a political strategist working on Hillary Clinton's campaign in the 2008 presidential election.

Ickes was a member of the Democratic National Committee who voted in favor of stripping Florida and Michigan of their convention delegates for moving their primary dates earlier than allowed by DNC rules. He has since changed his support of these sanctions, however, calling on the DNC to reconsider its penalties. [2].."

Whatever helps Hillary! They left off Hypocrite in his bio.

[snip] Harold Ickes, a 40-year party operative charged with winning over superdelegates for the Clinton campaign, made no apologies on Saturday for the campaign’s convention strategy. “We’re going to win this nomination,” Ickes said, adding that they would do so soon after the last contest on June 7 in Puerto Rico. “You’re not going to see this go to the convention floor.” [end]

A little background on the old Hillary kool-aid drinking Harold Ickes according to David Horowitz and Richard Poe, THE SHADOW PARTY published 2006, page 158, as folllows: "...In 1965, Ickes traveled to the Dominican Republic, where he lent assistance to a junta of leftist colonels seeking to oust the sitting government. Some of the rebels displayed a worrisome degree of sympathy for Castro's revolution. The plot was foiled when President Johnson landed 20,000 Marines on the island."

His next move was to organize Viet Nam Anti-War protests, and through this he met Bill Clinton.

Since Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Fox News are filling their programs with Obama's now distanced "crazy uncle" Pastor Wright, I felt it would be good to examine one of Hillary and Bills "crazy friends" and associates.

Hill& Bill and friends are far more dangerous than Obama. These people need to be defeated before they can get the nomination. If with the help of the idiot Limbaugh and Fox news she wrangles it away from Obama I know she'll win.

That's the truth, and he calls himself The Truth Detector. He's sleeping with the devils, Bill and Hillary. I feel like he has betrayed the good women in his loyal and vast listening audience because he is supporting that harridan hag twit, who has no more right to say Obama should distance himself from Pastor Wright, than Obama would in telling her to distance herself from her represhensible husband who is a serial sexual predator.

I think it is time for Rush Limbaugh to untie the other half of his brain and start planning for an Operation Chaos exit plan, because the Clinton Family will win it by exploiting the rules, and what are rules to these two lawless scumbags.

I have not heard Hannity mention his “Stop Hillary Express” for weeks now. Weeks. Nothing but Obama bashing. Meanwhile.....as I’ve tried to tell every talk radio bot on this site-the latest poll in my state (Oheilo) has Obama at 44%-McCain at 60%-and The Clintons at 54%. I’ll tell you all again. Psssttt. Obama CAN NOT win OheilO. But The Clintons could.

All Carville has going for him is a big mouth.

Ickes is a labor attorney with a plethora of very sinister connections which he does not stint to use to achieve his goals.

He is Richelieu to Hillary's Louis XV.

There’s a drive on to keep the nomination from Hillary and award it to Obama. Hillary is not havin’ that happen. Realistically, neither of them can clinch the nomination with the remaining delegates still to be chosen in primaries etc, so the superdelegates are everything. Hillary’s campaign is made up of old cutthroats, and perhaps they’ll wind up neck and neck, give or take the FL and MI delegations. Hillary plans to force the party to either seat those delegations, or have to publicly refuse to do it in front of the whole world.

Check out Richard Poe:
