McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime

McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime [Andy McCarthy]

The McCain Campaign has issued a statement responding to the report from Amer Taheri (see today's web briefing) that Sen. Obama secretly negotiated with the Iraqi government regarding U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. McCain spokesman Randy Scheunemann stated as follows:

At this point, it is not yet clear what official American negotiations Senator Obama tried to undermine with Iraqi leaders, but the possibility of such actions is unprecedented. It should be concerning to all that he reportedly urged that the democratically-elected Iraqi government listen to him rather than the US administration in power. If news reports are accurate, this is an egregious act of political interference by a presidential candidate seeking political advantage overseas. Senator Obama needs to reveal what he said to Iraq's Foreign Minister during their closed door meeting. The charge that he sought to delay the withdrawal of Americans from Iraq raises serious questions about Senator Obama's judgment and it demands an explanation.

Guys - Color me skeptical that Obama actually did this. This is something that is beyond the imagination. It cannot be. This will turn out to be THE story of the decade and IF TRUE will surely lead to the immediate suspension of the Obama / Biden campaign.

I don't think you've been on FR very long, else you'd know that this kind of stuff Democrats do all the time, and get a free pass from the press, and everybody else.

Sandy " classified documents in my socks" Burger ring any bells ?

I hope that McCain’s Rapid Response Team can learn to respond faster than they did here.

McCain may or may not have known that this was coming, but it would be best for him to avoid giving any indications in either case. If he drives the story in any fashion, many people will see him as the sleaze monger. On the other hand, if the story is sufficiently widely reported, decorum practically demands that John McCain can ask his opponent a chance to explain things. John McCain will come off looking like a rose whether the accusations are true or not; had he jumped into the fray earlier, he's look like a skunk--again whether the allegations are true or not.

As much as I would like to see Obama nailed to the wall on this I think the reaction will be JACK SQUAT.

"isn’t this actually above his pay-grade?"

Just about everything is above Obamessiah's pay grade except giving campaign speeches, voting "present" 100+ times, and campaigning for his next office before he's even acquainted himself with his duties in his current office.

In my opinion, the Republicans should not pursue the investigation/legal route. Rather, they should aggressively use it against Obama every time he tries to voice his position that troops should be withdrawn, including in debates. “Senator Obama says he wants the troops withdrawn, but what he really wants is that the troops unnecessarily remain in Iraq until after the election in order to increase his odds of winning.”

“They were calculated at the time they responded.

If they had responded this morning it would have gotten no coverage at all today. Too much time given to the economic crisis. Even Rush only gave it a minute’s worth.

By responding now.. it will make it into tomorrow’s news cycle.”

Good point.

There had better be evidence before we start making charges.

Pop The Corn... Pop the Corn... Call for a Congressional investigation into this NOW.... Call GOP Congressmen now... and if Obama’s Wacked out base stands behind him when HE OBAMA wanted to leave the TROOPS in Iraq well that is just plain IGNORANT.

LOL its funny if anyone actually believed that the Left really cared about the well being of our bravest. They have been playing politics with IRAQ since 03...

This needs out front now... ..

Barry O will spin and nuance and the MSM will ignore. Unless there is more hard evidence to come out, this won’t go far

Palin nailed his treachery: “[Obama] is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word ‘victory’ except when he’s talking about his own campaign.”
