NYT: 'Journalists Wrinkled Their Nose in Disgust' at Piper's Touching Gesture
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 09/07/2008 7:59:34 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

When NewsBusters posted the screencap shown here as its Weekend Captionfest on Friday, the result was an outpouring of affectionate reader responses. Typical was this one, from "iveseenitall":

"The ladies in my house instantly fell for this kid. "Oh" and "Oooh" and "Ah". The giggles, the pointing at the t.v. Love all around that night."

The MSM lives in a different house. Check out this candid admission from New York Times media reporter David Carr in his article in today's NYT [emphasis added]:

"In the press galleries at the convention, journalists wrinkled their noses in disgust when Piper, Ms. Palin’s youngest daughter, was filmed kitty-licking her baby brother’s hair into place."

Or, at the very least, Mrs. Palin.

You beat me be 4 lousy seconds! ;-)

Let’s be fair to Carr. He was NOT saying he himself had that reaction. He simply had the honesty to report how other journalists reacted. He himself went on to observe:

“But to many Americans — including some I talked to in the convention hall — that looked like family church on Sunday, evidence of good breeding and sibling regard.”

We were watching the Convention on the only channel that was broadcasting it in the old rooftop antennae World we live in out here in the sticks. PBS McNeil News on KCET was the only one broadcasting it.

The camera panned back to Piper licking her hand and smoothing Trig’s hair multiple times. My wife and myself fell instantly in love with that little girl.

Her Mom gained our respect and our comfort as to her nomination as VP with McCain by her presentation. We both finally feel good about voting this coming November. We were going to vote for McCain regardless, but now we just feel better about it all.

We can’t see Obama winning this one. It has to be McCain and Palin, and it will be.

These are the same folks that “Oh” and “Oooh” and “Ah” and giggle when two men french kiss in a church full of perverts attending their wedding ceremony, yet they find this disgusting!

It’s good to know where these folks stand. It reminds me I need to stand as far away as possible... morons.

This story is perfect proof of how out of touch the media is with the heart of America. Only a complete asshole, published in the New Your Slimes could say something like that and believe that anyone outside of his little circle of media elites would agree with him.

I hear sales of newsprint are in the toilet in this country, and that the only thing keeping the whole industry from tanking is exports.

Wonder why...???

I think it was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. It was totally genuine and loving and natural.

Maybe the journalists who don’t like this have never experienced real love in their lives. I feel sorry for them.

I think Piper is personally responsible for bringing thousands of votes to the R column due to her actions that night. Let the journalists complain. It will call attention to it - a good thing. The more people who see this, the more will be charmed by her.

How weird.

We see the cultural difference in our country by a simple act by a sweet little girl taking care of her brother.

They know not what the miss if they cannot see what we see in that child’s action.

This was the same thing with Bush. They could never see what we saw in W.

Anyone who had a problem with that sweet, spontaneous and loving act is a very sick ticket, who should not be allowed near children.

Keating Five.
Amnesty.
McCain-Feingold.

We all know a LOT about McCain’s decisions.

We can only hope that Palin can rein in the maverick.

Tell you what, you can beat me to the voting booth on Election Day by four seconds.

But you’re going to have to be pretty fast - lol.

“The MSM lives in a different house.”

I’m convinced they didn’t have mothers. Read what Glenn Beck said about it.

http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/14771/

Glenn Beck: Slammin Sarah

[snip]First of all, when her daughter was sitting there holding Trig and she licked her hand to put Trig’s hair down, a rush came to me. These people are like my family. When she licked her hand and did that, you know what it made me think of? Where did she learn that? Mom. And suddenly I saw mom licking, you know, licking her fingers and then doing that to my head. My mother used to do that. When I was a kid, we would be out some place and she would say, why didn’t you comb your hair. And then she would lick her hand and she would try to make the little cowlicks stay down on my did anybody else’s mom do that? So all of a sudden Sarah Palin, I saw her with her children just as I could see my mother with her children, except my mom wasn’t nearly as smoking hot as Sarah Palin. I’m just sayin’.

Interesting how no one from the press mentions that Piper (a 7 year-old) has the maturity to handle an infant in a crowd of thousands of convention attendees in front from 37+ million TV viewers. It also shows how the Palins teach their children responsibility and respect.

That sweet little girl is just a child and she loves her baby brother.

That anyone anywhere could find something objectionable about this shows only the depths of their decadence and depravity.

The MSM is on full display, and America has gotten an eyeful.

Absolutely. Something that’s lost on the rabid press but is obvious to the average observer out in the rest of the country.

I think Piper sealed her mom’s fate as POTUS one day with that one gesture. It was just so adorable at first when she was smoothing his hair, but that big long lick of her hand had me cracking up.

"Anyway, all she is talking about the last week is Palin. All of her friends at work are talking about Palin. She never talks about politics, even though she has to listen to me. "

LOL! I was at Costco Saturday, and a Korean-American lady was doing the sample thing with smoked Alaskan salmon. As usual, I indulged.

She said in heavily accented English "it's from Alaska...you know, like da Palin....you like da Palin?"

I assured her I was on board.

"Oh da Palin, Sarah, she gonna win...she gonna win big!"
