EL PASO, Texas Security is being heightened along the southern U.S. border because of a threat that warring Mexican cartels may send hit men into the United States, authorities said Monday.
Law enforcement officials would not discuss specific security measures being taken at the ports of entry, along the border or in the city of El Paso, Texas.
"We received credible information that drug cartels in Mexico have given permission to hit targets on the U.S. side of the border," El Paso police spokesman Officer Chris Mears said.

Isn’t this basically war?
Why are we allowing this?
They can just walk across.
We have no fences in most places.
See: Prohibition and its aftermath.
I could see how that would be beneficial, if only there was a Ranger Regiment or SF Group stationed there in addition to the ADA. By the way, Thank you for your service and when did you get your master blaster?
That's OK, because in Texas we shoot back. Me, I have a CHL and carry most days (correction, EVERY DAY starting now), and I'm going to get a decent trunk gun...an SKS with a couple hundred rounds on strippers should be cheap enough to lose while still being deadly effective (pun intended). Of course, I'm in San Antonio, and I don't really expect a lot of trouble here from the cartels. Rest assured, though, that if they get up here it won't be without a few scratches.
The only support that I'd like is for the government to repeal Title 18, Section 922(o), and to then state that members of the militia may defend themselves, their families and their communities without fear of any legal repurcussions.
Same principle as "the law-abiding don't need laws to tell them what not to do, and the criminals won't obey any law."
And, yes, some can't grasp this. "Some" as in at least 50% of the population and nearly 100% of those holding elective or appointed office.
I’m going to throw this out there:
Some of these cartels have likely been bribed by our jihadist enemies to begin these poke here and there attacks to examine our border weaknesses and also test our responses.
Further, they probably have a specific goal of organizing them eventually into more cohesive blocs - a Mexican Hezbollah if you will - from which they can take root nearby and receiving funding in weapons, arms, political advocacy, etc.
Win the drug war and the drug cartels won’t exist. Win the war against _______ and ______ wont exist.
I dunno. If pot became legal in my state I would probably smoke it. I know myself. I think I’m better off without it, but... it would be nice.
As long as there is demand, there will be a supply to fill that demand. That’s what prohibitionists never seem to understand, and why no “war” against a substance will ever be won through prohibition.
Black Jack Pershing would know how to handle these fools. It’s time for a few new “punitive” expeditions. Except this time we have helicopters.

It’s a mess, ain’t it sheriff...
If it ain’t, it’ll do till the mess gets here.
“As long as there is demand, there will be a supply to fill that demand. Thats what prohibitionists never seem to understand, and why no war against a substance will ever be won through prohibition.”
We didn’t always have a drug problem, you know.
Demand used to be miniscule. If it were miniscule again, that would be tolerable.
And just for the record, the only mind-altering drugs I use are highly caffeinated coffee, donuts (preferably cooked in trans-fats), ibuprofen, and an occasional cigar.
Well at least if the attackers get hurt on the GOOD side of the border they will get free medical care...Right Senator Dole?
rjp2005 - Im going to throw this out there: Some of these cartels have likely been bribed by our jihadist enemies to begin these poke here and there attacks to examine our border weaknesses and also test our responses. Mexican drug cartels may be mass murderers, drug proliferators, etc., but from what I have read and heard of them from friends down there - they do not like Muslims and would not do business with them on that level imho. Furthermore, would the Islamic extremists do business on that level with drug dealers? I imagine they would given their Koranic right to lie, et al, in order to achieve their goals. But I think the Mexicans would draw a line at doing business with the Muslims.
That is what is fueling all of this.
The cops love it, the courts love it, the prison contractors love it, and everyone else making a great living off illegal drugs loves it.
These cartels are probably threatening the politicians with death if they even so much as suggest legalizing most of the drugs they traffic in.
These groups have made billions in dealing illegal drugs. They have no desire to see their golden goose killed.
In addition, I'd bet the rent that there are a more than a few politicians being bribed, and making big money off this charade.
