St. Paul, Minnesota -- The GOP is starting its meetings -- scaled down, for sure, but happening -- here at the Xcel Energy Center, and the buzz is huge: how does the news of Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter's pregnancy upset the cart? Or does it?
GOP folks here roundly insist no; Democrats outside the convention center say, are you kidding? Of course it does.
On one hand: Pro-life types love the fact that the daughter is getting married and keeping the child, and social conservatives are very into the Alaska Governor.
We saw that this morning at the Califonria delegation breakfast, where speaker after speaker -- like former California Secretary of State -- hit the talking points that she has more experience than Barack Obama.

LOL!
The gay male wing of the dem party and the gay lib reporters would not have the guts to say anything to her face. She might WHOMP EM!!
IIRC, the soon to be VP equivocated on his answer while Mrs. Quayle gave her husband a nasty look then remained resolute saying the child would be born. Period.
The thing many even on this board don't seem to understand is that being Christian doesn't keep us from messing up, but it defines the actions we take once the consequences of our behaviors become evident.
LOL
A candidate’s daughter is pregnant? Why should that in any way be a shocker? Is the father from Mars or something like that? Sheesh... these people are really grasping.
He that has no sin, let him cast the first stone.
My real concern is a track record of successful accomplishments.
McCain and Palin have many, many accomplishments.
Obama: Zero (Well, there is the Annenburg Committee, but we’re not allowed to talk about that.)
Sarah should rise up like a Mama Bear if anyone in the media tries to violate her daughter’s privacy. Then the electorate will see the protectiveness of a strong conservative woman, who will protect the country. The left should be smart enough not to mess with someone nicknamed “Barracuda”, but they’re probably not.
What's on the other hand?!
Sorry, this is a 24 hour story, she’not dropping out, not going to happen, Obambi and his extremist followers aren’t going to get their wish. I’ll bet Sarah’s speech Wednesday will attract more viewers than Obambi’s did, and she will wow the audience like never before.
Have you ever heard of the Puritans who colonized New England? They practiced something called bundling. They didn't have guest bedrooms or central heading back in those days. If a male guest came in the dead of winter and stayed over night, he slept with the teen-age daughter so he could keep warm. They bundled.
Who is to say if anything occurred between the male guest and the teenage daughter in the middle of night? They only way that anything could be confirmed is if she got pregnant. If she didn't, the man went on his merry way. If she got pregnant, both of them were marched off to church and got married.
Palin's daughter got pregnant. She and her boyfriend are going off to church to get married. It all ends up in a joyous occasion.
One, given the nature of the story, “shocker” is probably a singularly unfortunate choice.
Two...okay, the kids screwed up. Given that unscrewing is no longer an option at this point, they appear to be doing everything in their power to mend their ways, do right by each other and do right by the baby. The grandparents-to-be, certainly the mother’s parents, appear to be standing ready to do everything they can to help.
And this is a scandal how?
Just OY!
What a flipping roller coaster this is. They said it would be an "exciting" campaign season, but please.
If the father is black, that would make things very interesting indeed.

Carla Marinucci: Obama’s team oozes optimism

“Despite some tough attacks from his opposition, the Obama great-granduncle won that election — in a landslide, the research notes.”
“Just asking, but — does the conservative radio crowd, constantly hammering ‘’Barack Hussein Obama,’’ give this one a mention?”

Palin should drop out. Its too much of a tabloid distraction, and the next round of attacks will be about her being a bad mother, putting her career ahead of her childrens well-being. This is only going to get worse for the GOP ticket.
God GOD, why didnt McCain choose Romney?!?
How in the world are you ever going to advocate abstinence-only education now...when the VP candidate has a pregnant teenage daughter? The jokes will be cruel
I think after all the glad-handing...Palin just may be asked to step aside
I agree, you found a troll.
I find it surprising that the San Francisco Chronicle can be “shocked” about anything. I remenber when they made one of the Star Trek movies which had a scene involving a return from the future by Mr. Spock to San Francisco. The producers figured he was dressed so oddly (as a Vulcan priest) that they could save on hiring extras by just filming the reaction of the people on the streets when this weird-looking character walked by. They had to hire extrss since when they filmed the scene they got absolutely no reaction from the passersby — the people in San Francisco apparently thought Spock’s bizarre outlook and attire were perfectly normal.
“I also think if they attack the Palins on this it will destroy Obamas credibility...”
the fact that his attack monkeys are even saying that this affects things is an attack on Bristol in and of itself.
They are despicable.
And btw, assuming mccain DID really know about this, which I think he did, the timing of the announcement for today was as good as it could get.
It came after the initial Palin introduction, which was a rousing success, but before the Convention really got going...also on Labor day when a lot of people are on the move, and also while gustav was a story. It was an intelligent decision on the timing to try to mitigate the impact.
