Obama "Old Man" Ad Attacks McCain's War Disabilities
NRO - The Corner ^ | 12 September 2008 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 09/12/2008 4:01:22 PM PDT by PhatHead

The Obama campaign is mocking John McCain for not using a computer. From the AP story about the computer illiterate ad:

"Our economy wouldn't survive without the Internet, and cyber-security continues to represent one our most serious national security threats," [Obama spokesman Dan] Pfeiffer said. "It's extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn't know how to send an e-mail."
Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by "extraordinary." The reason he doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):
McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.
In a similar vein I guess it's an outrage that the blind governor of New York David Patterson doesn't know how to drive a car. After all, transportation issues are pretty important. How dare he serve as governor while being ignorant of what it's like to navigate New York's highways.

"Hillary! has completely infiltrated their camp and is sabotaging them from within."

Winner winner (Barry is) chicken dinner! Axelrot is a speechwriter, nothing more. Completely out of his element running the late stages of a (losing) presidential campaign.

Um. If you read the whole thing, McCain DOES use a computer with minimal help.

"Typing is very unnatural so if you have any chronic shoulder, arm, wrist or finger problems, you can experience pain almost immediately at a computer."

Hear, hear.

Bill: Here's what you do. Attack McCain about being too feeble to use a computer.

Obambi: Uh huh, you sure this is a winning strategy?

Bill: Yeah, trust me.

Bill: *yeah it will bury you, but you gotta know who the Big Dog is son.*

‘Well, while Barack in his youth was doing lines and thinking about how unfair his ivy league education was, John McCain in his youth was beaten by the Cong so severely that to this day he can’t raise his arms to use the internets’.

I would say:

"While Barack was shifiting yellow in his diapers and building sand castles in the beaches of Hawaii, McCain was serving this great Nation and getting the living s*hit beaten out of his bones on a daily basis by the North Vietnamese".

"(John) Kerry said he writes in long hand, then cuts and pastes pieces of the speech to reorganize his thoughts. He uses old-fashioned scissors and glue, not the computer keystrokes modern writers are accustomed to." -- No computer for Kerry as he writes speech, USA Today

"Mr. Kerry will reclaim the nation's attention when he accepts his party's nomination for president. He has spent weeks drafting and rewriting his speech in a longhand few aides can decipher..." -- David M. Halbfinger, New York Times

"John was always writing things out on legal pads and practicing them," Bundy told me..."Since I've known him, he's always been good at speaking—and he has always worked at being good. He would write out the speech, and we'd listen to it, and he would change it and practice it some more." -- James Fallows, The Atlantic

” Yes. McCain made a mistake by responding to the lipstick slap. This can get extraordinary exposure while he stays above the fray. This is a fat, hanging curveball that Obama just left over the plate.”

Don’t know if this is true but picked up on another site that you could hear some in the crowd chant Sarah in the background during the lipstick incident.

If true I could see why McCain responded. Otherwise I think Barry is provinding lots of self inflicted pain, and the very focused ads are making their mark.

Ted was the best natural hitter the game ever saw. Even though I am not a big baseball fan, Ted Williams was a huge favorite of mine ever since I became aware of how, after hitting a Home Run he would give the finger to the press as he rounded 3rd.

Even back then he knew they sucked.

It does surprise me though, that McCain doesn't know how to send an email

He is quite email savvy, another article describe how he and his wife get together daily to handle their email load. He dictates and she types for him. McCain is breaking records with his Internet savvy in this campaign and is setting the standard in many new areas. Obama however has been showing his incompetence with technology with his text message as an example.

” Game Over you Techie illiterate “

Bill : One more thing. See the Thinker over there. That’s what you do, you look like you are deep in thought while you are actually taking a Giant Dump on them.

Worked for me for 2 terms.

Barry: Thanks Bill that’s great advice......

RUSH:...the same day that Obama makes the "lipstick on a pig" joke and his crowd is out there chanting, "No more pit bull!" So it is very obvious that his crowd knew. They laughed and they applauded his joke. They did not think it was just the standard used political cliche, that is overused by politicians of all stripes. However, his audience -- and this is his problem on this -- his audience laughed. They loved it, and they started shouting, "No more pit bull." So, we're watching a meltdown here I think of seismic proportions.

I see a great ad in the making. McCain unable to type due to torture, Biden telling a parapalegic to stand up, all those news harpies attacking Sarah’s special baby, late night talk show hosts making fun of McCain’s age, multimillionaires Obama and Biden giving less than $2000 to charity COMBINED... I see a common theme here.

I’m just saying there is technology out there where almost anyone with even severe arm & hand limitations can use a computer themselves or with minimal help

It is called a secretary. Something that comes with the office for free.

Thanks. Good to know this was picked up.

My take on it was that the crowd knew it was her, and he delivered the line for effect.
