Olbermann Nostalgic for Days Rush Could Be Hung for Riot Remarks
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Who said leftists are opposed to the death penalty? It's just a question of who's being hung. . .

Many Americans might wax nostalgic for the long lost America immortalized in Norman Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post cover drawings. Not Keith Olbermann. He longs for the good old days when people like Rush Limbaugh . . . could be strung up. Here's the Countdown host tonight, speaking with Air America's Rachel Maddow:

KEITH OLBERMANN: Legally, we've come a very long way since the Haymarket bombing in Chicago in 1886 when we wound up hanging some anarchist writers, who were not even in the state, as murderers by proxy. And legally there is this question of "temporal remoteness" [separation in time between the statement and the act]. You say this now on the radio, it happens in August. It's not like yelling "fire!" in a crowded theater; it is protected speech. But do you think that Limbaugh has any idea that were he to repeat what he said on the air, say the day before the convention, or during it, he might actually be morally or legally responsible for incitement to riot?

Rush should sue for libel.....

Rush is a public figure. It's damned near impossible for them to sue for libel.

Someone ought to try.

Folks fawning over his every utterance doesn't help much.

Lemmings.

Seeing people blindly follow a radio actor is troubling. Seeing people blindly follow a radio actor is troubling.

Then let's say "Rush listeners" or "Rush concurrers" and stop being quite so anal about phrasing that most of us understand.

Seeing people blindly follow a radio actor is troubling.

Definately bears repeating! ;-)

He's an entertainer with a radio show. Not a leader.

He is not the source of all wisdom.

He is just an actor on the radio.

Rush has nothing to fear. His beloved President Hillary will surely pardon him after all he’s doing to get her elected.

The irony is that we’ve lost count of the things Olbermann has said that would have gotten him hung.

" He has followers? What, is he like a prophet or something? He does a radio show. He ain't a messiah. "

And Free Republic has followers and this ain't the Bible . What exactly is your point?

I agree with that. I just don’t think he has many people who “blindly follow” him. Just agreeing with him on some things or many things is different than following blindly.

And hey, when I get a sentence with no typos, I like to repeat it.

That folks take this radio clown too seriously.

Some of 'em even little shrines set up where they worship him, I'll bet.

I actually saw this. the lez from Air Amerika was more composed and rational than olberboy. I think this is a variation of olberboy’s tactic of mentioning O’reilly’s name as often as possible to draw a response from O’reilly, which would be a publicity boost for olberboy. It hasn't worked with O’reilly, so he's trying it with Rush, knowing Rush can't resist playing any soundbite where his name is mentioned. Olberboy mention as many “enemies” as he can think of in his attempts got get free publicity from any response, but I hope Rush can resist the pull of his ego and ignore Olberboy like everybody else does.

I doubt that, but the number of jealous little jerks who always piss and whine about Rush never ceases to amaze me. Penis envy?

This Maddow woman has always looked like a closet "diesel dyke" to me; talks and acts like on too.

Closet? You kidding? With that haircut?

Penis envy?

In order for me to have that, I'd need comparative data.

No doubt your nude Limbaugh file is huge; mine is non-existant.
