The official Obama website announced: Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the leaders who will bring the change our country needs. Not everyone sees it that way. An old, white, demosaur whos been around Washington forever (1972!!!), responds PaulRevere (pseudo-name), a regular in a politically oriented discussion forum. Yep, change we can believe in. (sarcasm)
There is expectation already brewing and out of the pot that Bidens position as Chairman of the Senates Committee on Foreign Relations will help balance Obamas inexperience; an inexperience that helped make the run even against Hillary Clinton a major challenge. Foreign Relations has a nice friendly ring to it. If the choice had been Evan Bayh, who sits on the Armed Services Committee, it might not have seemed amenable to Obamas plan to coffee-clutch with evil-doers.
On the social policy front, Obama is a staunch Reaganite; causing more than a little confusion about which party is presenting the more conservative candidate. The confusion is understandable. Reagan managed to pull disparate groups together for what has generally been referred to as welfare reform and the two parties have fought over credit ever since. If youre a Democrat, you probably think ending welfare as we know it was Bill Clintons idea.
Clinton bled it for every drop of political advantage he could get until it died. In this vein, it shouldnt be long before someone considers the same Joe Biden with too many years on the Judiciary Committee and why Barack Obama is hugging an old dead corpse.
It didnt work for Mitt Romney. Romney became filthy with welfare reform dust from his years as Massachusetts governor. He had other problems contributing to his loss, but his past as a problem-creator rather than problem-solver in the social policy arena did not go unnoticed. A divorced father stood up and asked about the rough and unconstitutional treatment of fathers in his state. It was a Michael Dukakis in an Army tank George Bush (Sr.) at a grocery store check-out counter moment and the confident Mr. Romney looked like Bambi in the headlights. Suddenly, people realized that welfare reform is code for family law reform.
Lest Democrats think themselves immune, note that the applause for federal family law reform died out during the Clinton years. The cat is out of the bag. Tens of millions of people have been directly effected and their family and friends know about it whether Democrats, Republicans, or independents. Barack Obamas success with it so far on the campaign trail is solidly linked to the flowery nature of his oratory so few people know what hes talking about. A review of Senator Bidens history in family law reform could certainly bring enlightenment (as well quite frankly as reading the Democratic Party Platform). Exposure would help tie down the extreme left contingent of Hillary supporters, but it will just as easily frustrate any attempt to capture the American middle ground.
“Gay” thread alert. ;-)
Biden has the personality of a bucket of butt holes.
What’s new and “hopey changey” about a guy who has been in the Senate for 35 years? Obama was what, 9 years old, or some such, when Biden was elected ...
Look forward to Hillary in 2012.
Unless McCain picks Hill as -his- VP...
Ya never know...
“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he enthused. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”
Maybe Obama was so thrilled to be called “clean and articulate and good-looking” that he fell in love and hasn’t fallen out yet.
like dude, when i was in college the womyn said “who wants to read dead white men”? smirk.
i was reading homer and plato in the original ionic and attic.

Man, this is sure gonna confuse Paris Hilton.
LOL!
Post of the day!
But then again... what doesn’t confuse Paris Hilton?
Thanks SO much for that early-morning visual image... NOT!
Biden always reminded me of a powdered wig Tory or a Fop in
the French court.
Bugs’n Plugs ‘08
Biden had some major health issues several years ago. Is he healthy enough for a major campaign?
The best chance Obama had was to choose a white moderate Southern male.
LOL!
The rat's dream team of hate America and capitalism, the Islamofascist Narcissistic Liar and an Old White Honky Narcissistic Plagiarist/Liar $inator, or Karl Rove strikes again:
Maybe Obama will introduce is new VP running mate today as articulate, bright and smells good even though he’s an old guy.
