U.S. Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who once sang in jest about bombing Iran, on Tuesday reacted to a report of rising U.S. cigarette exports to the country by saying it may be "a way of killing 'em."
McCain, known for acerbic comments and for sometimes firing verbally from the hip, was responding to a report that U.S. exports to Iran rose tenfold during President George W. Bush's term in office despite hostility between the two states.
A rise in cigarette sales was a big part of that, according to an Associated Press analysis of seven years of U.S. trade figures.
"Maybe that's a way of killing 'em," McCain said to reporters during a campaign stop in Pittsburgh. "I meant that as a joke, as a person who hasn't had a cigarette in 28 years, 29 years," he added, laughing.
He declined further comment on the report.

“Maybe that’s a way of killing ‘em,” McCain said to reporters during a campaign stop in Pittsburgh. “I meant that as a joke, as a person who hasn’t had a cigarette in 28 years, 29 years,” he added, laughing.”
Our hero.
McCain is a fricking idiot!!!! Sorry you got shot down...sorry you got captured....and tortured....but get the hell out of our presidential election cycle...you are not qualified and you dont represent the majority of the republican party you frickin idiot!!!!!
No,why do you ask?
Hmmm...Anyone know if this is a fact?
Yep, unfortunate -- cigarettes kill Iranians across the entire civilian culture, not just the extremist/Islamist terrorists.
But it does show that either:
We are SO screwed....
Sheesh! Where are McCain's advisers. Many Americans still smoke--- and so does Obama.
We have all known people who can not tell a joke . McCain acts like he has never even heard one .
Its not looking good at all. The convention is not here yet. Maybe he could have a complete meltdown causing the nomination to go to a Republican instead?
If McLame takes a cue from the New York State Legislature regarding cigarettes, then he could also tax them them to death.
I smoke, and McCain simply repeated the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard the story this morning. His comment is impolitic to a certain degree, but much less than your typical “nuke ‘em back to the Stone Age”-type remark.
killing a civilian population because of its insane leaders is a good idea.
Well, it’s a time proven idea that sometimes is necessary.
Note: the Mullahs have no qualms about exterminating every last one of us until we submit to allah.
DONATE A PACK A DAY ask me how?
FR has a Dollar A Day club so where is the Pack A Day for your favorite terrorist club?
What do you expect? McShame’s been whoring the Mexican vote too. Beer, smokes and ho’s. Mr Maverick.
I was more concerned with this:
McCain was responding to a report that U.S. exports to Iran rose tenfold during President George W. Bush's term in office despite hostility between the two states.
What else are we exporting to Iran?
Why do you even make that statement in public? It’s dumb. It’s not funny. It’s as far from diplomatic as it comes. And it really has no purpose other than to make you look like a retard.
That’s not even strong schoolyard talk. That’s just disjointed, awkward, and juvenile.
McCain is just very hard to defend sometimes.
FR spends more time beating up on McCain than beating up on Obama.
It’s fascinating to watch.
It was a joke . Do you McCain haters/ Obama operatives ever let up ?
Gen. Curtis LeMay's comment was:
"My solution to the problem would be to tell [the North Vietnamese Communists] frankly that they've got to draw in their horns and stop their aggression or we're going to bomb them into the stone age."Impolitic or not, Gen. LeMay certainly knew how to conduct an effective military campaign. I wish someone of his experience were associated with this election. We could use somebody who is not afraid to use massive American firepower when appropriate.
Neither McCain nor Obama have the stones to even come close.
