A North Texas family is mourning the loss of two of their pets. The nine-month-old pit bulls were shot and killed by a neighbor who says it was self defense.
The shooting happened in a neighborhood off Ten Mile Bridge Road in northwest Fort Worth.
The neighbors never had any problems before. But that all changed over the weekend.
The man who pulled the trigger says he didn't have any choice. But the dogs' owners disagree.
Kristopher Harrison has a six-year-old daughter. He says that's why he was upset when two pit bulls wandered into his backyard Saturday afternoon.
Harrison says he told his next door neighbors, if it happened again, he would shoot the dogs. And that's exactly what he did around 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Harrison says he and a friend were taking a break from watching the Olympics when the nine-month-old dog named 'Scarface' crawled under the fence. Harrison had his shotgun with him, so he says he shot the dog and the dog's sister, 'Lady'.
"I wish he just would have went in the house and would have came and told me instead of retaliating that way," dog owner Shaylen Ross said.
One of the animals was found dead in Harrison's backyard. The other was found dead in its own backyard.
"He was showing his teeth, growling and he was coming at me," Harrison explained. "The second dog, I didn't know. I didn't think I was going to have to shoot him, because he seemed a little hesitant. But then he looked at the hole in the fence. I thought he was going to go back under, then he turned around and started coming at me and that's when I shot him."
Fort Worth Police are reviewing the case, but they say if the dogs were in the neighbor's yard when they were shot it's unlikely that any charges will be filed.
Exactly. I shot a dog on a leash. The jerk was waltzing up and down the street using the pit bull to menace the neighbors. I walked out of the house, up to the dog and put two .38 specials in its skull, held the owner, called the police. C&C permit, no problem. He went to jail.

there was a fence, there was a warning. the dog that came thru was justifiable IMO.
however the dog that was found in his own yard, if he was shot there, the shooter should be strung up. there’s no possible excuse for that.
There's no threatening involved. My actions would be a REACTION to gunfire. No premeditation whatsoever. The only threatening would have come from Wyatt Earp.
That’s not how I read it. Both were shot on his property; one died on the spot and the second later died back on the neighbor’s lawn. Cops saw it that was as well, apparently.

With most dogs perhaps but pits are substantially more dangerous than your average dog. You can’t wait till they maul your six year old before firing the shot. Eventually if you have pits allowed to roam free in your yard you’ll either have to keep your girl inside all the time or have to risk pulling them off of her. With a child that age i’d be very cautious when it comes to dangerous animals.
I think you are a very irresponsible dog owner if you think it is OK to let your dogs run loose in the neighborhood and you must have little knowledge of animal behavior. Real simple solution, keep your dogs confined and no one will think about shooting them.

I’m curious, which presidential nominee are you talking about and how is he connected to the horrific behavior with pit bulls?

Dog fighting with pit bulls originated in Europe with various terrier breeds. The American Pit Bull was bred by English and Irish immigrants, primarily in the Boston area. They were used at that time for dog fighting in the cities, farming (bull dogging) in the country. So, no, Obama's people (white/Kenyan mix?) are not to blame.
Modern black dog fighting enthusiasts are following an old tradition, abhorrent as it may be. As an aside, Petey on the Our Gang shorts was a pit bull, which is the only nice thing I have to say about the mongrel breed. They are built and bred to do what they do. To the extent they remain calm, they are going against nature.
Read the story carefully, folks:
1. Neighbor’s dogs entered homeowner’s property through a hole. (Which dogs most likely dug.)
2. Homeowner warned neighbor.
3. Dogs entered homeowner’s property AGAIN.
4. Homeowner shot dog #1.
5. Dog #2 looked at the hole, as if to go BACK UNDER (meaning it was IN HOMEOWNER’S YARD) but came at homeowner anyway.
6. Homeowner shot dog #2 (which apparently crawled back and then died.)
This was a clean, justifiable shoot. The behavior and trespasses of these dogs were their OWNER’S responsibility. Those around them should not have to put up special defenses to deal with uncontrolled pets and irresponsible owners.
I take it this question is a joke. If it isn’t — and if you can’t figure out for yourself which certain element I’m referring to — ruminate on the name “Michael Vick.” You may recall that several of his fellow black athletes (whoops, there’s another hint for you) defended Mr. Vick by saying that white folks just don’t understand black culture. Come on may, get a life and stop being obtuse.
i had the same problem at my old house....both of the damn things would charge the fence and stick their noses through them and try to bite whatever they could, while the owners sat on the patio and watched....one time we were laying landscape timbers when the things attacked....i happened to have a timber in my hands when they hit the fence...i believe i knocked a few teeth out of the mouth of one of the dogs....i then looked directly at the neighbors and asked if i could put up a privacy fence ( city ordinance required the neighbors approval to put up a privacy fence ) they had no problem, and the dog problems stopped

Wow. You're agreeing that being an overreactive, itchy-trigger-finger type is BAD, after saying you'd shoot it out with your neighbors over a dog?
You apparently overlooked this statement:

He did exactly as he ought - he stopped two animals from being a neighborhood nuisance. All he really need reply is "I feared for my life," which is the essence of his statement; there's not one thing can be done.
Not taking sides here ... but really, what was this guy doing outside at that hour with his shotgun? I can see them watching the Olympics, no problem there. But why did he have his shotgun with him as the article states?

Everyone here is familiar with the adage. Don't escalate the situation by pulling out your weapon unless you're prepared for deadly force. This pr*** was looking to prove a point, and he killed two animals to do it.
