What I seriously doubt is that the media has given us the entire story. What I seriously doubt is that there was any kind of vote due to the fact that the kid is different. What I’m pretty sure of is this mother has a child that has been disrupting school(s) for some time and she sees a payday on the horizon.

From the article: "Steele said the teacher confirmed the incident took place.

Some friendly advice...next time read the full article.

They don’t mainstream kids who wear diapers or create any special problems. I have seen teachers who actually encourage the problems by allowing the regular kids to torment the special kids in class and then yell at the special kid, like after having their books dumped on the floor by some bully, and a teacher who gave a special kid a broken camera for an assignment and then asked to have the child removed from her class because she didn’t complete the assignment, because the pictures didn’t turn out.

Some teachers, especially older ones, don’t think that they should have to work with special ed kids, and actually do everything in their power to keep the special ed kids out of their classes.

I feel for the Down's Syndrome child, but that's not the only kind of special ed kid. Kids get put in special ed often for having massive emotional problems. Specifically, they can be VERY aggressive, and very disruptive. I've had some extremely difficult and borderline dangerous kids put in my class. You don't know what it's like.

Looks like the school district is now on the hook for some very expensive private schooling.

btw, I am dealing with this issue myself.

And we will wonder in 10 years why this kid shot up his school?

He won't. Autistic children don't do that sort of thing.

I did read the article, but thanks for your sage advice. Did you happen to notice that there was a great deal of detail about the kid’s side of the story, but nothing more than confirmation that something happened from the school? I doubt that we have been told the whole story about the details of the ‘vote’.

Well, you're certainly free to go with that theory. But personally, a comment stating that the teacher confirmed the incident is good enough for me.

Unfortunately, sometimes they do.

I personally know a parent/child that experienced the exact same incident in Vero Beach, FL. The mother had to get an advocate to intervene with the school district. These stories are so true and some worse. Nothing will probably happen to the teacher unfortunately. The child suffers the most.

In this case here I would bet the kid was disruptive otherwise the other kids wouldn't have "voted" for him to be put out. He would have been different enough for them to do so without any bad feelings on their part. Just instinct.

I’m not talking about kids with massive emotional problems. Those kind of kids are not mainstreamed without an aide accompanying them, if at all. I’m talking about kids who just want to be treated like everyone else but aren’t like everyone else. I’m talking about lazy, self centered teachers who shouldn’t be in the position of a role model for children.

In the case of this autistic child, the teacher should have requested that the parent work in the classroom until the child was classified. As a parent, I would have demanded that the teacher make a public apology to the child and explain to the class why what she had done was wrong. The child cannot be all that autistic, if he/she told the mother what had happened.

Look, it was kindergarten. It wasn’t algebra class. The kid was in the process of being classified, but the nasty, lazy, self-centered teacher couldn’t wait to hurt the kid and his parents.

I forgot to mention stupid, the teacher that is, not the child. I don’t know how they certify teachers that are so dumb that they can’t figure out a better way to handle a difficult child.

Reasonable persons know that special ed kids, especially older ones, take a huge amount of time and energy - so much so that that take away from the other kids education. I have personally seen this happen in my son’s classroom. By the time the young man was in 6th grade he was taller than my sons teacher, heavier and got physically violent on several occasions. My son got gypped so this kid could be mainstreamed. Sorry I’m not buying all this story.

I didn't say I agreed with what she did. Look. It's the end of the school year. She's probably been putting up with him since last August. I doubt anyone, even a "stupid" teacher would just up and run an election to vote a kid out.

Though we did have one a few years back that used duct tape to tape a kid's mouth shut and tape him to his chair. :) Yeah, she got fired.

THANK you. I am so sick of parents who do not give a moment's thought as to what effect their high-maintenance child has on others.
