Minnesota Poll: Obama, McCain are dead even in state

Minnesota has become a battleground in a presidential campaign that has dramatically tightened nationwide.
A new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll shows that the race is now a dead heat between Barack Obama and John McCain, each supported by 45 percent of likely voters in the state.
The new poll likely will stoke both sides' efforts during the final 51 days until the election, triggering a barrage of advertising, grass-roots politicking and, potentially, stepped-up visits by the candidates.
The poll found that McCain has made gains across the board since a May Minnesota Poll that showed him trailing by 13 points. He has picked up considerable support among men and to a lesser degree among women. He also has boosted his standing with whites, young voters and all levels of household income and education.

I shrugged off a poll showing McCain ahead in MI, and I dismissed a couple showing him close or ahead in PA. But when you start to see EVERY poll putting him even in the blue states, then you have to think something is up.
I'll breathe a little easier when I see two consecutive CO polls showing McCain ahead.
Actually, Gallup tinkered with its final 2004 number. They assigned all undecided to Kerry rather than split it evenly (which would have resulted in them nailing the result).
True. I’m skeptical, but of all Republicans, McCain is probably best poised to shift MN. Duncan Hunter would be down here by 50 points.

Minnesotans can blow with the wind. Moderately Blue, give them a motivation and they’ll (I live here for 47 years...) go with it.
Sarah is that motivation and in talking with A LOT of people here, Sarah (and John...) will get most of their swing vote.
True, hillary may get in out of desperation.......
BUT - hillary does not resonate well with Minnesotans.

Another case of Hillaryphobia.
The interesting part of the McCain / Palin dynamic is that she's actually providing him a mix of benefits, while freeing him up to be himself.
She brings firepower, attracts all incoming fire without taking a scratch, and actually continues to pull in voters from right and center without paradox. Right wingers and centerists are comfortable with her. Left wingers and the media can't seem to lay a hand on her, despite the full court press. And she's dropped some stunning jabs with a smile.
But crafty McCain is keeping his eye on the ball. He's remaining centered, reasonable, and, gosh, Presidential. Rising above the fray like it's not even there. He's free to seek out the center in places like Minnesota or other blue strongholds. Why not? All pretenses aside, he's not McBush, and few people really believe he is. So if he keeps his hands clean and sounds like a level headed, reasonable guy, moderates will be very comfortable with him.
It's like watching the pleasent old tortise ambling to the finish line, while the two hares wear each other out, and the other tortise wanders off in the wrong direction, lecturing and gaffe-ing his way into the sunset.
A Palin appearance and rally at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth could break the 8th District wide open where the DFL normally polls 70%. The people there are much more attuned to hockey and steel workers and the military than they are to slick city neighborhood organizers. MN is definitely in play, and the Dims are in deep trouble here.

Colorado has one of the highest densities of illegals from Mexico. I can see the libs out there buying truckloads of Corona and passing it out to the illegals to make attenmpts at voting.
Certainly President Kerry appreciated their winning call in 2004...

Exactly Diogenes. We need to make a strong effort against union thug voter fraud if we see the need to in mid-October, depending on how far ahead McCain is in some of these states and if he needs them. Most democrats have only ever won elections because of voter fraud, going back to Kennedy. Maybe you would want to cut off a finger after they vote in these states...;)
