David Brooks is taking some heat from doctrine-enforcement agents of the left and right for stating, in an interview with me at that famed redoubt of populism Le Cirque that Sarah Palin represents a "fatal cancer" for the Republican Party...

Anything here,

by repeatedly changing freeper names it keeps us from knowing who you are and where you are coming from, now here you are a nooby again, coming out against the most exciting conservative since Reagan.

If massive rapid unstoppable cancer like cell/voter production is what they are talking about, then yes Sarah is a Cancer but fatal to the baby killing, terrorist loving Whosinsane obambibots, not Patriotic Americans.

Yeah, you’re so much smarter than I am, and you have the posting history to prove it. Oh wait, you’ve been here since Thursday. Next.

Yes it could lead to the same results as the Cult of Reagan.

As if. I don't know what you people see in her that reminds you of Reagan, but I don't see it.

“Who is ‘teethodore’? How is it you don’t know who David Brooks is, or more importantly, how is it you would think to question a long time, quality Freeper like ‘neverdem’??

Oh wait! You signed up 3 days ago? Are you a troll, he asked suspiciously??”

Yeah, I signed up, is it only three days ago? Seems a lot longer. So I don’t know who neverdem is yet. I think I’ve been accused of being a troll 3 times already. Not sure if that’s actually a compliment. I don’t read the New York Times. Who David Brooks is is one of the few things I didn’t know. I do know some odd things you might find interesting, like John Hanson was the first President of the United States.

Teethodore is an old nickname for Theodore Roosevelt, one of the most popular presidents of any party, and a Republican who knew competitive markets were better than markets “freely” run by monopolies. I think some modern Republicans get confused about that. And Libertarian/Anarchists are all too happy to exploit that confusion.

I think about this every time I pass a gas station. Their prices are all within a few pennies of each other. And why shouldn’t they be? Around here, all the gasoline, every drop, comes from the same refinery. The stations might have different names on them, but they aren’t really competing.

Maybe I am on the wrong website. I went looking for an unofficial Republican site. The official ones all seem too . . . scrubbed and shiny. You know what I mean? This one seems a lot more lively. But some people seem a little hostile, like maybe I’m hurting some Anarchists’ feelings.

GOOD!

That’s a fair question. I know I’m going to catch all kinds of hellfire for this, but to be honest, she’s just too damned redneck for me. Granted, it’s a cold snowy, hey we got igloos kind of redneck, but a redneck none the less. Sorry, but I’ll take a candidate who can pronounce the g’s on the end of words any day.

The best thing I can say about Palin is that she’s a Republican. So, if she somehow gets the nod in ‘12, I’ll vote for her, but she won’t be my pick in any primary.

No problem. Although I’d be curious as to what you don’t get about McCain. The man is an open book with a tremendous voting history. Everyone should get McCain.

True, but I'm not trying to rest on some past reputation (or I'd go ahead and use my actual name). I think what I claimed should be evident to most people who critically consider what they observe.

I'd also take issue with "most exciting conservative since Reagan"; I think Newt Gingrich is still far ahead of Palin on that--probably even among the Freeper crowd and certain among conservatves as a whole. It may change if she gets elected, but she has a ways to go.

I’m hardly some unknown with a 2001 sign up. I probably have a couple of thousand posts you can look up. So, I’m going to attribute you calling me a plant to the recent phenomenon where “troll” is tossed out every other post.

However, I am also "voting for McCain here in a few weeks."

Good. Then let's celebrate our agreement rather than dwelling on our disagreement.

Actually, I wish Palin was running for President and McCain as VP.

I'm just glad your wishes don't come true.

Sadly, this is the most accurate assessment of the Palin pick that I’ve read thus far. The euphoria over Palin is IMHO misspent and premature. I have little hope for November at this point.”

You have been against Palin from the first day and have been attacking her since, who was your choice?

“I’m sick of the cult of Palin. I just don’t get the attraction.”

Well, Melas, 80% of Alaskans get it. When Americans see Palin, they get it! She is what we are. What are you?

Well, we don’t know why you are concealing that reputation by using new sign up names, or even if you keep getting booted.

Gingrich had every opportunity that a man can have to make an effective run for the White House but he could not connect.

Governor Palin connects and is the bright spot in this ticket.

The Republican party has done little to show it's capable of effectively running the country over the past eight years...

I would argue that the administration in power over the past eight years did a better job running the country than did its predecessor.

IMHO, he had a long list of better qualified candidates. If he had to have a governor Perry is available, and there is no comparing Alaska to Texas, save for polar bears.

To beat the ignorant to the punch, Alaska has the 45th largest economy out of the 50 states. Economically, only Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, North Dakota are smaller. There are a great many cities in the U.S.A. with larger economies to deal with than the state of Alaska.

When it comes to population, Alaska is ranked 39th, only slightly larger than tiny Vermont. Again, as governors go, there are mayors in the U.S. with several times the population to deal with. I’m sorry, but the only thing good thing I can say about Palin’s experience is that she’s more qualified than a community organizer.

Her are some Governor Palin numbers from early September.

“Her job approval rating is astoundingly high with an 86% overall approval rating and 63% strongly approving of her job performance. Independents approve by a margin of 86% - 10% and there is absolutely no gender gap. 97% of Republicans approve of the job she is doing as do 75% of Democrats. She receives high job approval ratings across all regions of Alaska.”

Did you ever think maybe you’re the stupid one, and it’s smart people you’re offending?

Well, you're the one hailing a woman with a B.A. in Communcations from Idaho U. as the savior of the Republican Party. Let's step back and think about this rationally...nah, never mind, it's too late.

Gingrich didn't really have the personality to run for President, but he gave the party a strong and compelling intellectual/ideological platform to run on (nevermind that the party largely abandoned it as it got comfortable in Washington and subsequently lost the power it had gained running on that platform).

Palin has her folksy charm, but I haven't seen her do a great job articulating conservative ideas in a way that appeals to a broad range of the population.
