I just watched the most amazing bit of TV in decades - I cannot wait to see the YouTube version of it. Wolf Ditzer (aka Blitzer) was hosting Gloria Berger, Bill Bennet, Donna Brazille an John King (I believe) on The Situation Room and were discussing young Bristol Palin’s (Governor Palin’s oldest daughter) pregnancy and her plans to have the baby and marry the father. At the center of this discussion was Barack Obama’s call to keep the families (and these personal decisions) off limits. But what does CNN do? They air a woman reporter who ran to Alaska questioning the entire abstinence position of Governor Palin in light of her daughter’s pregnancy. It was pathetic.
Besides the Duh factor that abstinence works every time it is tried (pregnancies being proof of the opposite) Bill Bennet was rightfully outraged at CNN and Blitzer for bringing the Palin family’s personal issues into the debate like this. Bennett was hammering Blitzer who did not want to concede CNN crossed the line.
John King was looking just stunned and as if he was going to get sick. He wanted nothing to do with the muck raking by CNN.

I have read that Gov Palin is herself a member of Feminists for Life, a group of pro-life women’s rights advocates. Feminists for Life SUPPORTS birth control.
On the other hand, Palin, as Governor of Alaska applied for “Abstinence Only” education funds for Alaska.
There is no contradiction. Enough in her state wanted the funding for their school districts, that it made sense for the state to ask for them.
It’s like saying that you believe in nicotine patch smoking recovery, but if someone wants to go to a “cold turkey” program, and you help them find funds for it, that you somehow are being hypocritical.

Donna Brazile actually said today on CNN that she feels it’s fair game to attack Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin’s 17 year old daughter, who will be marrying her high school boyfriend and having a child.
This, after Andrew Sullivan and others perpetuated the vulgar story originated on Daily Kos this Saturday that Palin’s daughter Bristol was actually the mother of newborn Trig Palin, and that Palin stole the plotline of last season’s Desperate Housewives by faking her pregnancy so that she could claim to be Trig’s mother and not his grandmother (since the lies claim Trig is Bristol’s son, not Palin’s).
This is just ridiculous.
SoetorObama’s surrogates in the media have hit a new low. Even for them. For people without standards and slimey reputations to begin with, this is really a feat of accomplishment in a perverse way. People who are already so terrible to begin with just got even more terrible.

I wrote to them my two cents worth. I turned on CNN to watch about Gustav and possible flooding in NE Texas, and all they had was an hour of talking about a pregnant teenager. Helloooo, most people don’t care about a pregnant teenager right now.

Doh, I am dying to see it. I hope it shows up on youtube. I am not as brave as all of you and have not turned on the TV. I may turn it on Hannity though to see him attack Alan.

Thanks for posting. I saw Dana Bash do the deed. She was interviewing, said that Palin was for abstinance only education in schools, and then asked, “what is going on in her house?” I know that it is tough to think that quickly, but the comeback should have been, yeah she is being punished with a baby.
BTW, John King is Dana Bash’s husband!!!!

Perhaps I missed it, but I failed to catch mention of this during the discussion on CNN.

After WHAT fact? I ask again, when is the right time to announce to the world that your daughter is pregnant?
BTW, pregnancy is a medical condition. It's really the mother's perogative what to disclose about her medical condition, NOT her mother's.
The only reason they felt they had to disclose this was that the mainstream media was actually researching a false and ludicrous "story" written by a BLOGGER using a 2-year-old PICTURE to claim that Palin was LYING about a pregnancy and birth.
But because they were poking around her child's life, they felt it was better to announce on THEIR terms.
All the stories indicate that the people of their home town knew about this. It isn't ANYTHING to do with Palin, so there's no reason to disclose it.
All my other examples were to prod you to understand the truth -- it is none of YOUR business what's up with the daughter or son of a candidate -- you have no right to know about the girl's private life, or her medical condition, because she's not running for office and has nothing to do with the office.
The only exception should be if something in the child's life would preclude her mother or father from serving.
BTW, can you imagine CNN investigating whether a MALE candidate's child was actually his daughter's child? I can't -- this is a sexist attack, and a bizarrely stupid one as well.
