Moderator’s note:This was the first real thread reporting the news today. It was locked for reasons that should be obvious to everyone by now. The Moderator who locked it is the level-headed Mod. I am the arbitrary and capricious Mod. If you choose to martyr yourself I am happy to oblige.

US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the veteran lawmaker from Massachusetts who is the last surviving brother in the legendary Kennedy family, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today.

Specialists in Boston and around the country said the information released indicated that Kennedy has terminal cancer and might have only a limited time to live.

Nice post. When President Reagan died, a brother of mine sent me an email. He was fiendishly happy. Acquaintances of mine were also, and it sickened me. I must say I once “hated” President Reagan too, when I was a liberal. When I read he had Alzheimer’s, I was sad. Deeply sad for a man I by then respected. I was still a liberal in 1994, but I had changed. It is an odd thing to hate someone I don’t know. I tend to love people I know, so why not the same for hate? When Reagan died, I was very, very sad. For many reasons.

I am not a liberal anymore, and have grown in many ways. I still have a ways to go though. I wish Senator Kennedy the best.

I’ll ditto that.

I’m praying for miraculous healing culminating with a saving knowledge and acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ.

No strangers prayed for him.

How many times I have seen chubby fingers interlaced while rosy cheeks moved and those earnest little prayers were whispered through cherubic lips, "God bless everyone in the whole world!" An earnest prayer, from an earnest heart (no matter how small) that I believe God sees, smiles on, and answers. Thus, I believe that the most precious of children earnestly prayed for your dear father each and every night.

I won’t claim to have too much class to make some stupid remark about this, but hey, we’re part of FreeRepublic, not MoveOn or DU. Plus, I’m afraid of both our level-headed mod and our capricious mod.

But seriously, and in all seriousness, I hope he doesn’t suffer.

I may agree not with you politically, as I don’t many, but you have my prayers and heartfelt sympathy.

It’s a tough road ahead.

Nice post, PowerPro.

I am not a Kennedy supporter, and I do not admire the man. But I wouldn’t wish this diagnosis on anyone (even my ex-husband). I hope and pray that he is kept as comfortable as possible. And I pray that his family and friends find the strength to endure the hard times ahead. This is such very sad news.

Your post is of very poor timing. I had a test come back that may indicate prostate cancer today. I don’t have a brain tumor, but it isn’t so hard for me to walk in the senator’s shoes tonight.

Almighty and Eternal God,

You are the everlasting health of those who believe in You.

Hear us for Your sick servant, Ted

for whom we implore the aid of Your tender mercy,

that being restored to bodily health,

he may give thanks to You in Your Church.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen

"This is a good opportunity to show we are better than them. Because we really are."

I stand corrected.

He has a glioma brain tumor

My wife was diagnosed with glioblastoma in January, 2005. She passed away in December, 2005, right after our 25th Anniversary.

My bets are on Teddy beating the tumor

1 year survival rate way less than 50%. Five year survival rate well under 1%.

Now it all makes sense. This tumor is famous for affecting judgment and perception. Hmmmm. Who would have guessed?

Just read this on Boston(AP) Not good.

“Doctors said the senator had a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe, a region of the brain that helps govern sensation, movement and language. Malignant gliomas are diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year; in general, half of all patients die within a year.

“It’s treatable but not curable. You can put it into remission for a while but it’s not a curable tumor,” said Dr. Suriya Jeyapalan, a neuroncologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.”

I’m very sorry to hear that. I do wish you good fortune. Since you use the word “may” I hope that means it is not for certain at this point.

You seem to indicate that since I am not particularly distraught as regards Kennedy’s health, that I don’t care about the misfortunes of others. Not so.

Indy,

I do not think Kennedy is “America’s Royalty.”

I do not think Kennedy is “A Moral Compass.”

I am not smiling ear to ear about the man’s medical condition. My mother died from a brain tumor and I remember what she went through.

Just pointing out a fact about the media. Thats all.
