Simply put, the Federal Government was totally stumped, but somebody had to pay.

“just as the Justice Department was to file criminal charges against him in the anthrax mailing assaults of 2001”
Whoa.

“Ivins also had helped the FBI analyze the powdery material recovered from one of the anthrax-tainted envelopes sent to a U.S. senators office in Washington, D.C.”
Weird. Maybe mishandling evidence or something? Who Knows.

Wow. Hydrocodone OD. Not a fun way to go.

This sounds weird, as a biochemist would know that massive amounts of Tylenol lead to a slow and gruesome death as your liver slowly dissolves and your body builds up with toxins and every organ system begins to fail.

Right on the tail of having to pay damages to someone else they were absolutely convinced did it.
So how has this man been on the radar as a suspect all this time but they kept pursuing another man?
Funny how they NOW have another suspect.

Maybe he wanted to suffer.
Or maybe he used his skills as a biochemist to chemically leach the Tylenol out of the Vicodin caplets, leaving only the “good stuff”. An OD of pure hydrocodone would put you to sleep (eternally) fairly quickly, I’d wager.
Either way, it’s a tragic waste of human life.

I wonder if they will present the facts of the case now that he is dead? I can’t help but wonder if they aren’t still stumped but need to pin this on someone.

Right on the tail of having to pay damages to someone else they were absolutely convinced did it. So how has this man been on the radar as a suspect all this time but they kept pursuing another man? Funny how they NOW have another suspect. They've been on this guy's tail for awhile. Paying off Hatfill was one of the requirements before arresting Ivins. In other words, admitting that it wasn't Hatfill. That's so that during a trial, Hatfill can't (or couldn't have, since there will be no trial) be used as a "reasonable doubt" excuse.
