McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime

McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime [Andy McCarthy]

The McCain Campaign has issued a statement responding to the report from Amer Taheri (see today's web briefing) that Sen. Obama secretly negotiated with the Iraqi government regarding U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. McCain spokesman Randy Scheunemann stated as follows:

At this point, it is not yet clear what official American negotiations Senator Obama tried to undermine with Iraqi leaders, but the possibility of such actions is unprecedented. It should be concerning to all that he reportedly urged that the democratically-elected Iraqi government listen to him rather than the US administration in power. If news reports are accurate, this is an egregious act of political interference by a presidential candidate seeking political advantage overseas. Senator Obama needs to reveal what he said to Iraq's Foreign Minister during their closed door meeting. The charge that he sought to delay the withdrawal of Americans from Iraq raises serious questions about Senator Obama's judgment and it demands an explanation.

The one thing that has impressed me about McCain is that he immediately addresses his critics and the opposition in situations that need to be addressed. Something where the current administration has been lapsed. There is a way to address them effectively, and McCain seems to have that ability.

The wording of this statement was well done also. It is not an agreement to the accusation, but a request for O to respond to the accuser. McCain’s spokesman states that “if” true, action must be taken. Good CYB on McCain’s end.

“How could the DNC put forth another candidate when it is too late to get on most state ballots?”

State committees will scramble to get the correct name on the ballot, law or no law, filing deadline or not. Don’t worry, everyone knows there must be a (D) on the ballot, it’s in the Constitution right after the part about primaries and conventions.

Actually, by federal law, nobody but the EC need vote. The rest is made up by the states.

If the White House or the State Department is forced to comment on this, the fur will really start flying.

We need to FREEP everyone in Washington and all the media and demand an investigation - The ambassador needs to be depositioned NOW...before he's gotten to by the machine and "convinced" to be quiet

ANYThing on the news tonight?

This has probably already been mentioned, but isn’t this actually above his pay-grade?

Let’s hope this starts getting more attention in the MSM. The word needs to go out.

Wow!, Just Wow! I’ve read so much about obammy - and nothing seemed to stick. But this? This is as bad as it gets. That this arrogant power-mad fiend would try to both undermine our Government and unnecessarily endanger troops for his own self aggrandizement is so beyond the pale that it defies description. Moreover, it would seem that his only retorts are that either the Iraqi Foreign Minister is lying, or the New York Post is lying. I’m betting that he and his minions simply blame everyone else... It will backfire... I predict that we will see a landslide election of McCain-Palin that will be unprecedented.

“How could the DNC put forth another candidate when it is too late to get on most state ballots? Very intriguing.”

It would be a huge mess. Not to mention probably so damaging to the entire DNP that regardless of who replaced him only left wing-nuts would vote for them this year.

Of course that is only if anything comes of this.

//If obambi did this - and it’s totally within character//

Wholeheartedly agreed.

And I thought Obama was going to get another pass. Good going McCain.

"a no-win for the Obots in the media and it will be ignored."

History in this election cycle has been that the media totally ignores ANY negatives about the Messiah, and trumpets the smallest possible details about Sarah Palin (such as the latest "tanning bed in the Executive Mansion")

:)

re: McCain’s Rapid Response Team

fwiw, I posted the breaking news thread here at 5:03 am EST but I for one did not expect or want the McCain camp to respond too quickly — I may be wrong, but it hardly occurred to me to try to send it to them (though I also assumed that someone there would notice it rather early in the work day, so I didn’t worry about that angle)...... but I did not think the story could be advanced initially by the McCain camp jumping on it, or at least that would not have been useful until it had already gotten some circulation on the web and pickup in at least some major media...... it’s a delicate issue with limited information (so far) and it was better to let it get some more info and competing perspectives before anyone from the McCain campaign tried to jump into the fray.

Best to let it develop with input from bloggers and whatever MSM journalists are actually honest enough to address it. The McCain statement seems like just the right line for them to take right now, but I don’t see any added benefit for them to have made the statement early in the day.

On another issue, where all the facts are already clear and it’s possible to really hammer hard, I agree that rapid response within a couple of hours is key. But I’m not sure it would have helped in this case, and it might simply have looked (or been portrayed) as though the McCain camp was flogging the story, when they had nothing to do with it.

It should be equal to 20 years in the Pen, but Obama will get a pass from the MSM. They will spike the story if they can.

Not quite. He’s trying to play checkers while the real game is chess. And he’s up against grand masters.

Not quite, Obama is playing ping pong while the real game is life.
