RUSSIA: Dimitri Medvedev raises spectre of new Cold War
The Times (UK) ^ | August 26, 2008 | James Hider in Akhalgori, Georgia

Russia put the West on alert for a new Cold War that the Kremlin is ready to fight, its President said yesterday.

President Medvedev set tensions soaring when he recognised the independence of two breakaway republics inside Georgia. “We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a Cold War,” he said. Hours earlier he had ordered his Foreign Ministry to start establishing diplomatic ties with the secessionist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The move brought instant condemnation from the United States, Britain, France, Germany and other Western countries. President Bush appealed to the Kremlin to “reconsider this irresponsible decision”. David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, said that it was “unjustifiable and unacceptable”.

Mr Medvedev, whose troops still occupy positions in Georgia, including in the vital Black Sea port of Poti, said that he did not want a return to the Cold War, but that “everything depends on the position of our partners”.

Putin will keep tensions high far as long as he can between East and West. I think he believes its job security. That’s one of the ways the last group of KGB Officers stayed in power for so long in the USSR.

I don’t like Russians, even those with American citizenships. It’s not that I don’t trust them, I don’t. It’s something about them that makes me think they’re always up to something.

Their testing the waters. If they see the American voter cares little for our national defense and votes the anointed one in, they will know they are back in the saddle. If the American voter vote for McCain mostly on defense issues, then they will be a bit more crafty as how they proceed in retaking their former satellites over. And of course either way if the oil/gas issues start to favor the conservative American base, they will understand their future limitations on just how much money they will be able to sink into rebuilding their defense arm. If the US went hog wild on oil/gas drilling we could potentially put them out of business in ten or twenty years.

If the Russians publicly state that they are ready and willing to fight another Cold War, you can bet your bottom dollar that they are not ready and are not willing. They are projecting their fears. Just look at how they over reacted to Poland's missile shield. They are scared. Very scared.

Is he a magician? Did he have a seance?

Ridiculous title, trying to refer to the opening line of the communist manifesto no doubt, but "second time farce" applies.

They're not scared, they are arrogant pricks acting out of a sense of complete impunity. But they will be. The day Iran gets nukes is the day Russia's death warrant as a unified modern power is written.

I can think of no other reason to stage this now, just before the election.I also think this is a huge test of our fortitude and international standing. I guess it is good that I am not commander in chief. If it was me, I would sink every ship in the black sea fleet, send missles to every tank position in Georgia and then bomb the tunnel going through the mountains so they would be trapped like a rat as our guys took care of business, but thats just me.

Thats the way to go Chief,You Da man. It's just a test of our fortitude. We as a nation cannot or will not protect our own borders, yet you as our omnipotent ruler would unleash a NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST UPON US.

You sir are a FOOL.

A PATHETIC keyboard warrior just like all your other "fight for Georgia Brethren"

Georgia ,Ukraine and Poland can fight their own battles

All European wars RUN through these nations.

we are not a European Nation anymore.

I lived over two thirds of my life under threat of nuclear destruction I'll be damned if I want to return to it for some WORTHLESS Caucasian ground.

I often think that we should have listened to Gen. Patton

That would have solved our problems. We shoulda bombed them commies all the way to Siberia.

Truly a NEW AMERICAN CENTURY.What a waste the Cold War was.

Stalin swinging on a gibbet would been as good as good as Hitler suiciding in a bunker.

What makes YOU so sure it would turn into a nuclear war.Russia, unlike the islamnazi’s like life, they like to live, and at times need to be knocked down a peg. So, if Russia overuns Poland, Ukraine and other Baltic nations, thats OK with you?How bout when they arm Iran and Syria with nukes, you ok with that also. And if it goes that far is there any doubt in your mind that Hugo Chavez would be next in line for his missiles. You do know Russia wants to close supply lines we use into Afghanistan , right? Can you not see what is going on. Russia is trying to influence all of Europe, if they do, what then.

Knocking down the Russian involves NUCLEAR WAR.The Soviet Union Defeated Nazi Germany with BRUTE strength never again will the Russians be willing to do this.

So, if Russia overuns Poland, Ukraine and other Baltic nations, thats OK with you?

How many times have the Russians overun Poland ,the Ukraine and the Baltic States history is our friend.Clue, they were overrunning these places long before we were a Nation.

How bout when they arm Iran and Syria with nukes, you ok with that also. And if it goes that far is there any doubt in your mind that Hugo Chavez would be next in line for his missiles.

Let Isreal deal with our dirty work we have their back.Truman doctrine,Cuban misslie crisis history is our friend.

You do know Russia wants to close supply lines we use into Afghanistan right? sore losers

Can you not see what is going on. Russia is trying to influence all of Europe, if they do, what then.

"Knocking down the Russian involves NUCLEAR WAR.The Soviet Union Defeated Nazi Germany with BRUTE strength never again will the Russians be willing to do this."

The Bolsheviks would have been defeated if it had not been for massive Allied military and supply support for Stalin's caught off guard, near leaderless, communist dictatorship -- at a great loss to Allied serviceman's lives.

Recall Russia jointly invaded, butchered & dismembered Poland with the Nazis in 1939, then Moscow came crying to Washington and London when the Kremlin's former Berlin AXIS comrades stabbed butcher Stalin in the back.

Putin is Stalin Jr and must be confronted by NATO before Moscow & their Anti-Western cohorts ignite the unthinkable.
