Andersen got the piracy case against her dropped; now she's going after the RIAA for conspiracy.
When Tanya Andersen opens the door to her modest apartment in suburban Portland, Ore., her Maltese-terrier mix, Tazz, runs over and wags his tail in a friendly hello. The 45-year-old single mother doesn't seem like much of a fighter. She spends most of her days sitting on an overstuffed sofa with a heating pad behind her back to ease chronic pain and migraines that have kept her on disability for nearly five years. Her voice is soft and halting. Yet this woman is behind a fierce assault on the music industry and its tactics for combating music piracy on the Internet. "I've just got to keep doing what I believe is right," she says, with Tazz curled up next to her on the couch. "And that's fighting and letting people know what's happening."

Do you even know that an ip address can be spoofed? That young punks who are the real culprits (I teach many of them) often run various software tools that find unsuspecting Kazaa users, for example, to finger their crime onto?
You say you’re not stupid and I’d agree, but you may perhaps be naive if you think that the RIAA’s method of finding those “guilty” isn’t just bad science and legally shameful.
My, but you're a dumb one! Are you able to comprehend the notion that IP addresses can be spoofed, and / or are sometimes dynamic?
I suspect that our fellow Freeper Fishhawk isn’t going to understand the concept of spoofing IP addresses, malicious prosecutions, or any of that stuff until it happens to them.
Hopefully, it won’t. I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. But a court found the accused in this case was innocent and all charges were DROPPED, and the RIAA didn’t even bother to go after the REAL perp after the culprit had been identified.
A person would have to be a total f’in idiot to believe that innocent people are not railroaded each and every day by corrupt or incompetent law enforcement, prosecutors (can anyone say ‘FitzFong’?) or pseudo-mobsters like the RIAA.
This ain’t the America of the 1950’s anymore, dammit.

That said, I notice you studiously avoided a reply to the substance of my previous post. Surely you're aware that IP addresses can be dynamic and/or spoofed. Correct?
There is good and bad on both sides of this issue.
I’ve got copyrights on 2 songs I’ve written. I don’t want them altered in any way, nor do I want anyone else to make money off of them without my permission.
I understand the artists’ position. It’s their work, they should get payed for it’s use. And no, if people are copying an artist’s work that he is selling commercially and letting people all over download it for free, that is wrong.
But, the RIAA is doing this because of the sheer greed on their part. There is less than a dollar of value in a CD and it’s packaging. The profit markup is unbelievable. The big recording houses are losing money BIG-TIME and that is why they are so hot on this issue.
They are fighting a losing battle, technologically. Digital music will be copied, no matter what they try to do.

Let’s try this once again. Are you aware that IP addresses can be dynamic and/or spoofed? It’s a yes or no question...shouldn’t be too difficult.
No apologies necessary. Although it's a shame you lack the intellectual honesty to admit that you were simply mistaken.
The RIAA is hypocritical and unethical. For years people have made mix tapes off records and CDs and never once was it considered illegal to do so, either to give to others or make for yourself. Even ripping tunes off a CD does not give a 100% equal copy of the original CD’s quality. But because they are a lot better quality than CD to tape or record to tape, RIAA says it’s illegal to do so.
F&ck RIAA. It isn’t the quality of the copy that makes it illegal. It is about ownership. The precedent has already been set. They never said ‘boo’ about it in the past. Nobody would have agreed with them either.

Oh really? Feel free to show me where I'm wrong. I notice that after multiple requests, you still refuse to admit that IP addresses can be spoofed or are sometimes dynamic. I wonder at this point whether you even understand that's a possibility. As I said, the intellectually honest course of action would be for you to admit that you were mistaken, and move on. That you refuse to do so speaks volumes about you.
