Sarah Palin’s Yahoo account hijacked, e-mails posted online

Mod note: Do no post any screenshots of Governor Palin's Yahoo account on Free Republic.
Thank you.

On the heels of media reports that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was using a private Yahoo e-mail account (gov.palin@yahoo.com) to conduct Alaska state business, hackers have broken into the account and posted evidence of the hijack on Wikileaks.

An activist group calling itself ‘anonymous’ claimed responsibility for the compromise and released screenshots, photographs and the e-mail addresses of several people close to Palin, including her husband Todd and assistant Ivy Frye.

If this really was her e-mail account that was hacked, you can easily reverse trace this back to the IP address of the hacker.
It's a lot harder than you think.
Do a web search on "Tor anonymous proxy"

You don't even have to use Tor, there are plenty of services out there that will set you up with an anonymous account and you can send emails through multiple proxies that will NEVER be traced back.

Check out one of the finest privacy oriented web services there is, which is:

Steve Gielda (founder of Cotse) is one of the sharpest security guys in the business. Doesn't toot his own horn, but he knows his stuff. He's one of the good guys.

Heh now THAT would be a “magnificent bastard” move, but according to notes the account profile was last updated in April 08 well before Palin was even in the running for VP pick.

Some proxy servers don’t forward the originating IP in the user agent info, or keep log files. How do you trace those?

I hope her password wasn’t “lipstick”, or something else easy to guess.

I’m sure that some smart Microsoft liberal slimeball probably helped do it.

Some crimes call for Vlad's type of cruel and unusual punishment:

The question BB was posing to GSC was that one can’t jump to the conclusion that she posted government information relevant to her job over the Yahoo e-mail.

I don’t see that happening; I’d see that yahoo e-mail being used for personal messages to friends and family, however.

As for confirmation of this report, here’s some peripheral information:

Hannity warned his listeners that anyone who shares her private email info is committing a felony. I suspect that people in the Palin camp had privately confirmed that she was indeed had — just speculation. But Levin also reported it. That’s what he kicked the show off with.

Yahoo needs to:

a) apologize to McCain/Palin.

b) explain that Palins email account was hacked by an employee

c) fire the employees involved.

And (d), turn that employee in to the FBI. Hacking of this type is a federal crime. It is almost certainly a state crime as well in whatever state the hacker resides.

If you're doing official government business then it does.

Has there been any evidence that any government information was transferred over Yahoo? I haven't seen any thus far.

I don’t have time to read through all the responses, but this is a pretty ridiculous matter. Leaving aside the hacking itself, there is not a shred of evidence that Palin used this account for government business. There are a grand total of three emails from government employees, all of which are personal in nature. There is no government business being transacted, nothing at all.

These attacks on Palin are, without question, the most serious evidence yet of the total collapse of the liberal establishment. I consider myself something of an historian and I cannot think of a single candidate for high office in the history of the United States who has been subject to so many unwarranted, vicious, abominable attacks as Governor Palin. We’ve had presidents and vice presidents, and candidates to both offices who had plenty of baggage, known and unknown, and not a single one—no, not all of them put together have ever had to suffer anything like this in the whole of American history.

“Dressed like that? She was asking to be raped, I tell ya.”

She is in the biggest of big-league politics now, and the scrutiny she has to expect is neither reasonable nor fair, but that is reality.

Stories like this one are exactly why I’m considering REALLY crossing over from the dark side and changing my voter registration to Republican. Those lunatics are besmirching the character of all the old south conservative democrats like myself and my family.

I like using them, because I enjoy the convenience of remote login

I work for a state legislature. I am able to get my state emails from a special web client, but they also come in on my blackberry so I don't use it much.
